Chapter 6: The Mystery of Her

The Ruthless King's Claim [Completed]

(Note: This chapter will be short)

Reyaansh's POV

I sat in the plush leather chair of my office, staring out at the skyline of Kolkata. My fingers absently traced the edges of the silver anklet that now sat on my desk—Kiara’s anklet. I had retrieved it for a reason, a reason I couldn’t quite explain even to myself. She had no idea how it had found its way back to her, but I wasn’t about to tell her that.

It had been five days since I first saw her in Rajasthan, and my thoughts hadn’t strayed far from her since then. Kiara… Kia, as her family called her, was a mystery I couldn’t seem to shake. She was different from the women I usually encountered—more innocent, more vulnerable, yet there was an undeniable strength in her that intrigued me. She had a fire that I had only glimpsed but could see growing.

I had never been the type to get attached easily. The world I lived in, the world I controlled, was one of power, manipulation, and distance. My relationships, if they could even be called that, were transactional. But with Kia, it was different. There was something about her that pulled at me in ways I couldn’t explain, a quiet challenge that stirred something deep inside.

I thought about the moment when I had returned the anklet to her, the way she had looked at me, her soft voice and confused expression. I’d seen the hesitation in her eyes, and I couldn’t help but want to draw her out of her shell. There was something about her that made me want to protect her, yet at the same time, I wanted to test her—to see if she could stand her ground against me.

I leaned back in my chair, the wheels of my mind turning. I couldn’t just let her slip away. There was unfinished business between us, something that demanded attention. And I wasn’t going to let that go.

---

The thought of her lingered in my mind as I called for my assistant. "Saanvi, bring me the reports for the new project," I said, my voice even, though my mind was far from the numbers and charts in front of me.

"Right away, sir," she replied, her footsteps disappearing into the hallway.

I thought about the nickname I had given her—the one I hadn’t shared with anyone. Kia. She was Kia to her family, but to me, I wanted something different. Something that would be just mine. Something that would mark her as mine.

"Sweetheart," I murmured to myself, testing the sound of the word on my lips. It was simple, yet it felt right. I couldn’t quite explain why, but it was the perfect word to encapsulate the mix of care and possession I felt toward her. I had no intentions of pushing her away. Instead, I would draw her in, slowly, carefully. She wasn’t someone I could let go of so easily, not now.

---

The thought of seeing her again was both thrilling and maddening. I was used to being in control of everything, yet with her, it felt like I was losing that control, little by little. It was an unfamiliar sensation, but one I was more than willing to explore. I had a feeling this was just the beginning.

Her beauty, her innocence—it wasn’t the physical attraction that kept me coming back to her. It was the way she made me feel, the way her presence seemed to fill the empty spaces in my life. I wanted to see how far I could push her, how much she would let me in. I wanted to know everything about her—her fears, her dreams, her secrets.

I let out a breath, running my fingers through my hair. "Sweetheart," I whispered again, the word settling comfortably in my chest. Yes, that was what she was to me—my sweetheart. And she didn’t even know it yet. But she would. In time. I would make sure of it.

---

The sound of my office door opening interrupted my thoughts, and I immediately snapped back to reality. Saanvi entered, a stack of papers in her hands. She placed them on the desk in front of me, but I could barely focus on the words in front of me. All I could think about was the next time I would see Kiara, and the way I would make her realize she had already become an essential part of my world.

It would be sooner than she thought.
