Jodie found herself in Lucaâs embrace but did not feel as happy and proud as she did in the Gray
Family. Instead, she could not help but push him away. âIâm fine, Luca.â
They were liveâstreaming, so how could her brother be so careless? Hugging and cuddling in front of
Zacâs fans, at that! What would he think of her?
Seeing that Luca was still holding onto her, she pushed him again. Then, she reminded him, âLuca,
weâre on liveâstream for a variety show, and we should follow the rules set by the production team. We
work to earn money so we can have a good place to stay at night.â
After her reminder, Luca realized what was happeningâthey were still liveâstreaming. It was his first
time participating in a live variety show, and he rarely did live streams himself, so he had forgotten
about it.
Still, the audience had already seen their intimate behavior, and many were joking in the live chat.
âHere it comes, the tremendous love from the foster brother!â
On the scene, Luca immediately released Jodie. âIâm just afraid that youâll feel wronged.â Then, he
looked at Zac. âAlthough youâre the customer, you shouldnât intentionally find fault, right?â
Zac looked at him with a smile and asked, âAnd how did we do that? When you go to a restaurant or
spend money on services, do you wish to see your servicerâs sour face or stiff smile?â
Luca choked. âWe donât- He was about to say they would not serve them anymore, but Jodie quickly
interrupted, âWe will try our best. She reached out and tugged at his clothes, telling him not to be
impulsive.
Then, she smiled and looked at Zac. âWhat cello piece would you like to hear? We can play it
now.â
This smile no longer seemed forced. It had to be said that she was often able to humble herself and
endure many situations.
Zac also knew that if he continued to find fault, the audience might dislike them. He did not mind that
but did not want the audience to dislike Simone. So, he turned to her and Harry, inquiring. âWhat would
you like to hear?â
Harry said, âIâm fine with anything. Whatever Simone likes.â
Zac smiled. âMe too. Iâll listen to whatever Simone wants to hear.â
The two of them made Jodie feel a pang of jealousy. Whether it was their industry status or

family background, Zac was far superior to Simone.
She had seen him at high society banquets or entertainment events, and the man always carried an air
of aristocracy and arrogance. His personality was even more unrestrained. He had always held others
in high regard, but no one had ever seen him hold anyone similarly.
She could not understand why someone like Zac, a prodigy, would hold Simone in such high esteem.
The more she thought about it, the more she could not accept it. She wanted to snatch him away and
enjoy his affection and admiration.
Simone took the cello playlist handed to her by the waiter and glanced at it. Then, she casually pointed
at two pieces and said, âLetâs hear these two.â
Luca frowned and asked, âTwo songs?â
He did not want to do it anymore, so he was rather angry with Jodie.
If they stopped the live performance, the audience would, at most, curse a few times. It was still better
than being so frustrated. They did not rely on variety shows for a living, so why should they suppress
themselves like this? However, Jodie chose to endure, so he could not just leave.
Simone looked at him as if he had lost his mind and said, âTwo songs, of course. One from cach of
you.â
He was speechless. âYou want us to play two more songs?â
She confidently replied, âWe paid for it, so we should enjoy this service. If you donât want to, let the
manager talk to us.â
Jodie could not help but get angry. âSimone, thatâs enough.â
If they called the manager, they would lose their wages.
Simone looked at them and said, âEither play the cello or call the manager. I will complain. Itâs up to
you.â
Jodie whispered, âLuca, think about the hotel we want to stay in tonight.â
With Simoneâs arrogant personality, she would call the manager to complain if they did not perform.
Without wages, how could they afford a better hotel tonight? Only after hearing this did Luca grit his
teeth and say, âFine, weâll play.â
Then, the two divided the work, and Jodie picked up the cello and started playing. She had deliberately
changed into a silver trailing gown. When playing the cello, she posed in a way that made her look
intellectual and elegant.

During her time at the music academy, the cello was her main instrument. Thus, she was confident in
her skills.
After finishing the piece, she looked at Zac and asked, âAre you guys satisfied?â She believed that she
had performed well and that the man would appreciate i
1. it.
To her surprise, he asked her with a hint of strangeness, âDo you want to hear the truth or a white lie?â
Jodie felt a sense of unease when she heard his question. She replied, âOf course, I want to hear the
truth.â
In all honesty, he commented, âIt was poor, and the emotions were completely off. This was originally a
cheerful piece, but you played it with the feeling of a resentful woman. I felt suffocated and had the
urge to vent my dissatisfaction. So, not up to my par.
At that point, she was speechless. She suddenly regretted asking his opinion on her performance. Still,
she did not believe she played poorly and took a deep breath before asking, âReally? Can you be more
specific?â
She thought he was intentionally picking on her under Simoneâs instigation.
Meanwhile, Zac could see her dissatisfaction. Her words were insinuating he was intentionally finding
faults. He reached out and said, âCan you pass me the cello?â
And so Jodie did.
Then, the man played a short section. âFor example, here. It shouldâve been livelier like this.â Then, he
imitated Jodieâs playing. âBut when you play it, it sounds like this.â
It was almost a replica.
Then, he found a few more similar sections, played them once, and repeated Jodieâs playing. The other
tables in the restaurant, as well as the viewers on the live stream, thought Jodieâs cello playing was
good.
They initially dismissed Zacâs comments as nitpicking. However, after listening to his playing and
comments, they realized he was not nitpicking but rather speaking the truth. In addition. to his playing,
he also provided some comments.
They indeed noticed several differences and issues. One rendition sounded cheerful, while the other
felt resentful and frustrated.
Some viewers even went online to listen to the cello piece, and it indeed was supposed to sound
cheerful.
From this perspective, Jodieâs confidence in her cello skills was not as strong as she had

thought.
Curiously, Harry asked, âWhat about the white lie?â
Zac smiled and replied, âPlaying the cello is just a hobby. I canât compare to a professional music
graduate like Miss Jodie.â
The people present were rendered speechless. This statement might not be hurtful, but it was
extremely insulting.
Zac truly lived up to his reputationâ¦
Jodie did not expect him to have such a deep understanding of the cello. As soon as he played and
commented, she knew she would be embarrassed today. She could not understand why he could not
show a bit of gentlemanly behavior toward her. Initially, she thought asking him about the white lie
would have been a better approach.
Who would have thought his soâcalled white lie would be even more cutting and infuriating?
