Chapter 12

Chorus (Three)

Beat Of My Heart

"Run!" he screamed at me, grabbing my hand with his and we took off through the narrow corridors of the school, trying hard to escape the throng of students following us rapidly.

We must not have noticed the bell ringing signaling that it was time to change classes, and I realized how immersed we were in each other's presence.

We burst through the double doors right as a black SUV was waiting outside for us to jump into.

I didn't have time to react as he shoved me inside the car, wondering why he was insisting that I went along with him as well but I didn't have time to question it as we were speeding off and away from the school.

There was awkward silence in the vehicle as I gathered my bearings and said the first thing that came to mind.

"You know technically this is the second time you've kidnapped me..."

He started laughing really loud and the sound was infectious, but the driver gave him an incredulous look.

"Really, you kidnapped her?! I thought we taught you better than that, only take the girls that are willing dude!" the driver snapped at him and when I took a closer look I realized that it was a guy who was always photographed with Sebastian on the red carpets sometimes when he didn't have a girl on his arm.

He had light brown hair and brown eyes and a really sharp nose that I always thought made him look a bit like a bird but no one else ever agreed with me when I would point it out.

Shrugging my shoulders, I cracked a smile, focusing my attention on the man who'd pretty much kidnapped me, for real this time.

"You know I've never skipped school before," I told him, noticing how his smile faltered at what I said.

"Oh no, now I'm corrupting you!"

We both laughed at this one.

"I get drunk at your concert and you say that you're the one corrupting me?"

"I'm pretty sure I only saw you with two drinks.  If two drinks got you drunk, then I can put money on the fact that you've never really been drunk before at all, am I right?" he asked me, and my mouth hung open at the fact that he got all of that accurate.

"How did you-"

"Its called tolerance, sweetheart.  You can't handle your liquor," he said to me, his eyes shining in the early morning sun of the day.

"Oh what and you can?  You're only eighteen," I pressed on, loving how we could casually banter back and forth between each other.

"So?  I can pretty much get it anywhere, only I can't drink out in public, its really a bummer..." he trailed off.

"Wow.  Do you know what this is?" I asked him, making a moving back and forth motion with my pointer finger and thumb.

"No, what?" he asked, genuinely confused.

I laughed.

"It's the world's tiniest violin playing for you," I said, causing the driver to burst out laughing while Sebastian just rolled his eyes at my antics.

"Do you guys want me to leave, or...?" the driver asked us and I blushed, realizing how intimate and separate our flirting and teasing must have seemed.

I laughed off the comment but I didn't miss the subtle wink Sebastian threw my way.

"So what now? You stole me away from school to do what exactly?" I asked him.

"Well, you see I wasn't really thinking anything through what with all of the screaming people chasing us out of the building.  What do you want to do, go back to school?"

I thought about it for a second, and then I shook my head at him.

"No, I have a better idea.  Driver, or whatever your name is, take the next left right up there at the stop sign.  You're gonna love this."

Five minutes later, we arrived at our destination.

And I also found out that the driver's name was Jason, one of Sebastian's friends from his hometown that he employed to be his personal driver.  He said it was the best job he'd ever had in his life.

"You've gotta be kidding me," Sebastian said beside me and I shook my head at him glee.

"Not one bit!"  I said to him and the driver just chuckled at us in amusement.

"Of course you'd pick this place," he said, shaking his head in mock annoyance.

His green eyes lit up when he saw the place, actually, and I could tell it had been a while since he'd done anything even remotely like childlike fun since he started his journey to become a heartthrob and famous international musician.

"What, you don't like it?" I asked him, pouting out my lip in fake sadness.

"No no no, I love it!" He said a little too seriously, as if he didn't want me upset.

I laughed at his reaction, making him realize that I was only kidding about being upset at his reaction to the spot that I'd chosen.

"But really though, a park?  What if people see me?"

"That's what a baseball cap is for, genius!" I said to him matter of factly.

"The paparazzi have spotted me with a fake mustache, fake glasses a baseball cap and a fat suit. I'm pretty sure a simple baseball cap won't work..." he said and I busted out laughing at his confession.

"What on earth possessed you to wear a fat suit?!" I almost screamed at him in laughter like a hyena.

"Don't make fun of me, I was a really hot fat dude!" he said and I just laughed even harder, even the driver Jason was laughing with me.

"Oh, I'm sure you did.  Now get your ass out of the car and push me on the damn swings, Mr. Fluffy Pants!" I demanded of him and he just laughed, slipping on a ball cap and saluting at me.

I dashed out of the vehicle and directly over to the swings.  If what he said was true and the paparazzi were so good at finding him then I figured we only had a few minutes to play at the park, if not less, so I really wanted to make the best out of it.

"You're such a child!" he said to me, laughing as he got behind me and put his hand on the chains above my head to pull me up into the air to get me to get good height on the swing.

"And you're not?" I asked him, hyper aware of the fact that he was directly behind me, the heat from his body warming me to my very core.

"I don't ever have time to be.  It's like once I signed with my label, I had to grow up fast," he said with a tinge of sadness in his voice.

"That's not very fair to you.  You could take days off you know?  You don't always have to be so serious about everything." I reasoned with him.

"I've tried.  But anytime I go anywhere the paparazzi always find me and then I have to be him again, Sebastian Jennings, superstar.  I can't just be Bastian, the little kid from Sacramento who likes to sing and play guitar."

"Well then, Bastian, I think we have a mission."

"And what kind of mission is that?" he asked me in all seriousness.

I wanted to help him.  I'd completely forgotten about our fight since he'd saved me from he situation with Dylan.  It made me want to help him.

"We are going to make sure that you have an entire day to yourself.  The paparazzi won't be able to get a break all day, we'll keep them on their toes.  First, I want you to tweet that you're somewhere that you're actually not the entire day.  Then we can basically go wherever we want and they shouldn't be able to find you."

He stopped pushing me.

"That's brilliant!" he exclaimed, pushing me a lot harder than he had before.

I screamed and flailed my arms out, terrified that the swing would break because of how high he'd pushed me.

"Sorry," he said, grabbing the chains and slowing us down to a halt.

He came around the other side of me and stood very close to me, his mouth holding a smirk that showed me that he was feeling cocky about something.

"What?" I asked him, looking up into his eyes coyly.

"Nothing, you just surprised me, that's all."

"Surprised you?  How so?"

"Well, I accidentally kidnap you.  You know how to change a tire, you're unlike any girl I've ever met, it's like you don't even care that I'm famous.  Then we had that fight and I was sure you'd never want to speak to me again, so I decided to just leave you alone.  But then I see you again at your school and you'd just kicked this dude in the balls and that was awesome to be honest.  And now this, I just, I really underestimated you I guess."

I wasn't expecting that.

I skidded my feet against the ground and stood up from the swing.

"Wow.  Well, umm. Thanks I guess.  Was that an apology for suggesting that I was some trollop who only wanted fifteen minutes of fame by selling a story to the tabloids?" I asked him sarcastically and his face fell immediately.

"I really am sorry about that Holly.  You have to realize, the way I've been treated since all of this began, its overwhelming.  I never know what people really want from me, you know?"

His eyes stared deep into mine, and I really wanted to lift up on my toes and press my lips to his.  But then I shook my head and cleared my thoughts.  He probably didn't even see me in that way.

"Well thank you.  I forgive you.  Now come on, we have an ordinary day to plan out for a not so ordinary man."
