The entire Shen family were already seated at the dinner table when Shen Manting arrived.
A young woman was sitting next to Shen Zhilie. She appeared youthful and charming.
When she saw Shen Manting, her eyes lit up as she called out, âManting!â
Shen Manting was startled by her enthusiasm. She stopped in her tracks and muttered hesitatingly, âYouâre...â
âIâm Ye Qianqian! Remember me?â Ye Qianqian pointed to herself and then to Shen Zhilie, âIâm Shen Zhilieâs wife!â
She hugged Shen Manting excitedly. âYouâve finally woken up. This is great!â
Ye Qianqian patted Shen Manting on the back and reassured her in a voice choked with emotion, âEverything is going to be all right.â
All of sudden, Shen Manting didnât know how to react.
She chuckled and blurted, âIâm hungry, Qianqian.â
âOh. Of course!â Ye Qianqian immediately released her from her grasp and grinned at her. âLetâs have dinner!â
Ye Qianqian held Shen Mantingâs hand in hers and led her to the dining table.
Shen Manting looked around the table and greeted her elders politely. âFather, Mother, Grandma.â
All of them smiled when she addressed them.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Mrs. Shen said with a smile, âMake yourself at home.â
âYou should start eating more. Look at you, youâve become so thin!â Old Mrs. Shen felt concerned for her. She handed her a bowl and continued, âItâll take some time for you to recover and regain the bulk youâve lost.â
Shen Manting took a look at herself.
Bulk?
She couldnât remember ever having any âbulkâ, to begin with. Did that mean she used to be plump?
Shen Manting sat down and nodded. She was touched by their concern.
Halfway through the meal, Shen Luoâan came out from his room with his son.
Little Moon skipped his way to the dinner table and shouted âMommy!â when he saw Shen Manting.
Shen Manting nodded and smiled affectionately at him.
Shen Luoâan settled him on his seat at the dinner table and prompted him, âHave you forgotten to greet your elders?â
âGrandpa, Grandma,â he chirped. Then, he glanced over at old Mrs. Shen. He blinked and shouted, âGrandma.â
Shen Luoâan chuckled. He pinched his cheek and corrected him, âSheâs your great grandmother.â
âG-great grandma!â he shouted.
He shouted at the top of his voice, but stumbled on his words.
Everyone at the table burst into laughter. Old Mrs. Shen smiled and passed him a cup of soy milk. âTry repeating it,â she encouraged.
âG-great grandma!â
Ye Qianqian was beside herself with laughter. She teased, âHow about me? How should you address me?â
Little Moon cocked his head to one side, immersed in deep thought. He was stumped and turned to Shen Luoâan for help. âDaddy...â
Shen Luoâan chuckled and reminded him, âSheâs your aunt.â
Little Moon uttered in a low voice, âA-ant.â
âItâs âaunt,ââ Ye Qianqian corrected him. âRepeat after me and enunciate properly. âAunt.ââ
Little Moon appeared slightly embarrassed, seemingly aware of his own mistake. He shrank a little and uttered warily, âA-ant.â
Ye Qianqian gave up and passed him a steamed bun. âGood boy.â
Little Moon took the bun from her and broke into a grin.
Shen Luoâan bowed his head slightly and said, âThank you, Aunt.â
âThank you, A-ant.â
The whole family erupted in laughter at his adorable response. Shen Zhilie finally joined them at the table and smiled. âYou have no problem addressing your parents, but youâre tongue-tied when greeting the rest of us, eh?â he teased.
âUncle!â Little Moon exclaimed excitedly when he saw Shen Zhilie.
Shen Zhilie chortled. âYouâre quite clever, arenât you?â
Little Moon seemed to understand the compliment and swayed his legs happily.
âThatâs not all our Little Moon is capable of,â Shen Luoâan added, sitting next to Shen Zhilie. âWhat do you say when youâre visiting Mommy?â
He gestured with his hand, prompting the child to recite his usual greeting. Both Shen Luoâan and Little Moon chorused, âMommy, Little Moon is here to see you!â
Shen Manting was moved by the easy chemistry between father and son.
