Truth

Maria woke up to an empty bed. She looked around and saw she was at Nicole's house. The night came flooding back to her. All she could see was Joanna on top of John like it was nothing. As the images replayed, she realized she wasn't angry. She was glad. Relieved. John gave her a reason to finally leave the empty marriage they had.

She sat up in the bed grabbing a laptop. She opened it to Yahoo and noticed a cover story. Governor's Lesbian Affair. She couldn't believe her eyes. A picture of her came across the screen with Nicole's arms around her waist. 'This can't be happening. No. No. No.' Maria felt her heart stop how could this happen she thought. She grabbed her phone quickly calling Joanna. After a while there was no answer. She sent her a text.

She called Nicole.

"Officer Brian."

"Nicole they know."

"Maria what are you talking about, who knows?"

"The press. Joanna must have leaked it after I caught her and John."

"Maria, what does this mean?"

"i don't know."

Maria knew what it meant but, she didn't want to worry Nicole or make her think it was her fault. Maria gathered her things and called her driver. Before she could make it out of Nicole's home, media crews surrounded the officer's home, questioning Maria.\

"Is this the home of you lesbian lover?"

"Does this mean you're droping out of the race?"

"Does your husband know?!"

maria ran to the car slaming the door. She headed home.

Maria walked up the steep hill to her home. Thankfully the media was far behind. She opened the door and saw her mother and father. She had forgotten that they stayed. As she walked closer she saw John standing by the kitchen door. "Maria, what have you done?" her father asked.

Before Maria could answer, her mother began yelling. "Maria, we did not raise you to do such unspeakable acts. You're married and you know that thi...these acts are sins against God. I dont want you around that...that...."

"That what Mama?! That woman that has brought so much peace and joy to mylife? That woman who showed me she cared? That woman that filled my heart so much it overflowed?" Maria began to cry as her anger boiled over.

"Stop that right now. That thing can not bring you happiness. That is why you have John!" her mother yelled.

"Really Mama? Did John tell you how he was here the entire time, fucking my best friend!!? Did he tell you that he brought her a house!!? Did he!!!" Maria didn't think her voice could get any louder.

Her mother stood there in awe. She looked to John then a red faced Maria. Her father walked to John, he looked him in the eyes, "Is this true?" He asked in a deep, bitter tone.

John stood speechless. Maria's father puched him and John hit the floor with blood dripping from his nose. The four of them began arguing. One over the other, Maria finally had enough. "GET OUT!!"

She had no idea what else to do. "Get all of your things and get out of my house. NOW!"

The other three grew quite and her parents went to get their things. John walked closer to Maria. "John, get away from me and get out of my house."

"Bu-but baby I love you. Jo meant nothing to me."

Maria felt as if her head was going to explode. "GET THE HELL OUT!"

John nodded and headed to the door. He looked back one time. Maria's parents made their way down the stairs her mother stopped, looking her daughter in the eye. "You will burn in hell."

Maria turned and listened as her parents shut the door.

"Nic! Nic!" Jesse called as she ran to catch up with the blond, who's legs seemed to never end.

"What?"

"Did you hear?"

Nicole just turned and walked away. Jesse yelled her name again but, she kept going. Nicole got in her truck and headed home. As she pulled out of the parking lot, her phone rang.

"Jesse, I don't care. I don't want to hear about it."

"Is this a bad time again?"

Nicole heard Maria soft voice and her face lit up. "No, no, no. I was going to call you when i got home to make sure you were ok."

"I'm not ok. I was wondering if..."

"Maria, Maria are you there?"

"Yes, can you pick me up at the park where you pushed me on the swing?"

"Yea, yea, I'll be there."

"Nicloe?"

"Yeah?"

"Nevermind, I'll see you soon."

Maria hung up. Nicole headed to the park.
