Chapter 268
Meet My Brothers
Miaâs words struck a nerve, hitting Mayaâs sore spot directly.
Frustrated, Maya raised her hand. âMia, who do you think you are, labeling me as a mistress? Just
so you know, my brother is also in this hospital. I assure you, youâll regret making such
accusations!
âIâve come across countless illâmannered individuals like yourself. Itâs ironic how you and Aunt Patricia
share the same despicable traits.â
Without hesitation, Mia firmly grasped Mayaâs hand and swiftly delivered a resounding slap in
return.
Miaâs gaze turned icy as she retorted, âMaya, you can say whatever you want about me, but mind your
words. If I catch you insulting Aunt Patricia again, I swear youâll regret it.â
Despite Patricia having a timid personality and her share of flaws, she was the one who raised Mia,
and Mia wouldnât tolerate anyone speaking ill of her.
Maya stared at Mia in disbelief. âHow dare you hit me?â
âIâll strike you whenever I please.â
Miaâs attitude took a fierce turn. She effortlessly reached for a fruit knife nearby, cautioning. âMy temper
isnât great right now, so you better not provoke me.â
âMia, what do you think youâre doing? Iâm the young lady of the Lane family! If you lay a finger on me,
you wonât leave unscathed,â Maya warned.
Raising an eyebrow, Mia retorted, âSo what? There are no surveillance cameras in this room. Besides,
I am still legally Mrs. Barrett. This is Bern City, not Nord City. What can you do to me here?â
Maya was infuriated, trembling with anger. âMia, youâre insane, completely insane! Let me tell you, my
brotherâs company is handling the redevelopment in your old neighborhood.
âWhether you believe it or not, with just one call from me, your familyâs property will be as good as
gone.â
Mia remained composed, saying, âOh, if it canât be redeveloped, then so be it. Itâs no big deal. After all,
Iâm not lacking money at the moment.â
Maya was taken aback by Miaâs composed demeanor, displaying none of the reactions she had
anticipated.
Wasnât Mia, coming from a less affluent background, supposed to be desperate for the redevelopment
project?

Casually waving the fruit knife in her hand, Miaâs gaze remained indifferent. âRegardless, Iâm already in
a tough situation, so Iâm not afraid of facing more challenges.â
Frightened, Maya quickly fled the room, and soon, the hospital room returned to tranquility.
Mia couldnât help but chuckle; indeed, things began to align in her favor when she embraced a bit
of eccentricity.
Outside, Maya rushed to Connorâs office, her face visibly marked from the encounter. âConnor, Iâve
been bullied!â she declared.
Upon returning from his rounds, Connor observed the slap mark on Mayaâs face. âWho dared to hit
you?â he inquired with a frown.
Maya, who had always been resilient since childhood, now tearfully implored, âConnor, you have
to help me. That woman had the nerve to hit me. Itâs evident she holds no respect for our family!â
Maintaining his composure, Connor replied. âMaya, thereâs no need to resort to these excuses to
provoke me. It wonât make a difference.
âBack when we were kids, you exploited our familyâs influence for all sorts of bullying, and youâre
well aware of that. Why bring up grievances now that weâre adults?â
âConnor, this situation is different. The one who assaulted me is Timothyâs former wife! Given that
weâre in Bern City, how could I have possibly provoked her?â Maya clarified.
Upon hearing this revelation, Connor expressed his surprise. âTimothyâs exâwife hit you? Why?â
âShe accused me of being a mistress.â
âWell, technically, sheâs not entirely wrong. Iâve heard that Timothy hasnât finalized his divorce yet. And
here you are, already engaged to himâdoesnât that resemble the actions of a mistress?â
Maya hesitated for a moment before reluctantly admitting. âConnor, the engagement was called off
because of you!â
