Chapter 416
Meet My Brothers
âJason Lane.â Timothy said.
âAnother individual from the Lane family? You mentioned Miaâs close bond with Connor before, didnât
you? Is it possible that the Lanes harbor some hidden agenda against your family?â Caleb speculated.
Timothy took another sip of wine. âItâs not directed at my family, but rather at Mia herself.â
âIâm telling you. Tim, if youâve developed feelings for Mia, and considering you two havenât finalized the
divorce yet, itâll be quite easy for you to keep her around.
âAfter all Mia used to idolize you, sticking to you like a devoted wife. If you just show her a bit of
attention, wonât she just return to you?â Caleb expressed.
Upon hearing these words, Timothyâs mind quickly recalled what Mia had said before: âIf you replace
your boyfriend quickly enough, you wonât have time to feel sad.
âAs long as your new boyfriend is up to par, youâll be able to forget your ex.â
Timothy pressed his lips together. âSheâs not as easily persuaded now.â
Since Timothy proposed divorce. Mia seemed to have undergone a complete transformation, making it
challenging for Timothy to approach her.
Clicking his tongue. Caleb voiced out, âAre you seriously considering coaxing Mia? Why wonât you
admit that youâve developed feelings for her?â
After all it was obvious.
Timothy cleared his throat. âI just feel like whether we divorce or not doesnât matter much.
âSince Grandma Laura really likes her, and I donât have many expectations when it comes to marriage.
itâs really not a big dealâ Timothy said matterâofâfactly.
âYouâre just being stubborn, arenât you? If you genuinely feel that way, why did you initiate the divorce in
the first place?â Caleb asked.
Timothy fell silent for a moment. âAt the time, I thought that keeping Mia at the Barrett residence for
three years was too much for a young woman like her.
âStaying there would only waste her life. She could have easily started fresh elsewhere,â Timothy said.
Caleb countered immediately, âSo why are you stopping Mia from leaving?â
He couldnât understand why Timothy was still putting on an act.
Setting down the wine bottle he held, Timothy disclosed, âItâs because Mia is pregnant.â
Caleb couldnât help but spit out the wine in his mouth, staring incredulously at Timothy beside him. âIs
the baby yours?â
Timothyâs expression grew somber. âProbably not.â
âWhat do you mean by probably not? Hold on, based on what youâve said earlier, does this mean the
child is Connorâs?
âConsidering all of this, shouldnât you be expediting your divorce process? Do you really want to deal
with this mess?
Timothy replied nonchalantly, âI donât have any specific expectations regarding the child.
âPreviously, I lied about Mia being pregnant to deceive Grandma Laura into having surgery.
âNow that she is gradually recovering, the truth about the fake pregnancy is bound to come out. It just
so happens that Mia is genuinely pregnant this time.
âEven though the child might not be mine, I can overlook the paternity for the sake of Grandma Lauraâs
recovery.â
Caleb swallowed hard, staring at Timothy incredulously. âTimothy, are you out of your mind?â
Signing a clean break divorce agreement was one matter, but being open to raising another manâs child
was a whole different ball game.
It was clear that Timothy still cared for Mia.
If it werenât for his feelings for her, enduring such a situation would be challenging for any man.
Disregarding Calebâs question, Timothy casually checked his phone and saw a missed call from Mia,
which he chose not to return.
Squinting slightly, Timothy guessed that Miaâs call was probably regarding their divorce agreement from
earlier that afternoon.
Caleb leaned over and asked, âWhose call did you miss? Was it Mia?â
âYeah, I didnât answer.â
Looking at his phone, Timothyâs voice was deep as he asked hesitantly, âDo you think I should call her
back?â
