Chapter 196
Wife by Day Boss by Night ( (Natalie and Brian )
Chapter 196
She hesitated for a few seconds before responding. âWasnât Reid poking his nose into FireWingâs business lately? Of course, Iâm in the loop.â
âFair point.â Brian chuckled. âI thought you were a gamer and might dabble in some hacker forums, too.â
âPlaying games and hacking are two different ball games.â Natalie retorted.
Pondering for a moment, she asked him, âWhatâs up? Why the sudden call about this?â
Brian chuckled again. âIâve got my eye on poaching her.â
âWell, thatâs beyond me, but I could hit up some contacts in the gaming world to see if anyoneâs familiar with her,â Natalie replied nonchalantly.
At that moment, Rosie walked over to Natalie and asked, âWhereâs your script? Have you seen it? The writer might want to make some changes.â
Overhearing Rosie, Brian whispered, âGo handle that. Iâll catch you later. With that, he hung up.
Natalie pocketed her phone and stood up to fetch the script for Rosie, only then noticing her heart was racing, nearly thumping out of her throat.
Brian was still suspicious of her and hadnât let his guard down.
When she handed the script to Rosie, her fingers brushed Natalieâs, prompting a surprised comment, âWhy are your hands like ice?â
âJust underdressed,â Natalie replied with a faint smile.
Her phone screen lit up again. It was a text from Uriah. [Both of you need to cool off. One wants out of the relationship, the other out of the hacking scene. I donât think itâs the right move. Iâll talk some sense into him. Give it a few days, and he might come around. Also, take a break. If youâre short of cash, tell me.]
[Thanks, Uriah,] Natalie typed back before swiftly deleting the message.
Kellan was always tightâlipped after a spat, and Natalie felt there was some truth to Uriahâs advice. Approaching Kellan at the moment would only add fuel to the fire.
It was best to let things simmer down for a while.
In the evening, Gavin showed up at the base himself.
âCare for a dinner out?â Gavin proposed over the phone, âMy carâs outside.â
He must have caught wind of the fallout with King.
âSure, just give me a moment to change,â Natalie responded quietly.
Gavin had booked a private dining room at a tranquil, stylish restaurant with a river view,

perfect for a private talk with Natalie. They sat in silence, facing each other, until the food arrived.
Finally, Gavin glanced at Natalie and asked, âAre you sure you want to burn bridges with King over Brian?â
âIâm not,â Natalie frowned involuntarily, âI never thought about leaving the Truth Group.â
âBut you did break his heart. Thatâs how men are. If youâre with one guy, it must be all or nothing. Otherwise, it would end in a falling out,â Gavin said as he poured Natalie a glass of champagne, sliding it gently towards her.
Natalieâs thoughts were a mess. She took a few sips, and after a long pause, Natalie asked softly, âGavin, if you were in my shoes, what would you choose?â
âYour heart is with Brian, right?â Gavin locked eyes with her, pressing, âEven after everything, heâs the one youâre hung up on.â
Natalie didnât want to answer, choosing silence instead.
Gavin understood it well.
After nibbling on some food, Natalie said, âIâll transfer the rights to the code to King. As for the shares Mr. James gave me, you can transfer them under his name.â
âHe doesnât care about that,â Gavin shook his head.
âHow could he not care about a piece of code youâve created? Or these shares? He had just called me, saying the code was your design, and itâs yours to keep.â
