Billionaires with Benefits
156 156. Her Decision
Larissa could only look at Clara and Samuel with tears in her heart. She leaned her head against her husbandâs chest, shedding tears helplessly. Thomas rubbed his wifeâs back, trying to calm her down.
âThe path of love will be different. Just pray for their good,â said Thomas. âDonât you remember that our journey was not smooth either?â
Larisa just nodded. She knew what her husband said was true, but she knew Claraâs burden must be heavy. She realized the girl had other burdens that she couldnât tell anyone about.
Meanwhile, Clara crumpled the handkerchief in her hand. âThank you. I didnât expect you to still have it,â Clara said in a trembling voice, without looking at Samuel. Tears seeped into her lips, making her taste her salty tears.
âMaybe, in my heart I had hoped to meet that handkerchief owner again. However, my ego prevented me from looking for her,â answered Samuel, smiling bitterly.
âWow, but you still keep it,â Clara said, forcing a smile.
âCoincidentally, fate made me meet her again,â replied Samuel, swallowing the tightness in his chest.
Clara nodded. Her heart was being squeezed hard. All this time, she had always convinced herself that her meeting with Samuel was just a coincidence. However, there was something inside her that denied it. Thatâs not a coincidence at all.
âWise people say nothing happens by chance in this world,â Clara muttered, âunfortunately, Iâm not one.â
.....
Silence stretched between them. For so long, no one spoke. Samuel then opened the car door for Clara. The driver then drove her immediately to the hospital, as requested.
Along the way, Clara just cried silently. She crumpled the handkerchief in her hand as she recalled about the past. The time when she met Samuel for the first time, six years ago.
He was so heroic and charming. He made her feel happy even though it was her first time.
Clara imagined what would have happened if she had chosen to date Samuel. Would she be Samuelâs wife this time? Would they still be together? Or did their relationship break as time passed?
If she chose Samuel, surely she wouldnât experience a betrayal from Dave. However, who can guarantee that Samuel would be a lover who would always be loyal to her? Likewise with her. Who would guarantee that she would not betray him?
If she thought about it, no one knows the future. She and Dave used to be inseparable lovers. No one thought that they would experience something bitter like this with Dave. She never thought her fiance would sleep with another girl.
So did her last night. She had consciously slept with another man. Soberly, she had sex with Samuel many times. She consciously avenged Dave for what he did, without feeling guilty about it.
Instead of wanting to apologize, Claraâs desire to let go of Dave just got bigger. Her desire to leave her marriage was getting higher. She wanted to meet Dave at this time and tell him all theabout obstacles in her heart.
âCould you drop me off at another place?â Clara asked the driver when they almost reached the hospital.
The driver nodded, then he asked about Claraâs other destination. The driver quickly took a U-turn and changed direction towards Daveâs office.
This time, Clara had made up her mind. She must talk to Dave. It was never too late to solve a problem before it dragged on.
It was true what Samuelâs mother said, what she did last night was still not right because she was still engaged to Dave. Moreover, she would soon get married to her fiancée.
If she had made a commitment, she must maintain it. It was not permissible to violate her commitment. It was a form of adult responsibility. If she couldnât go on any longer, she should talk about her problem well.
Dave had a right to know about this. Just as he confessed to her, she must have the courage to tell him the truth.
Not long after, the car that Clara was riding in stopped at a skyscraper, where Daveâs office was located. She thanked the driver and strode resolutely into her fiancéâs office.
All of Daveâs employees greeted her with a smile. They all knew her well.
âIs Dave busy?â Clara asked Theresa, the secretary. âI didnât make any appointment.â
âYou know my boss is never busy when youâre around,â Theresa said with a friendly smile. Thereâs nothing wrong with fawning over her bossâs future wife.
Clara then walked into Daveâs office after Theresa called in. The man, with a tired and preoccupied face, forced a smile on his future wife.
âBaby, are you okay?â he asked with a smile that he made as cute as possible. However, Clara knew very well that it was not Daveâs usual smile. How could a father smile when he realized his future baby was in danger?
âOf course, Iâm fine.â
âI looked for you last night at the hospital because you said youâd be staying there all night,â Dave said. âYour phone is unreachable. So, Iâm worried.â
Clara smiled. She knew the old Dave would panic and search the whole town if he lost track of her.
âYou didnât ask my parents?â she asked. Her face didnât smile at all. Very serious and tense. But Dave still hasnât gotten a clue as to what happened to his fiancé.
âIâve tried calling your house but the maid said theyâre not on the line,â Dave replied flatly. âSomething happened?â
Clara nodded with a faint smile. It was sad to say the truth but she determined to say it to him. She then said in a bland voice, âI turned off my phone last night because I was staying over at another manâs place.â
Dave was flabbergasted. He didnât expect Clara would say something like that. âWhat do you mean, baby? I heard it wrong, no? You ⦠what?â
Clara sighed. She stared at him with a sad look, and repeated what she said earlier, âLast night, I slept with another man.â
