Baby's First Party

{TBH this chapter could have been better if I wasn't getting flashbacks to things I've done at parties. I swear nothing in this chapter is things I've done in real life 👀}

My dad took me to run some errands with him. We also went out for food. I know it sounds boring but I love spending time with him. Besides, I have a party tonight and a concert tomorrow. I'm a very busy woman.

Shit, I forgot to ask him about that party. "Hey dad"

We are currently sitting in the car. He is driving us back home from the restaurant. He goes "Hum"

"Could I go to a party tonight?" I ask.

"Who's party"

"My friend Alyssa. You've met her she is the girl with the pink hair"

"Who's going"

"Casey is going to pick me up and we're gonna pick Jessie, mom's boyfriend's daughter up on the way." I never found out if Jessie is coming or not. "Elle will be there with her boyfriend." I don't actually know if he is officially her boyfriend. I'll have to get updates tonight. "Then just a bunch of other people from my school"

"Yes, but I will drive the three of you there and pick you up. I don't want any drinking and driving" He says. He used to be a cop. I'm sure he has dealt with a lot of drunk teenagers. "Thank you"

Once I get home I text Jessie

hey did you ask your dad about the party

Jessie:

He said yes

Jessie:

What time does it start?

it starts at 8 we'll pick you up at 8:15

Jessie:

I'll see you then

I scroll through Instagram for a bit. I start getting ready about an hour later. I applied my everyday make-up. I get that I haven't seen these people in a few weeks but I don't have anyone to impress tonight except one person. He has seen me naked, I'm not too worried.

Casey gets here right at eight o'clock like he said he would. He looked as cute as ever tonight. He was wearing... My dad drove us to my mom's house to get Jessie. I sent her a text letting her know we were here and she walked out less than 30 seconds later. I was not going into that house. I was on break from everyone, except for Jessie.

Not gonna lie it was kind of awkward being in the car with my dad and the daughter of the man his wife had an affair with. He wasn't awkward though. He was talking to Jessie like we weren't even here. "So what's new york like? I haven't been in years."

"It's good. I miss it but I'll be back next week" She says.

"That's nice to hear. Harper is going to be so lonely" He says.

"She has me" Casey says.

My dad ignored him. I laughed quietly. "Dad, you should let me go with her"

"Your mother would never let you" He says.

"It's worth a try" I say.

We arrive at Alyssa's house, fashionably late obviously. We walk in through the gate to the backyard. The music is blaring, there are people everywhere inside and out. The lights in the house were turned down low and some colored lights were flashing in beat with the music. Alyssa knows how to throw a party.

Almost immediately Casey sees some of his friends and is taken who knows where. "Come with me. We'll go get drinks" I say and grab her hand. We push our way through the crowd, I am leading the way. We go to the drink table and I see Elle standing there with her boyfriend who may not be her boyfriend, Adrian.

Elle comes right up to me and hugs me, "I haven't seen you in so long!"

"I know!" We have so much to catch up on" I hug her back

She pulls away, "How's the mother and her boyfriend? Are the kids annoying the ever-living shit out of you?"

"One of the kids is right here" I point behind me to Jessie.

"Oh my god I am so sorry. Bad first impression" Elle says to her.

"It's fine she has made her hatred for my dad very known"

Elle laughs. "Oh, I know. What do you two want to drink?"

"I don't think she's ever drunk before," I say.

"We are going to have to change that. Follow me, Alyssa showed me where the good stuff is"

The table was full of Smirnoff Ices and White Claws. There was a drink dispenser with some type of jungle juice, that will be out in 10 minutes tops. We follow Elle through the house out to the garage. There was a fridge in there. She pours us mixed drinks and hands them to us. I want to say it is vodka mixed with cranberry juice. I take a sip. It was strong, definitely an Elle-made drink. I watch Jessie take a sip and she makes a face. It was cute.

We head back inside but lose Elle to a crowd of girls.

"Didn't like the drink?" I ask. I am leading us to two open chairs across the kitchen.

"It tastes like what a doctor's office smells like"

I laugh. "You'll get used to it. Whenever you want to leave just let me know"

"I'm chilling"

I finished my drink a lot faster than I should have. Jessie was slowly sipping hers. I bring her back into the garage to get a second one then decide it is time for us to mix and mingle in the backyard. There has to be at least one girl here for Jessie.

On the way out I run into Alyssa. "Hey" I say

"Hey. She says back. "Having fun?"

"So much. Thanks for hosting"

"My parents are out of town. I had to take advantage"

"I would totally do the same" She looks to Jessie. "This is Jessie, my mom's boyfriend's daughter"

"It's so nice to meet you. Harper has told me so much about you." That was a total lie.

"It's nice to meet you too"

"I'll see you all later" Alyssa says and walks away.

I'm gonna be honest, I already finished my drink by the end of that conversation. I'm going to go take it slow with one of those white claws now. We go back to the drink table and I grab one then go to find Casey.

He was playing beer pong with a few of his buddies. They start going nuts when I get there saying stuff like "Casey's girlfriend found him" or "Casey's going to have to forfeit".

"Calm down he can stay" I say. I kiss him on the cheek. You should have heard their reactions then. I lean on his arm while he waits for his turn. I look at Jessie, she looks so out of place. I couldn't tell if she wanted to go home or not. If she wanted to, she would tell me.

Once it's Casey's turn I pick my head up off of him. "Back up" he says and I do as told. "A little more" He sounds like such an asshole. I grab Jessie's hand and decide we are backing up all the way back into the house.

I grab another drink from the table on the way in. I would have preferred jungle juice but it was empty. Jessie finally finished her drink and grabbed another one too.

I run into a couple more of my friends and we stand and make small talk for a while. Typical stuff like how's your summer, any upcoming trips, stuff like that. I introduced them to Jessie. I didn't realize I never dropped her hand.

Once they walk away I turn to her. "Alright I need to sit for a second"

"Me too"

I see Elle and she is finally not attached to Adrian at the hip. I can finally get the tea.

"Hey girlie" I go up to her and say. Jessie was right behind me practically attached to my hip.

"Hi hun" She says back.

"How are things going with him" I ask.

"Eh. He's kind of mid but it is entertaining me so I don't care" She says. Jessie and I both laugh. The rest of the night is kind of a blur. I know I was talking with my two other friends, Violet and Delilah. Then I maybe played a game of beer pong with Jessie, Casey, and Elle. I think Jessie and I lost. Then I vaguely remember trying to get Jessie to flirt with some guy who doesn't go to my school. Then I told him he sucks because let's be honest he did. Not my finest moment. I don't know where Casey was for any of this. Probably with his little football bros.

Casey finally found me. I'm his ride home the least he can do is acknowledge my existence tonight. "Harper get up, give Jessie some room to breathe" I'm snuggled up into her on the couch right now. He tries to pull me off the couch by the hand.

"No, I am ok here. She is ok too" I sink deeper into the couch.

"I'm ok" She backs me up.

"Harper just get up" He says. Someone's jelly.

"I'm trying to bond with my future step sister" I drag my hand across the side of her face down to her chin. I felt her smile. That made me smile.

"I called your dad. He will be here in two"

"I could have called him" I say.

"Do you even know where your phone is right now?" He asks.

"Yes, it's right here"

I pick it up from in between Jessie and me. I check the time. Almost 3 am. Shit I need to get home for my 3 am talk with Jessie. I stand up and Jessie does the same. The room was spinning a bit. Jessie must have been able to tell because she interlocked her arm with mine. Casey starts walking out so we follow behind him. My dad was parked right out front. I get into the back seat with Jessie and make Casey sit in the front seat.

"You all smell like a brewery," He says when we get into the car.

"It means we had fun" I say and laugh.

Jessie buckles both of us in. I am now leaning against her arm. She is laying her head on mine.

"All three of you are going to your houses right?" He asks.

Jessie says yes.

"I think you should let me sleep over tonight" Casey says to him.

"No" My dad says to him.

"Why not?"

"We both know the answer to that"

"Yeah no he's not sleeping over" I say.

"You heard the boss" My dad says to him

"If only half make-out session were a sport" Jessie whispers in my ear. We both start cackling.

"Whats so funny?" Casey asks.

"None of your business" I say. "Oh my god dad. Can Jessie sleepover tonight?"

"I don't think that's a good idea" He says.

"I second that." Casey says.

"Shut up Casey" I say.

"Woah" Casey says.

"Ok you two stop talking to each other please" My dad says. I wonder if he feels like he has three kids right now.

"When I come back from my dad's on Monday we're going to have a sleepover in my room. It'll be so fun. We can watch movies and pop popcorn and that's all I got" I say to Jessie.

"That sounds so fun!" Jessie says.

"Alright, Jessie this is your stop" My dad stops the car.

"Let me walk you in" I say and unbuckle.

"She's fine" Casey says.

"My dad said not to talk to me"

I get out of the car. Jessie does the same. She says thank you to my dad and we walk up to the house. I punch in the door code. It took a couple of tries but I finally got it. I check my phone as i walk in. 3 am on the dot. Perfect timing.

"I hope my dad is lecturing Casey right now" I say and close the front door behind me.

"About what?" She asks.

"He was such an asshole tonight and couldn't even stop in front of my father" I say. We start walking up the stairs.

"Hold the railing please. I don't want you to fall" She says so I do. "I'm sure it'll all be ok by tomorrow"

I pull her into my room and close the door. "Let's talk about the real reason he was a asshole." I say and grab both her hands. I swing them back and forth just a little bit. "He was clearly jealous of you"

"No, he wasn't. Why would he be jealous of me"

"We both know why"

I pull her closer to me. I start to lean in for a kiss when she pulls her hands out of mine and steps back. Her face turned a little red.

"Harper, you're drunk and you have a boyfriend"

"No I'm not and not for long."

"That kiss the other night was an accident"

"Are you drunk?" I ask. How could she call it an accident?

"Tipsy" She says. "We'll talk in the morning. Your dad is waiting"

"Ok fine" I say and open my door. She walks out first and I follow behind her. "I love you" I say to her right before she opens the door to her room.

"I love you too"
