Chapter 155
Strings of Fate
Strings of Fate 155- Sisters and similarities Once everyone leaves, Bellamy pulls me aside to talk.
âRy, I didnât mean for Rio to find out about us like that. It was an accident. I was just trying to be considerate. I guess I didnât think it through as well as I should have.â His tone is apologetic. I sigh.
âI know that Bels, Itâs not your fault. Iâm not mad. Accidents happen.â I reassure him. He looks relieved, then contemplative.
âYou didnât have to tell her the truth.â He remarks. I roll my eyes.
âSure I did. I said I want to keep things to ourselves, that doesnât mean I want to outright lie to people.
Rio already confirmed that there are rumours and eventually, I suppose we will confirm them.â I think aloud. Bellamy smiles happily.
âGood. I wouldnât enjoy having to hear you deny that youâre mine.â He hugs me tightly and I poke him in the ribs.
âMaybe youâre mine.â I tease and he just laughs.
âOf course Iâm yours. That was implied.â He assures me.
âGood.â I pull back.
And thank you by the way, for trying to be considerate by getting a woman to pack my stuff. Now. Iâm still waiting for a phone call. Iâm going to go unpack my stuff while I wait. Wanna come and rearrange it all when I inevitably put it in the âwrongâ spots.â I joke. Bellamy grins.
âThat sounds perfect.â
Apparently Iâve collected more junk over the years than I thought I had. It takes way longer to put away than expected. Some things I just throw away, but itâs interesting seeing how my stuff fits into Bellamyâs room. We set aside a few things because Bellamy has declared that he wants to build another shelf to display some of my favourite things. Weâre just breaking down 155- Sisters and similarities the boxes so we can recycle them when my phone rings. I launch myself at it where itâs waiting on the bed and Iâm breathless when I answer.
âHello? This is Ryann Gale.â
âGood afternoon Alpha Gale, this is Joshua from the Magic Registration Office. I believe we spoke a few days ago.â He greets me pleasantly. I flinch a little at the title he gives me. I might be registered as the feline Alpha female, but that doesnât mean I really am the Alpha. Bellamy is smiling at me with a combination of glee and nervousness. I guess heâs still concerned that Iâm mad at him. I find that Iâm not mad, just uncomfortable.
âJust Ryann is fine Joshua and yes I remember you. Were you able to get me the information?â I try to keep my tone calm and confident, but inside Iâm a mix of raging nerves. I need this information, I will definitely freak out if he says no. Tears are guaranteed. But not before a rampage and me probably picking a fight.
âWell, my supervisors were understandably reluctant to hand over information about such a young girl to someone clearly unrelated to her, but when I mentioned your new registration status as well as your own unknown magic, they agreed that I could pass on some of her information, not everything but hopefully enough to help you. Although I have to inform you that there are strings attached. There is an expectation that should you learn more about your own magic that you update your registration in a timely manner.â Well thatâs not so bad, I would have done that either way. The registration system might be a little extreme and it doesnât help with the racist members of society, but it does help avoid certain misunderstandings and safety issues. Besides, itâs not that difficult to just wear long sleeves if donât want to advertise what you are. Iâm not saying the system is perfect, but itâs the one weâve got, and itâs the one that (most) people have agreed to.
you âThat wonât be a problem. If I learn anything new about myself Iâll be happy to update the MRO in a timely manner.â I assure him.
âExcellent!.â Joshua answers cheerfully.
âWell, Iâve made up a file which I can email through to you in a moment, but I thought I might explain some of the information that I included which might be a little unexpected, as well as give reasons for the information that was excluded.â
155âSisters and similarities âRight, sure. That would be great.â I consider the call on speakerphone for Bellamy, but he can hear everything being said either way so I donât see the point.
âOkay, well first, the main piece of information that has been excluded is Kiara Brooks race. It was deemed irrelevant and as it is not public knowledge and could put her at risk it is better. kept private.
She was marked with the symbol for her magic which is additional to her race.â He begins. Thatâsâ¦
odd. The whole point of the system is that knowing what people are puts them at LESS risk of silly accidents. Why exactly would a little girl need to keep it secret?
What could she be?
âAlright.â I respond, doubtfully.
âKiara Brooks is recorded as a magic that is all at once completely unique and not at all. She is the representative of one of the three sisters of fate. Her record doesnât state which sister.â
âSisters of fate?â I question.
âYeah, I think the most commonly known version is that in Greek myths, maiden, mother, crone, ones who make, measure and cut the strings that represent a personâs life. Those sisters.â He explains.
Huhs, that doesnât sound exactly like my magic, but strings of fate are at definite connection. Could I be one of these representatives?
âOkay, what else can you tell me?â I ask curiously âAh yes, well this is where it gets a little more complicated. When I was looking the girl up in our system and I realised that her magic was part of a set, I thought it might be useful to help in identifying your magic if you had that information too. So I went ahead and put through additional information requests on your behalf to get information about else with the same mark as Miss Brooks. Itâs not strictly against the rules, but is definitely bending them a little as you didnât make the formal request, but I thought it might save you some time.â Joshua admits nervously.
anyone âAny information you can give would be amazing. I really appreciate you putting in so much effort for me.â I encourage him and I can practically feel him perking up on the other end of the phone.
âYouâre very welcome. Okay so, the additional information that I have included in the file is 155- Sisters and similarities the names and contact information for two more people who have the same mark as Kiara Brooks. I donât know much about them other than that the three of them are supposedly representative of the sisters of fate.â Oh, so there are already three of them. So I guess I canât be one of them. But still, maybe there is something else similar that one of them might know about? Or at least they might know something that would help us work out why Kiara was taken. Either way itâs a solid lead.
âDo v you think that information might be useful to you?â Joshua sounds unsure again and I realise Iâve waited too long to answer.
âOh sorry, I was just thinking. That sounds incredibly useful, really. Thank you so much for doing such a thorough job looking into this for me. Youâre very good at your job.â I praise.
him.
âGreat, thatâs just⦠great. I wanted to be thorough. I have to admit Iâm curious to see if your magic can be identified. Youâre the only unknown magic in this city right now and I love a good mystery. It also never hurts to be on an Alphaâs good side.â He jokes. Aaaaand Iâm uncomfortable again.
âAh, well. Thanks again. Iâll look into it and if I can figure out what I am I promise Iâll let you know. Thank you for all your help.â I wrap up the call. I turn to Bellamy and he takes my hand.
âLetâs head to the office. We have some information to sort through and some people to track down.â
