Upon hearing Timothyâs words. Mia looked at him with surprise. âWhy are you asking about that?â
Timothy turned to her, explaining. âYou once mentioned that I didnât understand you well enough. Iâm
trying to learn more about your past.â
Mia felt utterly bewildered. When had she ever made such comments?
Perhaps she had in the past, but that was prior to their divorce. Now that they were no longer married,
she couldnât be bothered about such things.
Jeremy chimed in. âYes, Mr. Barrett. Mia and I were classmates in high school, Mia was renowned for her exceptional academic performance, which earned her the favor of our teachers, who took special
care of her.â
Mia couldnât help but interject. âThatâs only because my family wasnât wellâoff. The teachers felt a sense
of responsibility toward me.â
âMia, you shouldnât say that. Donât take Ramonaâs comments at the reunion to heart. Sheâs just envious
and superficial
âBack in school she couldnât handle the fact that you were academically successful, beautiful, and favored by the teachers. Her jealousy led her to slander and undermine you during the reunion.â
Timothyâs demeanor turned cold. âWas Mia bullied at the reunion?â
Jeremy swiftly clarified, âMr. Barrett, we had a classmate named Ramona Tilbert who envied Mia. resulting in tension between them.
âFortunately, Mia now has the support of her family, and Ramona is facing the consequences. Her familyâs business is now struggling to meet payroll, and her father faces allegations of financial
misconduct.â
Mia was surprised by the rapid turn of events. It seemed that Claude hadnât updated her on this matter.
Timothyâs brow furrowed slightly once more. He was aware that Miaâs family had the situation under control, leaving no need for his intervention.
Nonetheless, this left Timothy feeling somewhat frustrated.
The meal surprisingly remained pleasant, largely thanks to Jeremyâs efforts to mediate.

As Mia dabbed her mouth with a napkin, Jeremy took out his phone and proposed, âMr. Barrett, Mia, it seems fate has brought us together. How about we take a selfie?â
Mia was taken aback. âA selfie?â
She didnât see the need for it.
Jeremy persisted. âMia, ever since the last reunion, everyone has been eagerly anticipating another get-
together, especially to see you.
âWhy donât we capture this moment? Itâll be a great way to make everyone envious of you and your
husband.â
âCorrection, heâs my exâhusband now.â After her remark, she noticed a subtle change in Timothyâs
expression, though she didnât believe her statement was out of line.
âMia, even though youâre divorced, weâre all still friends, right?â
Jeremy paused, observing Timothyâs reaction; he didnât seem offended. Taking a chance, he cautiously
inquired, âMr. Barrett, what do you think?â
Timothyâs lips slightly parted. âI donât mind.â
Sensing Jeremyâs gaze, Mia nodded and said, âSince heâs fine with it, I donât mind either.â
âGreat! Iâll stand in front, and on the count of three, weâll say cheese!â
Jeremy seized the moment, snapping a selfie of the trio. He positioned himself in front, with Mia and Timothy standing closely behind him.
Once the photo was captured, Mia turned to Jeremy and said, âJust be mindful that not everyone is comfortable with their privacy being exposed.â
âDonât worry, I wonât casually spread this photo around. Itâs just meant for our classmates.â
Upon hearing this. Timothy raised an eyebrow and added, âI understand youâre scouting projects at the university. If you require financial assistance in the future, you can reach out to my assistant, Heath, at
this number.â
