Chapter 166 - 166 166. Clara’s Fight
Billionaires with Benefits
166 166. Claraâs Fight
Doctor Evans was flabbergasted to find a patient who came to her. The young woman she treated six years ago. Sheâs Patrickâs daughter. She shouldnât have come for a pregnancy check-up.
âClara?â The doctor swallowed hard. âSit down.â
Clara nodded, then sat down in the chair provided. Her eyes didnât blink, looking at the old woman who had taken care of her six years ago.
âThis clinic ⦠is very crowded,â Clara commented with a smile.
âThank you,â replied Doctor Evans.
âYou must be a great doctor, right? Considering that this clinic has only been open for six years,â Clara answered while admiring Doctor Evansâ clinic.
Doctor Evans smiled wryly. She felt that Claraâs visit this time was not for a mere consultation.
âThank you. Itâs all just a coincidence,â answered doctor Evans awkwardly. âOh yes. You didnât fill out the questionnaire. You may explain your health condition now.â
Clara chuckled at Doctor Evansâ question. She looked down, then narrowed her eyes.
.....
âThatâs great, you know right away that Iâm not pregnant,â Clara commented sarcastically. âCan a doctor be a psychic?â
Doctor Evansâ face stiffened for a moment. However, she tried to remain calm and polite.
âI just want to know what your problem is. Not all patients come here because they are pregnant,â replied Doctor Evans. A forced smile plastered awkwardly on her face.
Clara nodded, understanding that it was true. She then leaned back against the back of the chair.
âI checked my fertility and it was stated that I couldnât get pregnant,â Clara answered slowly, looking at doctor Evans without blinking a single glance.
Clara then took something from her bag and pulled out a white envelope with the sign Linda Decker hospital on it. âHere are the results of the examination,â Clara said, handing the paper to doctor Evans.
Doctor Evans managed to meet Claraâs sharp gaze as if he didnât know anything about it. âI ⦠feel sorry for that.â
Clara nodded slowly. âThatâs true. Iâm very sad about this,â Clara answered with a straight face.
âShouldnât you consult with a doctor at the same hospital? Or are you looking for a second opinion?â Doctor Evans asked calmly.
Clara closed her eyes for a few seconds, impressed by the reaction of Doctor Evans, who was so good at hiding facts. She then opened her eyes again, looking at doctor Evans with concern.
âWhy do you say it as if you donât know anything about my infertility?â asked Clara with tears in her eyes. She studied the look on the female doctorâs face in dismay.
Doctor Evans hid her surprise with a calm face. He looked away for a moment, filling her lungs with air, hoping that the oxygen would be a source of strength for her.
Then, the doctor looked at Clara again and asked, âSo ... youâve heard everything from Patrick?â
Clara sighed, her brows furrowed. âYes. And it was very surprising because my father said that I had been pregnant and had a miscarriage six years ago.â
Doctor Evans kept trying to stay calm even though her heart was beating erratically. She was afraid that Patrick had told her everything, or worse, he was telling Clara lies and slandering her alone.
âIs that true? Or is it just Patrickâs story?â Clara asked Doctor Evans again in a sharp voice.
Doctor Evansâ aged face changed for a moment. Even if it was only for seconds, Clara could see the anxiety flashing there. Anxiety on a face was far more honest than the lips.
âRight. You⦠have indeed had a miscarriage,â answered Doctor Evans. Her heart was beating so fast. She gulped, out of worry.
Clara nodded, then asked again. âCan you tell me everything?â Clara asked again.
Hearing Claraâs last question, Doctor Evans did not immediately answer. She knew Clara would only equate Patrickâs story with her story. If something went wrong, Clara would know right away that she had been deceived.
Meanwhile, Clara begins to understand whatâs going on in Doctor Evansâ head. She knew that the female doctor was hiding something with her father.
âAs I thought, you donât want to say it, do you?â Clara said sarcastically. âThat means, you and my father are liars.â
âClara!â
âWhat happens if the public finds out about your behavior?â Clara asked again. âIâm sure your famous clinic will be closed soon.â
Doctor Evansâ heart skipped a beat. She glared at her visitors in disbelief. However, not long after, a nurse entered the room and whispered that another patient was waiting outside. The patient had already made an appointment.
âClara, I still have a patient waiting. How about we continue another time?â Doctor Evans offered, feeling helped by the new patient.
Clara snorted in annoyance. She purposely took the last line, close to the closing time of Doctor Evansâ clinic so that her important conversation would not be disturbed.
âCanât your patient wait? You can give other compensation to him or her, canât you?â Clara asked, annoyed. She didnât want Doctor Evans to have a chance to contact her father. She could fail to get proof of Doctor Evansâ conspiracy with her father.
âClara, arenât you a doctor yourself? I appreciate the punctuality in my clinic. So, you shouldnât ask me unreasonable things.â Doctor Evans argued. She didnât want Clara to force her to tell everything that happened six years ago. Those were all criminal acts. However, she was forced to do so because of Patrickâs request.
Perhaps, threats would be more appropriate to call what Patrick was doing at that time. He had forced her to do an abortion for Clara in secret.
Then, why now stupidly did the man tell his daughter about the unwanted pregnancy? Why couldnât that damn man just shut his mouth so that Clara wouldnât bring this up and seek justice for her and for the baby who never got the chance to be born?
âClara, my patient is very important. Sheâs the one who helped me set up this clinic. So, if you can postpone this matter, we can talk about it some other time,â asked Doctor Evans, pleadingly.
After she did that terrible thing to Clara, Doctor Evans received a very large sum of money from Patrick. However, she felt guilty and refused his hush money.
The ten million dollars Patrick was offering were too tempting to accept. However, she chose to reject it. She even chose to resign from the Linda Decker hospital because she felt so guilty for Linda and Clara.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Luckily, after leaving the Linda Decker hospital, Doctor Evans met Thomas Montgomery. The man felt indebted to doctor Evans who had saved Samuelâs birth. Thomas felt guilty for not waiting for Samuelâs difficult birth. Larissa almost lost her life and her baby.
Hearing Larissaâs story about Doctor Evans, Thomas thought she was the savior of the family. Samuel was born safely, and so was Larissa. He often gave doctor Evans many expensive gifts.
Because Larissa trusted Doctor Evans, she never went to another doctor. All the children were treated and born with the help of doctor Evans.
After finding that Doctor Evans left the hospital, Thomas then made a clinic for her. He was also the one who helped with the clinicâs promotion.
Doctor Evansâ life was so peaceful. She could forget the pressure of her guilt. She never thought that in the end, Clara would still know and sue her.
âClara, please. I can schedule time with you for the weekend.â Doctor Evans begged. She wanted to escape from Claraâs questions and at the same time she wanted to take care of her important patient.
âOh, so you do want to avoid me, donât you?â Clara was getting impatient. âOkay, then, I just want to ask for two minutes. Iâm only asking you to answer one question.â
Doctor Evans sighed exasperatedly. She was forced to accept Claraâs request. âOkay! Whatâs that?â
âI didnât have a miscarriage, did I?â Clara asked then. âYou aborted my baby, right?â
Doctor Evansâ mouth opened. Her fears came true. Clara suspected that there was a conspiracy behind it.
âClara, pull yourself together, and donât assume!â Doctor Evans tried to calm Clara down. Clara was so freaked out. What should she do? Dealing with Claraâs anger first or running away immediately?
âI only accept yes or no answers. Arenât you in a hurry?â Clara demanded again. She glanced sharply at doctor Evans so that the woman would immediately confirm her assumptions.
âClara! It is not a simple question.â Doctor Evans approached Clara. Grabbing the young womanâs hand, politely asked her to leave. She squeezed Claraâs hand and said, âDarling, you know that I and Linda are so close. How could I intend to harm you? Why do you have bad thoughts like that?â
Clara burst out laughing at the doctorâs last statement. She then took something from her pocket. She opened her palm, displaying two pills that made the doctorâs eyes wide open.
Claraâs eyes widened and snapped at the doctor, âThis is what you gave me six years ago, isnât it?â
