Chapter 52

Famous Last Words

Step Sisters (girlxgirl)

{I don't know if we've talked about this show yet but has anyway I watched I kissed a girl. Basically the lesbian love island. I'm assuming, I've never seen love island. I need some not straight people to talk about this show with.}

"Good morning," I say when she stirs in my arms. It's late. Almost 1 o'clock but we didn't go to sleep until almost 5 am.

"Good morning," She says back.

I barely slept last night. I think I slept for maybe an hour tops. She slept all night though.

"How are you feeling?" I ask.

"I'm fine right now. I'm sure my dad will be mad at me but I'll deal with that when I need to" She says.

"I'm sure he did worse as a teenager," I say. I'm just trying to make her feel better, but this is bad, really bad. "So what happened here last night? How did you end up staying?"

"Your mom came in to check on us. I was absolutely hysterical. Levi was upset too. I was just lying in bed. He was actually packing. She comforted us for a few minutes, mostly Levi but then she went back to her room to try and work something out with my dad. It took her a while to convince him but eventually, he budged and said I could stay but Levi is still going with him" She says.

My mom must have heard us talking. She knocks on my door. I don't even get a second to respond to Jessie. We quickly move away from each other so I'm not holding her anymore. "Come in" I yell.

"Good morning," She says as she walks in. We both say good morning back. "I just wanted to fill you in after last night. Collin and I did break up. It wasn't because of anything you two did. I wasn't staying with anyone that talks about Harper the way he did, especially to your face. He said he wasn't staying with me after finding out about the two of you so I guess it was mutual" She says.

"Are you ok?" I ask.

She didn't show an ounce of sadness over the divorce. She was excited about her newfound freedom. She was flying out to his house every chance she got, leaving me here alone. She is real luckily I didn't end up a pregnant teenager.

"Eh, I'll be fine." She shrugs her shoulders. "Well, I am going to go make breakfast. I'll leave some money on the counter and you two can go out and get coffee or something" She says.

"Thanks, Mom," I say.

"Thanks, Diana," Jessie says.

She stands up to walk out but stops in the doorway.

"By the way. I like the two of you together. You should stay together longer than the next 5 days" She says and leaves the room.

"Did she just?" I ask.

"I can't believe she approves," Jessie says.

"Alright let's go get those coffees and we're picking Elle up on the way. We need to tell her everything" I say.

I text Elle to be ready in 15. We quickly get dressed and leave the house. I looked a little more presentable than she did. I was wearing a crop top and shorts while she was in sweats and a baggy t-shirt. I guess I get it, she's nervous about whatever happens next with her dad. She probably isn't focused on anything but that. Me, on the other hand, I couldn't care less about disappointing my parents and I already know my mother approves.

"Alright, what are the new plans for after you leave?" I ask as I start driving.

"Let's not talk about that right now." She says.

Is she actually going to go through with breaking up after this summer now that our parents aren't together? She was upset last night over it before Collin ruined everything.

The rest of the car ride we didn't speak. The only noise was coming out of the radio. We get to Elle's house and she is cheery and happy this morning.

"Hi girlies," She says as she gets into the back seat.

"Hey," I say.

"Hi," Jessie says back, with no emotion.

"What happened to you two? You look like you were hit by a bus" Elle says.

"It was actually an 18-wheeler driven by my mother's homewrecker boyfriend," I say.

"That's still my father," Jessie says.

"And my girlfriend's father" I start driving away from her house. "We have a lot to catch up on"

We arrive at the coffee shop. It is a quick drive from Elle's house. We used to walk here all the time before getting our licenses. We go inside and order our coffees before finding a little table in the back.

"Ok so, long story short. Collin has been suspicious of our relationship for a while now. He's brought it up to my mom countless times and she just brushed it off as us being friends. Anyway, they came home and we were cuddled up on the couch and that was ya know a small ordeal. They didn't say anything to us but we heard them talking about it. We decided to just lay low. Do you remember that old treehouse in my backyard?" Elle nods. "We decided that we would just meet up in there and hang out late at night to you know not get caught. We came back into the house around 4 am and we were in our own little world and Jessie kissed me. Turns out Collin was standing in the kitchen and saw and that started a fight between everyone" I say.

Jessie takes over the rest of the story. "My dad was pissed, to say the least. He started fighting with Diana about Harpers... behavior we'll just say"

"He basically called me a disrespectful little brat and blamed my mom for it" I add.

"Who the fuck would say that to Queen Diana? She is an absolute icon" Elle says.

"You don't have to live with her," I say.

"Anyway, to finish this off. They broke up and my dad went to his parent's house with Levi." Jessie says.

"And he just left you?" Elle questions.

"My mom convinced him to," I say.

"Wait so this means you two can be together forever now" Elle gets excited.

I turn to Jessie to let her answer. "Yeah we didn't get that far yet"

"I know we don't know each other very well but I'm gonna give you a little piece of advice. Don't worry about your father not approving of your relationship. He'll get over it eventually"

Jessie just shrugs her shoulders.

We finish our coffees and head out.

"Would you be able to drop me off at my grandparents?" Jessie asks as we get in the car.

"Are you sure?" I ask.

"Yeah. I just need to get it over with" She says.

"Ok"

I start driving to her grandparents. Again the car ride was quiet. It doesn't take long to get to her grandparents. All of us get out of the car but Elle and I weren't going in.

I give Jessie a tight hug. "If you need anything just call me, I can be here in two minutes," I say.

"Thank you," She says.

"Text me everything that happens," I say.

"I will. I love you. I'll probably see you tomorrow"

"I love you too"

Elle says bye to her and she heads inside. We get back into the car.

"Well, I better see her again before she goes home," I say.

"Dude, what was up with her? I get she had a rough night but to not confirm you two are staying together after this summer is crazy." Elle says.

"I have no idea. We'll be fine. She probably just needs a break."

"Famous last words."

"Want to come hangout at my house?" I ask.

"Sure"

We head back at my house. We go inside and my mom is sitting on the couch watching some reality show. I bet our lives this summer would make a great reality TV show.

We all say hi then Elle and I sit in the living room with her.

"I heard about Collin" Elle says. I shoot her a what the fuck look.

"Oh my god. Can you believe him? Such an asshole" My mom says.

"I can't believe he would say that about you two," She says.

"Oh well. There's plenty of fish in the sea" She says.

I can't believe she isn't phased over this. They were dating for over a year. Not like they saw each other much but still.

Elle and I go to my room after a little more gossiping with my mom. We hang out and chill for a bit before I drive her home. I don't hear from Jessie for the rest of the day but I'm not too worried. She'll text me when she's ready.
