Chapter 191
Meet My Brothers
Mia couldnât help but chuckle at Sharonâs surprised expression.
Truth be told, Timothy had only used that claim to brush off Miaâs adoptive parents, who had showed up
looking for cash.
Mia didnât expect him to turn it into a retort against Sharon, without any hint of respect.
His gaze was shifted to Mia the next second, causing a hitch in her breath.
She thought it was weird of him to look at her since she wasnât the one who said that.
Timothy questioned her coldly, âWhy did you transfer 100 thousand dollars to me?â
Mia was taken aback by his question. âI was repaying your mother. Since I didnât have her contact, I
transferred it to you. Please help me transfer it to your mother.â
He glanced at Sharon. âWhat happened?â
âTim, Miaâs adoptive parents came seeking money. I gave them 100 thousand dollars to get rid of them.
Itâs
not that much anyways,â Sharon answered nonchalantly.
His brows furrowed. âYou shouldnât have done that.â
He knew that Miaâs adoptive parents were opportunistic. To put it bluntly, they were âhuman leechesâ. If
they
succeeded once, they would keep coming back for more.
âTim, I know you think itâs not worth it. Just consider it a good riddance,â Sharon tried to convince him.
He pursed his lips, not uttering a word. He didnât say it wasnât worth the purpose, it was just a mistake
to give them money in the first place!
Mia sneered, âIf thereâs nothing else, I should get going. If they come again, donât let them in.â
She left without looking back.
It was dark outside. Public transport wasnât available in the neighborhood, and hailing a cab was
impossible.
Soon, a luxury car pulled up beside her. The driver rolled down the window. âIâll drive you home, Mrs.
Barrett.â
âThereâs no need for that,â She hesitated before answering.
The driver insisted, âYou wonât find a cab here, Mrs. Barrett. Let me take you home. I have to bring Mr.
Barrett
something anyway.â
Mia walked for a while before realizing that getting a cab was futile. In the end, she reluctantly got into
the car.
Between safety and pride, safety prevailed.
An awkward atmosphere hung in the air as she glanced at the driver. âThanks.â
âYouâre welcome.â

He glimpsed at Mia from the rearview mirror. A sigh of relief escaped his lips.
If he had failed his mission to pick Mia up, he wouldnât know how to convey the news to his boss.
At a red light, he took out his phone to message Heath. âMrs. Barrettâs in the car.â
Upon receiving the message, Heath rushed upstairs only to stumble upon a heated argument between
Timothy and Sharon in his room.
Sharon couldnât understand Timothy. She protested, âTim, youâve divorced Mia. Why canât you clean up
the walkâin closet? It would be embarrassing if Maya moves in and sees this.â
Timothyâs patience was running thin. âMom, this is just a deal. A fake engagement. I wonât actually
marry her.â
âThatâs absurd, Tim. Whatâs wrong with Maya? Sheâs got the looks and the background. Besides, her
obedience and maturity make her the ideal wife for you. She could elevate our family to new heights
too. Forget about the fake engagement, Tim. You two should make it real.â
Sharon couldnât understand him at all. If he could accept someone like Mia, why canât he accept
Maya?.
He rubbed his temple, clearly annoyed by his mumâs sentiments. âMom, Iâm not three, but 30. I have
my own life. Donât just barge into my room whenever. And donât judge how I live!â
Timothy was infuriated, and this ticked Sharon off. âYouâre my son! Why canât I check on you?â
âNow that youâve âchecked on meâ, you can leave now.â He escorted her out of the bedroom and
slammed the door, standing firm against her demands.
Despite the anger, she felt powerless against Timothy. âThe engagement is this weekend. Behave
yourself. Mayaâs family is no ordinary bunch. Donât get on their bad side.â
