Chapter 181
Wife by Day Boss by Night ( (Natalie and Brian )
Chapter 181
As Brian approached the door, he happened to overhear Davis bantering with the Wright family inside.
Davis saw Brian and said to Samuel and Lydia, âHere comes Brian. Heâll take good care of Gracia. You folks can stop worrying.â
Samuel seemed to understand Davisâ hint. With a complicated look, he took Lydiaâs hand and left first.
Brian listened to Davisâ instructions about looking after Graciaâs feelings. He stayed silent, watching as the group filed out.
âBrianâ¦â The hospital room felt suddenly quiet, leaving just him and Gracia. Tears welled up in Graciaâs eyes again.
âThe doctor says itâs no big deal. Stay a few days in the hospital, and youâll be as right as rain,â Brian said and put the medical report on the bedside table, his face betraying nothing.
Even if Brian wasnât the sharpest tool in the shed, he knew that director sneaking into Natalieâs room spelled trouble.
And Gracia lying in Natalieâs bed? Now, that was a whole different kind of interesting.
Gracia might have played the part of the innocent well, but she knew how to keep her nose out of his personal life. She never brought up anything about Madelyn in his presence. That proved she wasnât as naive as she seemed.
He hadnât confronted her because she had never posed a real threat to him. Perhaps Gracia had tried to set Natalie up the night before, but instead of the hunter, she became the hunted.
Brian turned and sat on the couch opposite the bed, silently fixing Gracia with his gaze.
âBrian, why are you staring at me like that?â Gracia felt a shiver run down her spine under his gaze. She stopped crying and asked him cautiously.
âWhat were you doing in Natalieâs room last night?â Brian paused briefly before asking softly, âDonât tell me it was sisterly love.â
âBrianâ¦â Gracia fumbled for words, âI was just⦠curious about how she won that award and what sheâs been up to abroad all these years. I never expected that she had invited that director over. Iâ¦â
âReally?â Brian cut her off, âWhat did you find out? Iâm curious, too. Why would Natalie appear on that award stage?â
âWe barely exchanged a few words. I didnât learn anything,â Gracia said, pouting her lips in a show of injustice. âSuddenly, she knocked me out, and when I woke up, that director was tearing my clothes!â
knew a be when he heard one. He had seen the unused bag of powder in her purse. No wet she had intended for Natalie to drink it.
Or even more troubling perhaps it was Davis who had instructed Gracia to use it.

didnât feel like pressing for more answers. She wouldnât tell the truth. She would just keep en couung trouble, relying on Davis favoritism toward her.
âpoet some rest. You didnât sleep at all last night,â he said softly.
Donât you believe me?â Gracia asked, her eyes searching Brianâs for affirmation.
Brian paused a little and then replied indifferently, âI do.â
In the end. Gracia had failed. She was the victim, who was pathetic in his eyes.
Thinking he believed her, Gracia sighed in reliet and lay down at ease.
Brian listened to her breathing even out and pulled out his smartphone, opening a chat with
Natalie still hadnât given him a satisfactory explanation for why, with all her talent, she was content with a modest fee back home.
tared at Natalieâs profile picture for a long while. In the end, he tossed the phone aside.
Even if he asked. Natalie wouldnât give him a straight answer. He wanted her to open up to him.
Ring, without coercion.
