Throwing It All Away
Nicole sat at her desk. Her mind going over the plans her father sent. In the upcoming months she would be back in the states preparing for the best day of her life. It made her heart swell with love and joy to know that Maria was going to be her wife. But, the doubt loomed in her mind of time and whether or not Maria even wanted to get married again.
She sat the the ring in her pocket and made her way through the cold sand swept camp. Iraq was not the place she wanted to be but, she had a duty.

"Maria Santiago everyone."
"Good evening. Ladies and gentlemen, I am so excited to be here. As you all know, I was very pleased that I was chosen to be apart of the new movement. I want to say that my prayers are with our soldiers. May they all return home safe."
The last line hit Maria to her core. Her fears resurfaced. 'Where is Nicole? Is she ok? When will I see her?'
The doubt brought on depression. Never had she known what it would be like to be committed to someone who dedicated their life to serving their country.
As she sat in the car her mind wondered to Nicole and what she was doing at this moment. Light tears began to cover her cheeks. Nicole was gone, for now and there wasn't much she could do.
As she arrived at her office, she was given a letter. Maria's mind went to Nicole.
"My beautiful Maria,
I know we haven't been in touch much but, I needed you to know I love you. As I sit her in the cold, sandy desert you are all I can think of. They way you smile. How even when you're mad you have such sex appeal. Like, when you speak Spanish (mostly yelling at me) I find it amazing and sexy. I miss you and when I come home I want to be with you forever. I hate the time we are spending apart. I love you.
Forever yours,
Nic"
The salt tears cascade down Maria's face. Her body slumped into the chair. She missed Maria more than she dare to tell anyone.
"I miss her."

Nicole stood checking cars as they made their way out of the city. Her mind fully on the job.
"Brian! Come look at this."
Nicole followed the solider. "What's that?"
"We thought we'd get you a gift since you're spending Christmas with us. You're a great leader and well, we wanted to cheer you up."
She looked seeing a Maria's face. "Hi Nic. The guys are quite a handful."
"I...Maria."
"Yes, it's me. And your parents."
"Hi honey!" Nicole's mother said.
Nicole spent twenty minutes talking to Maria and her parents.
"I love you." Maria said.
"I love you too."
Before they said their goodbyes the crappy service finally gave out. Nicole got up, making her way back to her post. The tiny about of time still in her mind.
A bright light suddenly pulled her from her vision.

Ok, I know this is crappy but the hospital wifi sucks and my sister had to sneak my phone in here. I'm sick not dying. That's why I hate hospitals. Anyway I hope you enjoy.
Much love
