154 154. Motherâs Anger
Claraâs face paled at the sound of her fatherâs name being called. That was bad! Samuelâs mother recognized her well. So fast as if without a pause.
Thereâs no point in hiding her identity. Clara nodded slowly. She looked at Larissa with a confused feeling.
Clara tried to stay calm. She tried to convince herself that she was not a young girl six years ago who was afraid that her identity would be exposed when she was away from her parents supervision.
Meanwhile, Larissa remembered that soon the daughter of the Decker family would get married. Who else if not Clara? Because they only have one daughter.
âSam, can I talk to you for a minute?â she asked. She then turned to Clara, excusing herself for a second.
âI will goââ
âI donât want to keep anything secret from you. You can stay here,â Samuel said, holding Claraâs hand, preventing her from leaving.
Larisa sighed. She knew that Samuel was a free person and very hard to control. This was because Thomas spoiled him since childhood, as a form of guilt. However, the impact was very bad. Samuel didnât even hesitate to pester married women like Paula and now ⦠Clara.
âDid you realize that Clara is getting married soon?â Larissa asked Samuel. âDidnât you see the ring on her finger?â
.....
âIâm not drunk. I am fully aware,â Samuel answered confidently.
âThen why are you doing this?â Larissa snapped. âWasnât it enough for your last lesson? You almost ruined your own cousinâs marriage.â
âThis is different, Mom,â replied Samuel flatly.
âStill this is not acceptable. Can you say that having an affair is a natural thing?â snapped Larissa, annoyed. Her breath hitched, looking at Samuel.
âMaâam, Samuel didnât force me. I agreed to do it, I know what the risks are,â Clara defended Samuel. âDonât judge if you donât know what really happened!â
âWhat did you say?â shouted Larissa.
âDo you think I am a childish girl who has fun freely before marriage because she wants to enjoy her bachelorette sex party?â Clara argued again. âI did six years ago. But now itâs different. Thatâs not the only reason!â
Claraâs tears started to well up in her eyes. She didnât want to be told like that by Larissa. All this happened not because of the actions of one person. She agreed in full sobriety.
âMom, she has reasons!â defended Samuel.
âWhatever the reason, intentional or unintentional, cheating is not right. You can only have sex with a woman who is not bound by any commitment to another man,â Larissa snapped again to Samuel. This time her anger could not be contained. âI asked her to leave. But you got in the way, Sam! Itâs not my fault that Clara is offended.â
Suddenly, Larissa felt weak. She almost toppled over and fell if Samuel didnât support her body.
âMom!â Sam panicked.
âBring her to bed ⦠oh ⦠couch is fine!â Clara ordered.
Samuel then took his mother to the couch and leaned her back against the couch in Claraâs direction. They couldnât possibly use a dirty bed to lay Larissa there.
Clara checked Larissaâs pulse to make sure she was okay. Samuel brought a glass of water for his mother, giving it slowly to her.
âMom, are you okay?â asked Samuel with a pale face. He felt guilty for making his mother sick with anger.
âIâll call an ambulance,â Clara said, feeling uncomfortable.
âNo need, Iâm fine,â prevented Larissa. âIâm probably just tired from the trip.â
Clara then sat down beside Larissa to check on her condition once again. After confirming that Samuelâs mother was indeed okay, her face showed relief.
âMaâam, you need to calm down,â Clara said. She looked calm, not panicked like before. âIf there are complaints in the future, make sure you take them to the hospital for a more thorough examination,â she added while giving several suggestions to Samuel.
âDoes your mother often experience things like this?â Clara asked again.
âNot really. Even if it happens, itâs usually when she turned out to be pregnant again,â said Samuel while reminiscing.
Clara felt hurt. Her face looked sad. In this world, some people get pregnant very easily. But some cannot have children like her.
âYouâre daydreaming,â commented Samuel as he patted Claraâs shoulder.
âAh, sorry!â Clara replied with a jolt.
âMom, are you pregnant again?â Samuel asked his mother. Meanwhile, Larissa was feeling better, pinching Samuelâs cheek hard.
âDid you think I would get pregnant again after having eight rascals?â Larissa reprimanded Samuel, annoyed.
âDad told me he doesnât want to stop impregnating you?â argued Samuel, inviting his mother to protest again.
Clara could only look at the mother and son in front of her with a smile of envy. She swallowed heavily, enduring the pain in her chest.
âCall your father for me,â Larissa asked Samuel.
Samuel then immediately left the room to call Thomas, leaving Clara and Larissa alone. Clara knew that Larissa had no intention of calling her husband at all. He knew that Samuelâs mother wanted to talk to him privately.
âClara, I know, I am no one to you,â said Larissa. âIâm sorry, I just donât want Samuel to get himself into trouble again.â
Clara who sat pensively could only nod. âI understand.â
Larisa shook her head. âForgive me. I donât intend to judge. I know you have your reasons. However, I just want to remind you. Itâs not good to let a problem and misunderstanding drag on.â
Clara just looked at Samuelâs mother with a regretful look.
Larissa stroked Claraâs hair affectionately, then said, âI will of course keep this a secret from your family. However, I hope you have the courage to make decisions responsibly. If you intend to take a relationship with commitment, take it. If you canât for any reason, you know best.â
Claraâs tears fell slowly. Larissa opened her arms to hug Clara. Moments later, only Claraâs sobs could be heard in the room. She cried in Larissaâs arms, shedding all the sadness she had been holding back for so long.
