167 167. Samuelâs Anxiety
Samuel checked his watch. He had been waiting for five minutes, but the nurse never called his motherâs name to enter Doctor Evansâ examination room.
âDo you want me to make coffee or tea?â asked Samuel in a low voice, wiping the sweat off Larissaâs forehead. He was very worried that Larissa would faint like yesterday when Clara was at his house.
Larisa shook her head. âI can make my own.â She refused her sonâs tempting offer because she knew Samuel would worry if she couldnât do anything.
âDonât push yourself, mom!â said Samuel. He then made a warm drink for his mother.
Various types of tea were available in the waiting room at Doctor Evansâ clinic. Samuel then chose powdered matcha and mixed it with non-dairy creamer, knowing that Larissa liked it.
The aroma of matcha made by Samuel was very tempting, making Larissaâs eyes light up. âThank you, Sam! You always know how to lighten up my mood.â
Larissa enjoyed her sonâs tea with gratitude. They made small talk to kill time. However, they still had to keep waiting.
Samuel approached a nurse and said that he had made an appointment to visit his mother. However, he didnât know why he still had to wait a little longer.
âExcuse me. We have conveyed this to Doctor Evans, but she is still not done,â answered the nurse with the friendliest smile possible. âYou can wait in a comfortable place. Soon it will be over.â
.....
Suddenly, there was a scream from the examination room. Something that sounds like ... a miscarriage? Abortion? Or something. This made Samuel give in. The patient in Doctor Evansâ room must face a big problem. He had to endure the pain of waiting.
The jade-eyed man then chose to return to his mother who was waiting for him on the couch in the waiting room while reading a pregnancy magazine. Larissa was a patient person. She could wait for thirty minutes without the slightest protest.
Very different from Thomas. The man did not like to wait even for a few minutes. Samuel got his impatience from his father. He truly didnât like it when he made an appointment and still had to wait for a while. For him, it was very annoying. What was the point of making an appointment?
âMom, your face is so pale,â Samuel said worriedly. He rubbed his motherâs forehead which was sweating profusely. âMom, are you okay?â he asked again.
The handsome pianist had never seen his mother in this bad state. Larissa had been feeling unwell for a long time. However, she forced herself to act normally. Usually, she would come back well in no time.
The woman looked at her son who looked worried. She then threw a joke to him, âWhy did you take me to Doctor Evansâ clinic?â
âI told you, Iâm afraid that you will get pregnant like when you were pregnant with twins. You even realized it when she was two months old,â replied Samuel, frowning.
Larisa chuckled. How could she be pregnant, she was routinely taking pills. It was doubtful that she would get pregnant.
âSam, Iâm so happy to see you worrying about me,â said Larissa. âHowever, donât forget about yourself. Donât worry too much about me.â
He smiled. However, he was still worried because his motherâs pale face did not get better. He asked the nurse again.
Samuel protested to the nurse. âWhy is it so late? Itâs been ten minutes.â
âSorry, Doctor Evans is still not finished with the previous patient. Please wait a little longer. We have conveyed this to Doctor Evans,â replied the nurse. She felt bad because Evans did not usually keep patients waiting for so long.
Not long after, there was a sound of banging from Doctor Evansâ office, making Samuel and the nurse he asked frown. They exchanged uncomprehending glances.
âWhat exactly are they doing inside?â asked Samuel again with raised eyebrows. âIf theyâre wrestling, why do they have to do it in the clinic?â
The female nurse could only wince because she didnât know what was going on with the current patient. This made Samuel even more furious.
Meanwhile, in the examining room, Clara blocked the door so Doctor Evans couldnât run anywhere before answering her question. Her eyes bulged, looking at the doctor sharply. Her hand was still holding out two abortion pills to doctor Evans.
âYou made me take these two hell pills and said they were medicine to treat my nausea, didnât you?â Clara ranted, demanding the doctor impatiently.
âClaraââ
âI asked you! Just say yes or no!â snapped Clara. âWhatâs so difficult, doctor?â
Doctor Evansâ eyes no longer showed a calmness. Anxiety and anger were so vivid. A flash of guilt that had been buried for a long time, was now creeping back into her heart.
Her fears came true. Clara remembered the procedure she underwent when she was admitted to the hospital after fainting. With her current knowledge, Clara would have easily digested what happened back then.
How could Clara not be able to connect the separate puzzles? The current her would even be able to see the entire shape even if one or two puzzles were missing.
âClara, itâs not all like you think,â said doctor Evans later. âDonât jump to conclusions if you havenât confirmed what happened.ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
âYou did it to me, right? You aborted my baby, didnât you?â Clara snapped. Her sanity could no longer be maintained. Clara was furious and wanted an answer right away.
âClara! Donât accuse me like that! What is the proof that I did that?â asked doctor Evans in a rising voice. Her eyes widened, scolding Clara like she would someone who did something wrong on the street. âYouâre only wasting your time if all you do is whine and scream like a child who hasnât been given the toy she wants.â
âHow dare you dodge after everything I said was the truth,â Clara accused not wanting to give up. She shook the arm of the old doctor who refused to accept whatever she was accusing her of. âHow could you still intend to hide this matter from me? Iâm not that stupid girl six years ago that you could lie to like I used to.â
âClara! Stop it!â screamed doctor Evans who was starting to feel weak because Clara shook her so hard.
âAdmit what you did you damn old woman! You aborted my baby even though you knew that it was my first and last pregnancy!â The cries and screams had mixed. Clara could no longer be called sane.
The next second, a nurse came in with a panicked face. âDoctor, the patient has fainted!â
âLook, I donât have time!â said Doctor Evans. âGive me your contact, Iâll see you later.â
However, Clara continued to refuse. Doctor Evans called the staff to calm Clara down. Two nurses grabbed Claraâs arm and asked her to let Doctor Evans go.
âYou have killed my innocent baby! I should be able to have a child of my own! I shouldnât be called barren! I should live happily with my child,â Clara screamed again, struggling under the restraints of the nurses who held her tightly. âYou liar! You did give me the abortion pill, right?â
Clara could only watch the doctor walk away. She knew that the answer was yes. If not, Doctor Evans would have immediately said no. However, as a doctor, at this time she couldnât keep Doctor Evans from treating patients who needed help.
âI will not let you go, doctor!â answered Clara then. âI will force you to tell me the truth!â
However, when the unconscious patient was brought into the room, how shocked Clara was when she saw Samuel carrying Larissa. She was stunned. Her world stopped spinning. Her body suddenly stiffened when she saw him. The man ⦠was the father of her unborn baby. They should have had a child together.
âHelp my mom, doctor!â shouted Samuel frantically. His jade eyes caught a glimpse of a stunned Clara looking at him. He didnât have time to greet her because of his motherâs condition.
Doctor Evans showed him the ward and asked Samuel to lay his mother there. The female doctor then asked Samuel to wait outside.
âIâll check Larissaâs condition immediately,â Doctor Evans ordered. She then closed the curtain, assisted by a nurse, and immediately performed first aid on Larissa. âShe will be fine. Please wait patiently.â
Samuel was waiting anxiously. His mind was divided, between being worried about Larissa, but also curious about Clara. Why was she in Doctor Evansâ clinic in a such bad condition? Why did she mention some strange words? The baby? Infertility? A miscarriage?
Samuelâs mind was filled with images of Claraâs amber eyes holding anger and helplessness. She seemed to be asking for help, from no one. Feeling uneasy, the man then left the examination room to meet Clara. He had to make sure what happened to that woman.
He asked the nurses, âWhere is the lady in the white coat?â
