Chapter 176
Strings of Fate
176- Anticlimactic and assistance Nothing happens. Well that was anticlimactic. âSo⦠is something meant to happen?â Harry asks. I shrug.
âI donât know. Iâm not a Witch.â I point out.
âWell⦠can you let go of the bottle now?â Bellamy asks. Without hesitation, Harry opens his fingers and the GLASS bottle goes tumbling towards the floor. I gasp in horror. Bellamyâs hand snaps out and catches it at the last second.
âOops. Talk about catâlike reflexes though.â He holds up his now free hand to Bellamy for a highâfive.
Bellamy just glares at him and hands me the potion bottle.
âThanks. Good catch, Bels. Harry⦠Iâm starting to see why Cam spelled the bottle onto your hand.
Why would you just DROP the potion?â I demand.
âYou said to let go. I let go.â He says unrepentantly.
âI didnât mean- Ugh. Why am I even bothering? This is a waste of time.â A thought occurs to me and I smirk at Harry. He looks at me suspiciously.
âWhat? What did you just think of?â He demands. I shrug.
âOh, nothing much. Just that I should complement Cam on how thoughtful she was to spell this bottle to your hand after what I just saw, I did promise her an update.â I say, promise in my tone. Harryâs eyes widen in horror.
âNO! Donât do that! She already thinks Iâm irresponsible!â He objects. Harry turns to Bellamy.
âI have Shifter friends, I knew you would catch it. Seriously, I did. I knew it wouldnât get broken!â He insists. Bellamy looks tom between being smug and annoyed. Like heâs thinking âduh of course I can catch it, but youâre still an ass.â Harry looks like heâs on the verge of a panic attack. I take pity on him.
âItâs alright Harry. I wonât say anything. I know you wouldnât have broken it. Not really.â I reassure him.
Bellamy still looks doubtful, but when Harry turns to look at him with pleading eyes he gives a slight nod and I smile at him. Itâs sweet that Harry is actually taking it seriously with Cam, although I doubt she realises that yet. He isnât great at appearing like he takes anything seriously, especially himself. As is demonstrated by how he is currently licking the whiskey off his fingers.
âMmm, this is good stuff. Can I get a proper drink?â Harry asks. Bellamy glances at me and I shrug.
With a sigh, Bellamy steps into the kitchen to grab a glass and returns with a drink for him. He also gets me a drink, but not whiskey. Itâs not really my thing. He brings me a glass of wine.
âYouâre not drinking?â Harry asks, Bellamy shakes his head.
âNah, not right now. Iâm having a great day. Donât really want to dull it with alcohol.â He says cheerfully with a wink in my direction. I blush.
âOooooooooh.â Harry says in his most childish teasing tone.
âDid something HAPPEN?â He looks pointedly between Bellamy and I. Bellamy smirks and I roll my eyes.
176- Anticlimactic and assistance âFine. Yes. But Iâm only going to say this once, then you need to leave and I donât want to hear a single word from you. Harass me in the group chat later or something okay?â I stare him down. Harry mimes zipping and locking his lips then throwing away the key. I take a deep breath.
âOkay. I told Bellamy I love him.â I force out. Harry looks like he is repressing a squeal. Bellamy steps up beside me and hooks his arm around my waist, pulling me close to his side.
âAnd I said it back, in case that wasnât to the front door.
Vious.â He adds. At that, Harry rolls his eyes. Then he starts heading straight âOkay, Iâm leaving and saying noth as promised. But keep an eye on the group chat. In the meantime, I need to go remind Cam that she totally owes me for helping with that delivery.â He grins and leaves in a hurry.
âWell, I guess I should put this somewhere safe until we find someone who actually knows Kiara well enough to be able to use it.â I say. I canât decide if having the potion is exciting or depressing. Itâs like having the key to a car that doesnât work. Sure, itâs great. You have a car and it MIGHT be useful. But unless you can get it working, all it does is take up space and make you feel guilty, particularly when you know how useful it COULD be. Bellamy agrees and offers to put it in the safe. I frown.
âYou have a safe?â I ask. He laughs.
e shows âWe do. Yes. In the office. Iâll show you, come on.â He says cheerfully, leading me by the hand.
In the office he shows me how there is a safe built in behind one of the bookshelves. Itâs kind of awesome. The type of safe that you only see on TV.
âIâm so impressed. This is really cool.â Bellamy shows me how to open the safe and gives me the code.
Most of what is in it is random paperwork, but there are a few other items, jewellery, weird looking artefacts. I ask about them and Bellamy explains that most of the Shifterâs spelled or confiscated items are kept here. Most of them arenât really all that useful. He also keeps paperwork, proof of ownership and the important documentation for the many businesses the Shifters are involved in. I carefully place the potion in a little empty corner, pushing it back to make sure that itâll be safe and wonât tip out or anything when the safe door gets opened again.
Since weâre in the office anyway, Bellamy takes a moment to ch*ck his emails for anything urgent before we get ready for bed. I climb into the recliner and push it back as far as it goes. I have every intention of just zoning out, maybe scrolling aimlessly through some social media. Except wait, I have another message. Itâs from an unknown number.
Unknown- Good afternoon, I donât know exactly how to address this but I have an issue I was hoping to get help with. Iâm not sure that Alpha Kane is the right person to discuss it with. A few of my friends suggested I message this number. They said you and the Alpha are good friends and you might be able to help me. Itâs okay if you canât. I just thought I would try.
Unknown- My name is Sara by the way.
Oh, wow. I know I gave out my number, but I didnât think anyone would take me up on the offer so quickly. I answer immediately, not wanting her to think that Iâm not willing to help.
Ryann- Hello Sara, you can call me Ryann. If you tell me whatâs wrong Iâll see what I can do to help you out. I understand that sometimes it might be hard to approach Alpha Kane with certain matters.
my Unknown: Maybe Sara- Thankyou! Okay, so my issue is that my dad is REALLY overprotective. Like I love him and 176- Anticlimactic and assistance everything but itâs getting ridiculous. Iâm eighteen years old and he wonât let me go out alone or with any other men as protection. I never get to go out unless he is with me. Iâm stuck with him ALL the time. I understand that right now there are additional warnings in place for young women and Iâm not trying to ignore them. But this has been going on for ages. I want to go to university next year but unless he plans to attend classes with me, Iâm scared heâs going to refuse to let me go. I know I could just move out, get a job and all that, support myself. But I donât want to completely cut my dad out or leave him alone. I just want him to understand I need a little more freedom. Iâm not a little girl anymore.
I didnât think Alpha Kane would understand, I mean his sister is in university but she has a guard all the time, so maybe he would agree with my dad. But there are plenty of other Shifters who get to go out without babysitters. Sorry, I know this is a lot, but I just really donât know what to do. I just really need some advice please!
