Gone
Throwing It All Away
Nicole sat at the airport alone. She asked Maria to not come fearing that she may cry and miss her flight. Her head was filled with the many ways she could ask Maria to marry her. However, she was confused. Would Maria want a party? Or something more intimate. She had about six months to figure it out. Until then, thoughts of Maria and her body filled Nicole's head.
***FLASHBACK***
"You're going to miss your flight and it won't be my fault." Maria teased.
"It will be all you. I mean how can I leave all of this." Nicole said as she laid kissed down Maria's curvaceous form.
"Don't blame me. I just woke up like this."
The two began to fall into a fit of laughter. Maria straddled Nicole, hovering over her masculine yet feminine body. The normally composed governor eyes darkened with desire. She leaned down, lips hovering over the soldiers. "I love you. Promise you'll come back. Unharmed."
Blue eyes met the darkened gaze. "Always."
***END FLASHBACK***
"Flight 195 nonstop to Norfolk International now boarding gate 2." Came a voice over the intercom, pulling Nicole back from the memories of this morning. She pulled her bag over her shoulder and made her way. Maria never once leaving her mind.
*****************
"I'm scared. The only time she listens to this is if she's mad or sad. How can we tell which one?" One of Maria's interns asked.
Maria had left that morning after pulling herself together somewhat. She cried for an hour after Nicole left. Feeling empty she dress and went to work face cold as stone.
Now she sat in her office looking out the window. Night After Sidewalk came from her speakers, filling her with melancholy. The song Nicole played for her on nights when she couldn't sleep. She hated seeing her leave, after last time she wasn't sure she could deal.
"Don't just stand there come in!" Maria barked at the timied young man.
"Ms. We...we."
"We what?!"
"We came to see you." Cam an all to falimiar voice.
"Mama?"
"Hello."
Maria stood shocked. She hadn't seen or heard from her parents in since...well since they left her.
"What do you want?" She spat venomously.
"Hija no need to talk to me that way."
Maria rolled her eyes. She noticed the inter still there. "Get out." He ran as if he was on fire.
Gloria shut the door and sat in front of Maria's desk. "How are you?"
"If you're here to see if I'm still with Nicole. The answer is yes."
Gloria's face looked in horror as Maria continued.
"This morning I had the most amazing sex with. She gave me something John never did. Every minute was about me and how I felt. So yes mother I am still with her. The amazing, strong, beautiful, goddess I was fortunate to find. More so to have her find me."
Her mother looked shocked. "And where is she now? Off at some dyke convention?" Gloria said, pushing Maria to the edge she was already headed to.
"She's out protecting the country in which you are now a citizen of. If not for her hard work with the others what would you do? Not a damn thing. Sit there and be in fear of what is different of what the world could do to you in you pathetic life."
Maria stood and walked to the door. "Leave my office and don't ever come back." She left, thinking of slamming the door but thought better of it.
As she walked to her car, the tears began to flood. Opening the door to her car and getting in, a sob left her mouth. It's vibrations filling the car.
She need Nicole. Now more than ever.
***********
Nicole sat in her office...a tent would be a better term. She looked over the plans again trying to fully understand why she was put in charge. It was never in her being to question what she was told but looking at these plans...they were ridiculous.
She threw them asaide and open her computer. She saw Maria was signed into Skype and decided now was a good time to get her mind off of the work beside her.
After what felt like a century, Maria's face came into view and Nicole could see she had been crying.
"Hi sweetie. What's wrong?"
Before Maria could answer the tears she held cascaded down her face. Nicole sat watching the woman she love break. Silently waiting for her to get all the frustration in her body.
"Babe tell me what happened?"
Maria sucked in a deep breath. She told Nicole about the surprise visit from her mother and how she continued to belittle her.
"Maria, it'll get better. If you want you can tell her you're not with me. That it was all for fun."
"What!? No. No, I will not do that. She, nor my father, deserve to dictate my life. How could you even say that? Do you not want to be with Mr?"
"No...I- I didn't mean it like that."
"Well how did you mean it Nicole?"
Nicole sat there. The silence was eating away at her. "I..."
"No, I'll tell you what. When you figure out what you meant to say come back and talk. Until then I don't want talk to you about this or anything for that matter."
"Maria, listen to me."
Nicole saw the anger fill her eyes. 'Why didn't I take Spanish.' She thought before Maria let loose.
" ¿Qué te hace pensar que quiero ocultar ti. Asà que usted puede ser libre y hacer una de las pequeñas jazzabells ejército . No joder no. ¿Por lo menos me amas ? Primero mi madre y ahora . Lo que el que va a Nicole . Mira, yo sabÃa que esto iba a pasar ... te fuiste y ahora. ahora estoy solo te extraño . te quiero aquà conmigo . no me importa si parezco egoÃsta, te quiero de vuelta."
By the end of her tiny rant Maria was in tears.
"I want you to come home."
Nicole dropped her head. "I will be home soon. I promise. Nothing crazy or stupid that could keep me here. I love you."
Maria whipped the tears from her face. "I love you too."
"Captian, we have a problem."
"Maria, I love you. I'll be home soon. I have to go."
"Bye."
Maria closed her laptop. Her eyes dry from the emotional rollercoaster she has been on.
