Chapter 232
Strings of Fate
Megan 4- Exploding and explaining The next few weeks are very lonely. Bellamy is quiet and depressed. Ryann answers my calls. and messages and comes to help with wedding stuff when I ask, but sheâs withdrawn and doesnât reach out unless I talk to her first. Even Darrien, my constant shadow, seems to be more and more unhappy every passing day, although he hasnât said why. Regardless of everyoneâs mood, time does pass and soon enough itâs the night before my wedding. Iâm anxious about the ceremony, but more than that, Iâm anxious because this is going to be the first time Bellamy and Ryann have been in the same place since he found out the truth and then ran off. In all likelihood they will just avoid each other. But I hope they make up. Still, itâs kind of frustrating. This isnât going to be the fun filled, perfect day Iâve always dreamed of if my brother and best friend canât stand to even look at each other. Itâs like everything is just stagnant. Neither of them is willing to make a move and try to fix things, but neither of them seems to be willing or able to move on either. So theyâre just stuck how they are, miserable. and making everyone around them miserable too. Bellamy and I are having a very quiet and very late dinner together while I go over the plans for tomorrow and he nods and pretends to care. He got home late and I waited for him, determined that he would at least hear the plans. before the day. All of a sudden he glances at his phone and tenses up. Before I know it, he is throwing his plate across the room with a viscous growl. What the hell? Bellamy is usually fairly even tempered, what has him throwing his meal?
âBels? Whatâs wrong?â I ask, he doesnât answer and he doesnât stop there. My plate quickly follows it along with both of our glasses. Before I know it, heâs lashing out at any item that isnât stuck down. Even in his rage heâs careful not to let me get hurt, but apparently the dishware is fair game.
Once the kitchen is sufficiently trashed, he wrenches the door to his study open, steps in and slams it shut behind himself. I hear the lock click into place and then nothing. I have no idea what is going on but my automatic reaction is to call Darrien.
âMiss Kane?â He answers the phone after one ring.
âSomething is wrong with Bellamy, heâs freaking out and he just completely trashed the kitchen.â I tell him, my voice is quiet and anxious.
âIâm on my way. Are you safe?â He demands immediately.
âIâm fine, Iâm just worried about him. Heâs locked himself in his office. I donât know what to do or whatâs wrong with him. He got a message. Do you know if something happened?â I ask, Megan 4- Exploding and explaining a little desperate.
âNo, but I can only think of one person that could bother the Alpha so much.â He remarks and I start to panic.
âYou think something has happened to Ryann?â I ask in horror.
âNo, Aaron is with her right now. If there was danger we would have been called to help. But maybe he heard something else he didnât like?â he suggests.
âIâm going to call her. Right now.â I insist. I hang up on Darrien before he can say anything. He should be here soon, but I need to know that Ryann is alright.
I wait anxiously as the phone rings, but she doesnât answer. I immediately call again and still⦠no answer. Itâs not until I call for a third time that she picks up the phone.
âMegan, whatâs wrong?â She doesnât sound like sheâs in trouble. In fact she sounds more relaxed than she has in ages.
âMy brother is going crazy and nothing makes him as crazy as you do. Where are you right now?â I demand. I know itâs a little rude of me but I need to know. I mean my brother just trashed the place.
âIâm at home.â Yeah thereâs no way thatâs the whole story or Belamy wouldnât be freaking out. Plus Ryann sounds like she has more to say.
âAnd?â I prompt.
âAnd I have a friend over?â I canât repress a groan. I think I know what the problem is.
âIs this friend a guy?â I ask.
âYeahâ¦â She answers awkwardly. I groan even louder. No wonder heâs upset. Heâs jealous and he has to know that itâs at least partially his own fault.
âThat explains a lot. You have a guy over in the middle of the night. Wait, who is it? Is he a Shifter?â
Seriously, I didnât think she even KNEW any other guys except for the Shifters who Megan 4- Exploding and explaining have been guarding her, and Bellamy wouldnât be freaking out about them.
âNo.â She answers reluctantly. Why doesnât she want to say who it is?
âSomeone from your work? A human?â I prompt. I know I said I wouldnât pester her anymore but I need to know.
âNo, a childhood friend. Heâs an Incubus.â She finally admits and I am speechless for a full thirty seconds. This might be the worst possible scenario.
âYou invited an Incubus into your home, alone, in the middle of the night?â Does Ryann realise how that must look? Wait, does she care? Maybe she is planning to sleep with the Incubus since my brother hasnât been around. But that doesnât sound like her. I know the guy canât be using magic or taking advantage of her because the guards would have put a stop to that before they made it into her home.
âYes, I did. Heâs my friend.â She responds defensively. She sounds a little angry and I realise this Incubus must be a legitimate friend. If I voice my thoughts right now Iâm only going to piss her off.
âOh, I get it, and itâs fine, great even. But Ryann, you canât have thought Bellamy would react well to this.â I overdo it with the reassurances but I donât want her to be angry. Still, I canât help but point out the obvious.
âI canât live my life around what makes Bellamy most comfortable. Besides, he met Harry briefly once before. Weâve already had this argument.â I sigh.
âI get it Ry, but seriously. Youâre driving him crazy.â
âI seriously doubt thatâs the problem. Heâs probably just annoyed that Iâm making it difficult for my guards again since he has deemed himself personally responsible for my safety.â I roll my eyes dramatically. How can she not realise that heâs obsessed with her? Heâs paying for a full time security detail for her. He wouldnât do that for just anyone. But she hasnât listened to me so far, why would she believe me now.
âAnd are you safe Ry?â I have to make sure before I hang up. A smooth male voice answers me and I canât help a shiver of pleasure at the sound of his voice. Woah. Incubi really are Megan 4- Exploding and explaining something else.
âHey there, friend of Ryann. I can assure you that Ryann has absolutely nothing to fear from me. You can tell the Alpha kitty cat to stand down. I think we were probably only seven years old when she told me in no uncertain terms that I would never have a chance with her because fate said so. Canât argue with that, now can I?â He sounds amused, but not offended. I doubt heâs trying to get into her pants. I mean, I doubt he would reject her if she offered, what Incubi would? But he seems okay.
âThat does sound like her.â I agree.
âI know, always unavailable.â He sighs then when he speaks again his voice is seductive.
âWhat about you then? Are you available?â I hear a thud that I suspect is Ryann hitting him.
âShe isnât for you Harry. Keep your charm to yourself.â She tells him off and I laugh.
âHad to try Ry, backing off now.â He answers cheerfully.
âSorry about him. Everything is fine here as you can tell. We built a blanket fort and now. weâre watching cartoons. Iâll see you tomorrow for hair and makeup alright?â Okay, so sheâs okay. I have to go tidy the kitchen anyway so I let her go.
âYes definitely! 7:00 am sharp. I canât believe tomorrow is my wedding!â I say with an enthusiasm Iâm not sure I feel.
âUm, yeah. Itâs definitely come quick. Iâll talk to you tomorrow. Bye.â
âSeeya!â
