Chapter 149
Wife by Day Boss by Night ( (Natalie and Brian )
Chapter 149
Nate was gently roused from his sleep by the sound of hushed conversation. Blinking his eyes open, he called out softly, âDaddyâ¦â
Brianâs stern face softened, and he bent down, caressing Nateâs cheek, âIâm here, buddy.â
âWhereâs Natalie?â Nate looked around, not finding Natalie, and asked with a puzzled
expression.
âSheâs on set, filming.â Brian darkened his eyes again at the mention of Natalie.
A flicker of disappointment crossed Nate. When Natalie was here, Daddy was gone. Now that Daddy was back, she was out. The trip to the amusement park seemed to be off the table.
âFeeling okay? Tell Dad if youâre not,â Brian gently took Nateâs small hand in his own, asking
with concern.
âIâm fine.â Nate replied. Then he buried his face a few times in the spot where Natalie had slept the night before. It smelled good. Natalie always had this faint, pleasant scent that was just irresistible.
âNatalie slept with me last night,â Nate boasted proudly, âShe even scratched my back. It was so nice!â
Benjamin, who had keen eyes, noticed a faint red mark on the back of Nateâs neck.
He stepped forward, lifting Nateâs shirt to inspect his back. There were purplish spots along Nateâs spine. It looked like Natalie had been doing some therapy on him.
Considering Nate had a bit of a fever, he should have been feeling unwell all over, but since he claimed to feel fine, it was probably thanks to the cupping.
âDid you get all fired up this early in the morning because Natalie wasnât here?â Benjamin eyed Brianâs complex expression, probing him.
âThatâs where youâre wrong. Nate was running a fever, and she stayed with him, trying hard to make him comfortable. Just because her work took her away, you got angry. Isnât that a bit unreasonable?â
Even though Brian had always been somewhat unreasonable.
âThink about it, I told her to keep giving the kid his medicine without fail. I reckon she barely slept last night. Sheâ¦â
Before Benjamin could finish, Brian cut him off with a frown, âWhy do you talk so much?â
âFine, I have a big mouth,â Benjamin retorted, a little defeated.
Benjamin had seen enough to know Brian was just a heartless jerk!
As a family physician, a partâtime psychologist, and confidante to Brian, not to mention al

doting uncle to Nate, Benjamin did a thankless job and wasnât even paid extra for it. He might as well consider working for Remington.
Though it might be risky, the pay was good, and nobody there dared to give him any lip.
Natalie had just wrapped up two long scenes and looked a bit pale while resting on the side.
Rosle came over with a bottle of water, peering at her, âYou feeling okay?â
Natalie shook her head. âNo, I think Itâs just because I didnât sleep well last night.â
âWhat kept you up?â
Natalie had never mentioned anything about the Howard family to Rosie, nor had she brought up Nate. When she had borrowed Rosleâs car before, she simply said it was to pick up a relativeâs kid from school.
âI was just memorizing my lines last night, got a bit wired, and then couldnât sleep,â Natalie replied with a smile.
âIâll go grab you a cup of coffee,â Rosie said, getting up. Before Natalie could decline, Rosie was already out the door.
Natalie wasnât sure if Nateâs cold had been contagious or if it was something else, but ever since she arrived that morning, sheâd been feeling dizzy and nauseous. Yet, she didnât have a fever or a stuffy nose.
It might just be the lack of sleep.
After forcing down a few sips of the coffee Rosie brought her, she felt a tad better. However, during the next scene, the wave of nausea hit her hard.
Suspended midâair in a harness, she turned to the director and gestured for a timeout.
