Ch 12: Sweet Sweet Revenge
A Tormented Heart
Recap:
"Cess?" A concerned voice came from behind her. Cecilia paused, uncertain whether she should make a run for it, not wanting anyone to see her like this. However, that slight second of hesitation cost her, as the person advanced swiftly.
A blonde head came into view as she let out a gasp. "Oh my god, what happened?"
--------------------------
The rest of the day passed in a blur.
Having been caught by Sophia, Cecilia had dreaded that she would be in for a lengthy interrogation. But, to her surprise, Sophia had immediately changed the topic before Cess could even respond to her question, and instead dragged her for an all-day office tour.
Within half an hour, the woman had Cess smiling again, and within 10 minutes of that Cess was laughing at her antics. Sophia didn't give Cess even a moment to wallow in misery. Whether or not Sophia had realised why she was crying, Cess didn't know; but she did know that had it not been for Soph, she would have been sat crying in a corner somewhere.
And yet, despite all of Sophia's efforts, Cess couldn't help feeling as if someone had placed a deadweight on her heart. Even as she laughed and smiled, she knew that her heart wasn't really in it.
They were sat in a french café, an assortment of cheesecakes and muffins in front of them, drinking coffee. Cess tried to smile as she listened to Soph speak, but unable to, she looked down at her lap, tears coming to her eyes uninvited. Sensing this, Sophia just smiled at her sadly, enveloping her in a warm hug.
"Why don't you just go home for the day? I'll handle everything here."
"What?" Cecilia startled. "No. It's only 3pm. I'm supposed to be here until 6pm, at the earliest. And, I still have to go through those files-"
"I told you. I'll handle everything. Besides, you're not going to get any work done in this condition. Just go home for now, and you can start afresh tomorrow, ok?"
Knowing that Soph spoke the truth, Cecilia couldn't find it within herself to argue. "Ok. I'll see you tomorrow, then."
"Bye. Take care, ok?" Soph looked at her with concerned blue eyes.
"I will, I will!" Cess said, exasperated. "And you, stop being such a mother hen, ok?"
"Ha!" Blue eyes sparkled. "I will, if you will!"
Cecilia just shook her head, smiling as she got up. "Ok, bye!"
"I LOVE YOU, MA CHÃRIE!" A loud voice called after her.
Seeing a few heads turn towards her in bemusement, Cess felt her cheeks heat up.
"I don't know that person!" She hastily whispered in embarrassment, as she speed-walked out of the shop. "Honestly!"

Cecilia collapsed as soon as she reached her room. She felt drained, emotionally and physically. Uncertain how to proceed from here, she wondered what she would say to her father if he asked.
'Oh, yes, Papa, everything is just perfect! Well, apart from the fact that Nic doesn't actually want to see my face, all the office staff hate me and I don't have a clue as to how we'll communicate, let alone organise anything... yep, everything else is just fine!"
"Urgh!!!" Cess let out a groan, only too well able to imagine her father's reaction to that.
"No, I can't just let this continue. Should I just apologise to Nic?" She thought aloud. Then, abruptly, she felt her anger resurface. "But, hold on, why should I apologise? He's the one who has behaved so atrociously, so why should I apologise? If anything, he's the one who will apologise to me!"
Closing her eyes, her lips curved into a sleepy smile as she dreamt about the many vile and wonderful things she would do for revenge.
Nicolas Freire didn't know what he had in store for him!

"Good morning, Ma'am!"
"Morning, Ma'am!"
"Hello, Ma'am!"
"Good morning!"
Befuddled by the unexpectedly warm reception the next morning, it took Cess a few seconds to determine that she was indeed in the correct place. Was this the same cold staff from yesterday?
"Morning, Ms Knight!"
Understanding dawned upon her suddenly. They had all heard Nicolas calling her that the previous day, and all of a sudden they were now behaving as if the sun rose and set on her. Grim amusement filled her. Were their loyalties so easily swayed?
Inclining her head at the staff as she made her way to her office, Cecilia was proud to note that she now knew exactly where the toilets, kitchenettes, printing rooms, meeting rooms and boardrooms were. Most importantly, she knew exactly where the offices were - or to be more precise, where Nic's office was.
As soon as she saw Sophia, she questioned her about Nic's schedule for the day.
"Why?" She asked, not a little suspiciously. "I thought you weren't speaking to him?"
"Ugh, well I'm not... at the moment. But, I want to be." Cecilia contrived to look suitably apologetic. "The thing is, I want to make amends with him. It can't continue like this. We're both adults here and we have a job to complete. We have to be professional." Cess raised her head, trying to look as genuine as possible.
Sophia studied her expression for a moment, before exclaiming in relief. "Finally! At least one of you has some common sense! Nic is behaving like a little child!"
Cess just nodded, sombrely.
"I'm so glad, Cess. I knew I could count on you!" Soph beamed. "Anyway, Nic has a meeting around 11am today with some foreign investors, so it's probably best if you wait until after that's over. Maybe around 1pm? I'll help you find the way-"
"NO!!!" Cecilia cleared her throat as Sophia jumped. "No. Uh, that's quite alright. I'm sure I can find it. Wouldn't want to trouble you!" She chuckled, nervously.
"Well, if you're sure, then..."
"Yes, yes, quite sure! Thank you! Bye!"
Cess quickly shut the door behind a befuddled Sophia, putting her plan into action.
"Ok," she muttered to herself. "It's half nine now, so that gives me just over an hour before Nic leaves for his meeting. That means that I have about 15 mins to get there and back, and about 45 mins once I'm there. It probably won't take me longer than 15 mins, but an extra 30 mins just in case something goes wrong..."
Gathering her arsenal of weapons in her handbag, Cecilia made her way down the corridor, determined not to attract any attention by behaving suspiciously.
Knocking on the door confidently, she frantically tried to think of an excuse just in case Nic was to open the door. Waiting for a minute without any response, Cess decided to knock again cautiously. When there was no response again, she slowly opened the door a fraction.
Seeing the coast was clear, she let herself in, shutting the door behind her softly. Suddenly, she felt adrenaline rush through her as she heard the shower running in the attached ensuite. Realising that she would have to work quickly, she scrambled to get the itching powder and juice out.
Spotting the freshly dry-cleaned suit hung up on a corner in a zipped cover bag, Cecilia tip toed over, opening the zip slowly and generously sprinkled a good measure of the powder down each of the trouser legs. Then, just to make sure, she took out a plastic glove from her bag, and rubbed the powder along the inner lining of his suit and freshly laundered shirt. Spotting his underwear among the clothes, she briefly considered it, but then decided it would be too cruel - even for her.
Looking around for his shoes, she cracked open her juice can to pour into it. Just as she was about to, it occurred to her that he would realise straight away that his shoes were wet, and her entire plan would be ruined. She needed to think of something else, quick!
Spinning her head around, her eyes suddenly fell upon something on his desk.
There it was, gleaming. Sleek. Just begging to be opened.
"Now, what am I willing to bet that there is no password on that?" The iPhone clicked open with a slide. "Cocky a**hole! Does he think no-one will even have the guts to touch his phone? Ha! This will teach him a lesson." She mumbled to herself, as she fiddled around. "Done!"
Grabbing her open can, she took a congratulatory sip, before freezing as she heard the shower stop running.
"Cecilia... RUN!!"
Closing the door behind herself as softly as she could, she half ran, half walked down the corridor back to her office, only allowing herself to breathe once she was firmly sat back in her seat.
Cess: 2, Mr A**hole: 0
Nic's stern voice drifted down the corridor an hour later. "Remember, all phones should be switched off, or on silent. No disturbances will be tolerated during this meeting. Mine has already been on silent since this morning, and you should all ensure the same. Understood?"
"Yes, sir!" A chorus of voices sounded.
"Good, then let's go. They are waiting for us in the West boardroom."
Full of excitement and anticipation, Cess crept out and followed them down the hall to the boardroom. The men all went inside straight away, shutting the door behind them, allowing Cess only the briefest glimpse inside. She couldn't see what was happening, nor could she hear anything.
Nic's voice earlier hadn't revealed any sort of discomfort over the itching powder in his suit. Was he not at all affected? Cess felt her frustration building as minutes passed and nothing happened.
Fine. She was just going to have to go with the last resort.
Pulling out her phone, she quietly dialled Nic's number. She waited with bated breath.
And then...
Ah... Girl look at that body!
Ah... Girl look at that body!
Ah... Girl look at that body!
Ah... I work out
Ah... Girl look at that body!
Ah... Girl look at that body!
Ah... Girl look at that body!
Ah... I work out
When I walk in the spot (yeah), this is what I see (ok)
Everybody stops and they staring at me
I got passion in my pants and I ain't afraid to show it, show it, show it, show it!
I'm sexy and I know it!
I'm sexy and I know it!
Cecilia covered her mouth to stop herself from laughing as she felt tears coming out from her eyes.
"Whose phone is that?! Turn it off at once!" Nic's loud voice sounded through the double doors. "Didn't I warn you all to have your phones switched off?! Whoever it is, you're fired!"
There was complete silence for a moment, before some brave employee finally spoke up.
"Umm, sir... I think... it's your phone."
This made Cecilia burst out into a fresh wave of laughter, as she bent over clutching a hand to her mouth.
"What?!! Mine?! I don't think so..." Another moment of silence, as Cecilia imagined Nic checking his phone.
"WHO DID THIS??!!!!"
