Chapter 496
Meet My Brothers
Timothy was frustrated. âGrandma, why must it be a marriage of love? Marriage is just troublesome to
me.â
âCongratulations then, youâll become single again today. Youâre free from the trouble,â Laura retorted.
He was rendered speechless. He just stood there, failing to find the words to continue the topic.
Laura spoke again. âYou should get going. The courthouse is going to close soon.â
With pursed lips, he finally exited the room.
Laura watched his back and sighed faintly. At the end of the day, she failed to make Mia stay.
Martha sneaked into the room. âMrs. Barrett Senior, why didnât you persuade Mrs. Barrett? She
respects you. As long as you disagree with the divorce, sheâll never divorce Mr. Barrett.â
âDo you think I donât know that? But I canât force them. Nothing good will come from forcing a couple to
be together.â
âBut I donât think heâs entirely indifferent toward her. They just need time.â
Laura smiled. âThatâs why I didnât go along as he wished. He needs a trigger. If he doesnât appreciate
her and doesnât win her back, sheâll leave him. Humans are born this way. Weâll never know how
precious
something is until we lose them.â
Martha gave it a thought, thinking that it made sense. âWhat if they really divorce?â
âThey can remarry then. Itâs not uncommon nowadays.â Laura looked on the bright side.
She contacted the lawyer to prepare a property settlement agreement as soon as possible.
There was a need to add fuel to the fire.
Meanwhile, Mia and Timothy left the hospital together.
Her eyes were fixated outside the window. Her emotions were surprisingly calm at the moment.
The one hour drive was quiet until the car stopped outside the courthouse.
Mia raised her head at the building. She felt like it was just yesterday she had arrived here.
Many things had transpired during the past month.
Timothy, standing beside her, spoke up, âMia, are you sure about this?â
Her eyes darted at him. He was goodâlooking no matter from which angle one looked at him. He
caught
many ladiesâ attention from the moment he got out of the car.
âWhy do you ask?â she calmly questioned back.
As soon as she asked that, her phone rang.
It was Connor. She turned to pick up the call. âHello?â
âMia, I got off work earlier today. I can pick you up from college.â
She quickly said, âYou donât have to. Iâm not at college.â
âYouâre not at college? Where are you?â
âIâm at the courthouse with Timothy. Weâre going to proceed with the divorce procedures.â
Connorâs mood brightened. âOkay. Iâll see you there.â
The call ended and she looked at Timothy. âLetâs go.â
Undecipherable feelings stirred in his heart. âWho was that? Connor?â (1
âYes, heâs going to pick me up later,â she answered truthfully.
When she met his eyes, she noticed that his expression was off. What was it that he wanted to say
before she answered the call?
