Chapter 279
How My Ex Became My Next by Kirk Stanley ( Gilda Lynch )
Chapter
Jacksonâs gaze hardened as he gestured for Gilda to stay put
He then approached the driverâs seat and saw a woman in a hospital gown, frail and bleeding from the head, slumped over wheel.
Only when Jackson pushed her did he see her face clearly. âItâs her.â
Gilda, too, the driver.
It was Emily.
âHow did she get out? Did she just?â A daring suspicion crossed her mind. âWas she trying to kill me?â Gilda murmured, realization dawning on her.
This was no accident but a possible murder attempt.
Was Emily trying to end her life?
Gilda was seized with fear, realizing how close she had come to death.
If Jackson hadnât been there to push her away and protect her, she might have died.
Gilda didnât dare to continue that thought, overwhelmed by the fear of what could have happened.
Jackson, understanding the gravity of the situation, stepped forward to shield her, comforting her with his presence. âItâs okay, Iâm here.â
In that moment, Gilda found solace in his assurance
Police, firefighters, and paramedics soon arrived at the scene, and a perimeter was established.
Since the incident occurred at Glory Corporation, Gilda, as a responsible party, was taken to the police station for a statement, with Jackson accompanying her throughout.
After giving their statements, Gilda noticed Jacksonâs arm was bleeding. She grabbed his arm, concerned. âJackson, youâre hurt!?â
Jackson tried to downplay it. âItâs nothing, just a scratch.â
Gilda insisted. âThatâs not a minor injury. Youâve lost a large patch of skin. Come on, Iâm taking you to the hospital.â
Jackson wanted to refuse, but seeing Gildaâs worried expression warmed his heart.
He allowed her to lead him to the hospital.
âDoctor, please treat his wound,â Gilda requested.

The doctor adjusted his glasses, taken aback by the size of the wound, which wasnât much bigger than a coin.
Before he could speak, his eyes widened in surprise, thinking to himself, âIsnât him Jackson Harrington?â
Alex was about to say something when Jackson signaled for silence.
Alex, catching on and noticing Gildaâs anxious expression, guessed the situation and began treating the wound.
âYour boyfriendâs injury seems quite severe,â the doctor commented, playing along.
Gilda, focused on Jackson, didnât catch the oddity in the doctorâs remark, only urging, âDoctor, please, treat him quickly.â
Alex reassured her. âDonât worry, itâs nothing serious,â
Then, turning to Jackson, he added, âYour boyfriendâs quite a catch, handsome and wealthy.â
Gilda found the doctorâs comment odd. âHow can you tell heâs wealthy?â
Caught offâguard, Alex coughed awkwardly. Then, realizing who Gilda was, he said, âArenât you familiar somehow?â
Gilda was surprised, âFamiliar? Do we know each other?â
Alex recognized her. âMs. Gilda Lynch from the Lynch family?â
Gilda strained to recall any information about Alex but came up empty. âDo you really know me?â
Jackson coughed lightly from behind. âAlex, my college classmate. You met him at a graduation reunion.â
