I Thought You'd Never Ask

I'm getting serious 2017/2018 maybe even 2019 summer vibes at the moment and it just dawned on me I was releasing the original version on this story plus the two sequels those summers.}

My girl needs a break from life and the fair is in town. It sounds like the perfect opportunity to distract her from all her problems. Hopefully, she doesn't want to bring her kid brother.

I've been texting Elle all morning planning this date. She did so well the last time that I texted her for help again. She has it planned perfectly down to the minute. She has all the rides in order of what we should go on, what food we should get, and when and she is even planning on going with Alyssa to spy on us. The fair is about 15 minutes from my house so I will definitely run into someone I know. I'll cross that bridge when it happens though.

I haven't told Jessie where we're going yet. I'm gonna keep it a surprise. I at least know she isn't afraid of rides because of all the excitement surrounding our "family" Disney World trip next week.

Ok ok, I know what you all are thinking. So we go on dates, I kiss her, I hold her, I let her cry on my shoulder, I call her my girl. I never thought I should formally ask her to be my girl. I guess anyone in their first relationship would want a solidified date marking the beginning. That never occurred to me because I couldn't tell you when my anniversary with Casey would be. I will officially be asking Jessie to be my girlfriend tonight, on top of the Ferris Wheel, like all the good rom-coms do.

I get up from my bed and walk across the hall to her room. I knock and then open the door. She is lying on her side watching TikTok. Levi is nowhere to be found. I close the door behind me and crawl into her bed. I spoon her and rest my head on her shoulder.

"Hi love" She says.

"Hi" I say back. "Would you want to come somewhere with me?" I ask.

"Where?" She asks.

I can't risk her inviting Levi. "It's a surprise. We'll be outdoors. Dress cute"

"I always dress cute" She says.

"Be ready in 30" I say and sit up. I plant a small kiss on her cheek then go to my room to get ready.

We arrive at the fair and she is in awe. This is the happiest I've seen her in a while. I made sure to go out of the way to drive past the fair. I go around the corner to the parking lot.

"I'm so excited! I can't wait to go on the bumper cars" She exclaims.

I don't think bumper cars are on the list. "Me too"

We head over and I get us two tickets. I check the list without Jessie noticing. First is racing her on the slide, the rocketship, and then the drop tower. I'm going to flip out on the drop tower, anything for her though.

We grab the carpet things they make you sit on at the bottom of the stairs then walk up and wait for our turn.

"I'm gonna beat you," I say.

"In your dreams," She says back.

Once we reach the top, the attendant directs us on how to get on the mats. I look out over the fair since we are a good hundred feet in the air. You could see a decent chunk of it from here. I notice Alyssa and Elle at the bottom watching us. Elle waves to me. I wonder if she told Alyssa. The attendant does a countdown. We fly down the slide at the same time. She is using her arms to try and push herself down faster. It is slowing her down. I won the race. We return the mats and Elle and Alyssa have disappeared.

"Let's go to the rocket ship next," I say.

"I hope we get the back," She says.

The rocket ship is your typical pendulum ride. We wait in line again. We didn't get the backseat but second from the back isn't bad. We slightly lifted out of the seat though.

Next up was the drop tower.

"I didn't take you as a heights girlie," She says.

"I'm not but I thought you would like it"

This ride always has the shortest line. Right now there happens to be no line. We get right on and the last person I want to see right now was already sitting next to the seat I was directed to sit in. You have to be fucking kidding me.

"Hi Harper," He says.

"Hello, Casey" He was with his asshole football friends.

After that, I turn my attention back to Jessie.

"I'm kinda nervous" I say.

"Don't be." She says.

The ride starts and we go up slowly. I look out and you can see the entire fair from here. The slide has nothing on this ride. Once we start reaching the top I turn to Jessie.

"Hold my hand"

"I thought you'd never ask," Casey says and grabs my hand.

"Ew not you" I pull my hand out of his.

I grab Jessie's hand that was waiting for me and the second I do the ride drops. It lasted for about 30 seconds. Longer than Casey. The wind going up my nose was not a pleasant feeling.

I keep holding Jessie's hand as we exit the ride. I practically run off dragging her behind me.

"That was so awkward" I laugh once we can walk.

"I hope I never have to see him again," She says.

"I wish I could say the same but I know I will be seeing him in school"

I check the list again but also text Elle to tell her what had just happened. Next up is the tea cups. Only two more rides until the Ferris Wheel.

We spin each other as fast as we can go on the tea cups. We make the 5-year-olds next to us look weak. They can barely spin the thing. The parents of those 5-year-olds see us and ask if we can take them on it to spin them. We agree so we go on twice, slower the second time though.

Next up was supposed to be the carousel but I didn't want to get roped into taking some other child on it and we are already breaking from the schedule. So I take her to the bumper cars since that's what she really wants. We get into the same car. She insists on being the driver since I always drive her around everywhere. It is amazing getting to crash into children after being suckered into going on the tea cups with them. Its the closest thing to revenge that I'll get.

Finally, it is time for the Ferris Wheel. I've been waiting all night for this.

We get in and we are the only two in the cart. I try to make some small talk.

"Have you ever been on one of these before?" I ask.

"No"

"What?" How?" I question

"I'm kidding. I've been on them hundreds of times"

"I was about to say" I need to stop stalling and just ask her.

"Harper, I've been meaning to talk to you" She says.

My heart sinks. She is going to call the "thing" we have off. Thank god she is before I embarrass myself by asking her.

I try to act calm, my heart is beating out of my chest though. "What's up?"

"Well I know we would have to keep this a secret from our parents and there is probably an expiration date hanging above our heads" This is it, it's over. It's been a good run. I'll be finding some other underage girl with a fake in a bar in Orlando next week. "But I was wondering if you want to be my girlfriend"

"Holy Shit! I thought you'd never ask!" I say. I actually thought she was breaking up with me 2 seconds ago.

She pulls me in for a kiss at the very top of this Ferris Wheel. The picture-perfect lesbian rom-com moment has been perfected. I almost wish I asked first though.
