Chapter 41

40. The trip!

Heartfelt Whispers

Anika

It was D-day. We were finally going on the trip we'd planned for so long, adding details over the years. And it's finally happening.

Our flight was at 5am, and we had to be there by 2am for check-in. By the time we were ready, it was already 10pm. Aarav had graciously offered to drop us at the airport.

We had to leave by 1:20am, so I had around 3 hours to hang out with Jai.

Until a few minutes ago, he was following me around while I packed last-minute stuff. Now he went to make dinner, and I was alone with my thoughts. Being alone made me think about him, as it always does.

I'm going to miss him so much. I've gone from being angry with him to being the happiest person.

I rant about my day, tell him all the gossip. And guess what? He does the same. He doesn't let me go to bed pissed or sad. He makes me smile with that goofy attitude. He's on my mind 24/7, even when I'm at my office.

All this stuff... I've never experienced anything like this before. The thought of losing him makes my heart pound, but most of the time, I look like a little girl giggling at his texts or him. He made me a light dinner because I don't like traveling with a full stomach.

"I'll have it in a while." I told him.

"Okay. What do you wanna do until then?" he asked, which is such a dangerous question to ask.I gave him a cheeky smile.

"I can make that happen!" he winked at me.

"Of course you can," I teased, throwing a pillow at him, laughing, which he caught effortlessly.

We settled on the sofa, cuddling, and stayed in each other's arms, me telling him how excited I was about the trip.

He says I yap too much, but I think he secretly enjoys it. I'm sure he does.

We were sitting there in silence, and Jai kissed my head gently. Sometimes I think this form of intimacy is something I crave. Not the sex or kisses, the way he understands me, tells me the right things when I'm anxious, sitting in silence where we understand each other without even needing a single word. Isn't that what love is?

"What are you staring at?" he questioned.

"The prettiest face ever, duh!" I declared, trying to hold his cheeks.

"Is that so?" he smirked.

"Of course, mister husband. You're too pretty, and not staring at you should be a crime." Did he just... blush? He's such a cutie.

Then we had dinner and got ready. We had to leave for the airport in 10 minutes, so I went to pray. I came back in a few minutes when I saw all of them in the living room of our apartment.

"Are you ready???" Diya exclaimed, excited.

"Absolutelyyyy," I replied, my smile super bright.

We left for the airport, me in Jai's car and the rest in Aarav's. I wanted to go with the girls, but I'm not going to see my husband for the next 10 days, so I'm getting my dose of him now.

When we were heading to the airport, our car blasting with music and both of us laughing at some stupid joke I made, I realized this is what I wanted all my life. Someone with whom I could make such crazy memories.

I read a quote somewhere that said, "At the end of the day, it's the person you stop reading your book for" and I feel that is absolutely true.

I don't read as much as I used to. I don't know why, but I'm not complaining.

As soon as we reached the airport, we went through the procedure, and then it was time to say goodbye to the boys. I hugged Aarav, and then he took Nisha along with him somewhere. I hugged Jai, and he placed a kiss on my head.

"Have fun, baby." he whispered, and I kissed his chest while hugging him.

"I will." I promised.

"Don't stay up late at work, eat properly, and go visit mom and dad, okay?" I added.

"Listen, Ani, if you don't pick up one phone call, I'll be there. I'm serious. You better update me once in a while, okay?" he insisted.

"I promise!"

We left for our flight, and after waiting for a couple of hours, we boarded. The flight was 9 hours long, and I was busy with my book for the first few minutes, then I fell asleep.

The three of us woke up after a couple of hours and started our routine gossip. It always feels good around these people, like I need no social battery around them. And that is what I feel actual friendship is.

We landed in Zurich after almost 10 hours. We had planned a plan using Pinterest, and we have a 10-day itinerary. I really hope this goes well.

We had a guide along with us, but we wanted to do a lot of things by ourselves.

We checked into our hotel. We had one living room which internally had three bedrooms, which was luxurious, I say.

We didn't want to sleep, so we changed into our trip outfits and started exploring.

Day 1 was full of visiting all the public attractions and clicking pictures. We tried the food, roamed in the streets of Zurich, and talked to a few local people.

On Day 2, located just a short drive from Zurich, this impressive waterfall, Rhine Falls, is the largest in Europe, with a height of 23 meters and a width of 150 meters. It was absolutely spectacular. And we went to a few places nearby.

On Day 3, we finally wanted to see the snow, so we went to the Interlaken Viewpoint, where the view and the mountains look spectacular.

But since it wasn't winter, we wouldn't see snow. But one thing I can say is that Switzerland in every season will be the best trip decision.

The next few days went the same. Us waking up early to visit places, having breakfast after taking advice from a local person, visiting places again, having lunch, clicking lots of pictures, making stupid jokes, sending Jai a few pictures, and talking to him on phone calls.

But at the end of the day, when the three of us are together, selecting which pictures to post and the backstory behind each one, that is my favorite part.

On Day 7, we went to Bern, which is the capital of Switzerland. It was such a beautiful place, trust me.

Everything about Switzerland was beautiful, from the trees to the train rides, I couldn't stop looking at the nature.

We didn't go to a bar here, but today, we decided to go to one. Nisha was skeptical about this, but she agreed after a little convincing.

I didn't have a battery in my phone, which I realized when we were halfway to the bar. Hopefully, I'll find a charger in the place.

As soon as we entered the place, we saw that it was packed and full of people. We didn't drink much, though. Only a few shots, and then we were dancing. A few guys watched, which was creepy, but we didn't give them any attention.

It was late by the time we came out. We were walking on the street, trying to book a cab.You know what truly bad luck is? Getting robbed in a country when you don't know anything. Exactly what happened to us. A guy pointed a knife at us and demanded our bags. We obeyed him.

Now, we were three drunk girls, with no proper information about our hotel, and because we kept roaming places, we didn't remember the exact location of the hotel we were staying at.

We tried searching for a taxi. We got one who luckily knew a landmark which was near our hotel. I was still tipsy because when we reached our room, I dived into the bed, which it felt like a cloud and I fell asleep instantly.

I think I'm hallucinating because as soon as I woke up, there was bright sunlight, and I got the scent of someone so familiar who wasn't on the trip with us.

"Jai?!! What are you doing here?"
