Chapter 815
The Unfaithful Mr. Scott
Yvonneâs friendâs name was Philip Simon. As soon as they entered the hall, he distanced himself from Melanie, saying, âJust contact me when you want to leave. Yvonne gave me orders to make sure you get back safely.â
Melanie smiled. âDoes she think there are monsters here?â
Philip shrugged. âMaybe.â
When he finished speaking, Melanie saw a person worse than a monster.
She knew that there was a possibility of encountering Eugene at such gatherings. In Nava, she would carefully check the guest list for every party she attended. However, this time, it was an invitation from Matthew, and she did not have the chance to refuse.
Philip noticed her gaze. âWhatâs wrong?â
âNothing. I just hope the heavy rain wonât affect my flight tomorrow morning.â
She smiled and no longer focused on Eugene.
It had been almost a year, and there was nothing between her and Eugene anymore. There was no need to waste energy and time on someone in the past.
After exchanging pleasantries with Philip, Melanie turned and took a glass of champagne. She walked toward a group of people not far away.
Some Nava entrepreneurs were chatting there, and Lilia was also among them.
Even though Matthew had told her nothing about this party, Melanie could guess his intentions.
â
Initially, she and Matthew agreed that she would work for him in Nava. Regardless of Matthewâs original motivation for helping her, he saved her, and that was an undeniable fact.
After contemplating, Melanie raised her eyelashes and walked over with a smile. She effortlessly blended into the conversation.
The topic stopped when a deep voice suddenly intervened. Eugene held a glassâ and looked at Lilia. â
Ms. Lilia, itâs been a long time since weâve seen each other.â
Liliaâs eyes flickered slightly, and she smiled. âMr. Scott, thanks to you, I was fortunate to get the chance to work with LeapCo.â
She picked up a glass of fruit juice. âIâm sorry, Mr. Scott. Iâm not feeling well recently, so I canât drink. Iâll toast you with some fruit juice. Merry Christmas, Mr. Scott.â
Melanie remained expressionless.
She had heard a lot about Liliaâs experiences. She had established herself step by step in Nava, and now others addressed her by her name instead of her title as Mrs. Solder.
She glanced at Lilla again.
Seemingly aware of her gaze, Lilia glanced over and teased, âMs. Smith, you must be busy lately.
âI heard that many people are recommending young men to you.â
She said this to divert the topic from business. Before Eugene arrived, someone had brought up the issues of the Solder family and Sunshade, She was skillfully steering the conversation away.
Melanie was willing to help her out, so she continued, âThere have been quite a few men.â
âBut they might all be disappointed, yes?â Lilia continued, âThe one you were just with, heâs Philip from Jelson, right? I knew it! Ms. Smith, youâre so young, beautiful, and capable. There must be many men pursuing you.â
Apparently, Lilia had misunderstood her relationship with Philip, but Melanie did not intend to explain.
The main reason was that explaining her love life to others felt strange, especially in front of several men.
However, she also knew that Lilia did not mean any harm, so she just smiled. She was ready to explain it to Philip later.
She could feel a gaze on her. Melanie did not need to turn around to know who it was.
