Chapter 553
Meet My Brothers
Gina nodded in response. âTaylor, youâre quite perceptive. That does sound like the most logical explanation.â
Ramona couldnât help but snort in disbelief. âBut thatâs absurd! Miaâs exâhusband is an older man. How could he possibly be so attractive?â
Jolene also joined in, âExactly! If Miaâs husband truly is that handsome, wealthy, and charming, why would she ever get a divorce? If it were me, Iâd hold onto him tightly no matter what.â
Gina couldnât help but chuckle at Ramona and Joleneâs skepticism. âIt seems like some people criticize what they canât have.
âBesides, Mia is now a wealthy heiress; she doesnât need to rely on a man. Yet, her exâhusband keeps clinging to her.â
Ramona remained defiant. âI refuse to believe it.â
âI couldnât care less about whether you believe it or not. Ramona, instead of meddling in othersâ affairs. perhaps you should focus on saving your familyâs failing company from bankruptcy.â
Ramonaâs expression turned haughty. âIâll find out who Miaâs sugar daddy is. Then weâll see how much longer she can maintain her arrogance.â
Gina remained silent. Goincidentally, Taylorâs car arrived just in time, and the two of them departed from the restaurant together.
Gradually, the rest of the group dispersed one by one.
Ramona turned to Jeremy with a hopeful look. âSince youâre still here, why donât you give me a ride?â
Jeremyâs expression darkened; moments ago, he had been searching for details about the CEO of the
Barrett Group.
Despite the scant information available, Jeremy managed to locate photos on the companyâs official website.
To his disbelief, the man who had just left was none other than the CEO of the Barrett GroupâTimothy Barrett!
Jeremy nearly dropped his phone in shock upon making the discovery.
It dawned on him that three years ago, Mia had married the CEO of the Barrett Group, not some elderly man as he had presumed!
Deliberately, Ramona approached Jeremy. âJeremy, whatâs the matter? You look awful. Are you feeling unwell?â
âJust leave me alone!â Jeremy snapped, pushing Ramona away in frustration.
Ramona nearly stumbled backward, her frustration evident as she retorted, âJeremy, whatâs gotten into you? Our relationship was fine until Mia showed up. Besides, your family wonât approve of a divorced woman like her.â
âRamona, do you know who Miaâs exâhusband is?â
âIsnât he just some wealthy old man?â Ramona replied disdainfully.
Jeremy pulled out his phone and showed Ramona the photo of Timothy. âTake a good look. The man your just saw is the president of the Barrett Group. Heâs Miaâs exâhusband!â
Ramonaâs complexion paled in shock. âHow is that possible? How could an orphan like Mia marry
someone from the Barrett family?â
Jeremy retrieved his phone, his demeanor turning serious, âMaybe itâs best if we donât keep in touch.
Letâs cancel the project we discussed earlier. After all, weâre not that familiar with each other.â
Undeterred by the heavy rain, Jeremy briskly made his way to the parking lot and drove off.
He couldnât afford to be entangled in Ramonaâs schemes. With Miaâs affiliation with the Barretts, offending them was simply out of the question.
Ramona stood frozen in disbelief, trying to make sense of it all. How could Miaâs exâhusband be the president of the Barrett Group?
Lost in her thoughts, Ramona stumbled and fell on the steps, wincing in pain.
Turning to Jolene for help, she urged, âWhy are you just standing there? Help me up and call a cab to drop me home!â
But Jolene remained unmoved, speaking condescendingly, âRamona, do you still see yourself as a wealthy young lady?
âYour familyâs company has gone bankrupt, and now youâve even offended the Barrett family. Do you think you still have a place here?â
