Chapter 16

15.

North Star (ManxMan)

I was completely marked and it's been days, it didn't even feel like it was fading away. I had a lunch date with Wren in a couple of hours and it felt like time had intentionally slowed itself down. I was currently at the bookstore and there were just a handful of people browsing the shelves and Desmond was flipping through a cosmopolitan magazine for who knows what reason.

My hearing aids were on and I could hear Desmond speak. "Stop staring at the time."

"No." I signed.

"Your marks even look worse than yesterday. Does he give you new ones everyday?" Desmond asked, raising his eyebrows at me.

"Do you really want to know about my sex life because I give you all the necessary details, Des." I signed and he stuck out his tongue, his nose scrunching up in disgust.

"To you, everything that happened is a necessary detail to tell me." Desmond said and I glared at him. I raised my middle finger to him and he stuck his tongue out at me again, like the grown ass man he was. The meanie. But, he had not been lying. All details were necessary details. There might be some people who wanted to know how Wren liked pushing me up or onto every and any flat surface and fucking me so hard that I end up coming on them. Or how when I told Wren I wanted to eat him out, he had let out the loudest moan and fucked into me like a man on a mission.

He really liked it and I was really going to do it. Whenever it was that he was ready.

I snapped out of my thought when something a little hard hit my forehead and I stared at the tiny booklet that was now on the table.

"You had on your sex face." Desmond signed and I glared at him again. He was such a liar. There was no such way.

"I do not have a sex face, you turd." I signed and Desmond's lips part in surprise. I felt very proud of myself for getting such a reaction from him. That would teach him.

"If I'm a turd, then you're an asshat."

"That's not a word." I teased, grinning at him, feeling very smug about it. Desmond rolled his eyes at me and I chuckled. We took a quick break when a customer walked up to the counter, handing over a copy of Fifty Shades of Grey and one copy of The Lightning Thief. Such a wonderful mix. She handed over cash, I gave her a receipt and then she was gone.

"Wonder what she would read first?" Desmond signed and I shrugged.

"She probably wanted to read the fifty shades book but didn't want it to be the only book she carried out of here." I signed and Desmond chuckled.

"It's a book store. We don't judge here. We have various erotic novels in that section near the wall." Desmond signed and then motioned to said shelves. More often than not, we had to get more copies of the kamasutra, it's actually one of our bestsellers. It seems people still learn from it. Old but never stale.

The lights flash, just as the door to the store is pushed open and a familiar older man walks in. My brow raised in surprise and Desmond was quick to get on his feet. The man smiles at Desmond and then turns to me. He smiles at me as well and gives me a little wave. He walked closer to the counter and I saw Desmond try to sign but I could not focus on him right now.

This older man was the same man I had met in front of Wren's workplace.

"Hello, it's nice to see you again." I signed and the man looked at me, a little lost. His look of confusion was adorable. Desmond was about to walk forward but I shook my head at him. I typed into the tab turning on the text to sound option. The only people I ever wanted to especially talk to were Wren and Desmond.

"Do I type or speak?" The older man asked and I looked at him.

"You can speak. I'll sign for him." Desmond said, discreetly signing so I could follow along as well. The older man turns to Desmond and gives him a grateful smile.

"It's nice to meet you. My name is August, I am Wren's father."

He was new and it was hard to like understand what he was saying but I did see his lips form the word Wren. However, my eyes widened when I finally understood what Desmond had said and I just stared at him. Why were all his family members ambushing me at work? Did they plan this? Do they have a group chat and just agree on a time and date? Was this man here to insult me as well?

I mentally sighed.

"I want to apologize on behalf of my children. It seems like I didn't raise them as properly as I thought." The older man and I do not even bother to deny it. Lying was not one of my personal traits. And he needed to know as well. Desmond was signing along as the older man spoke and I was so grateful for him being here. His eyes were wide and I understood.

"I did not mean to ambush you at work but Wren would rather step on a whole box of needles than allow me near you. He's very protective of things he loves that way." The older man said and I remained silent. I was not sure what to say or what type of response. I liked that Wren was protective of me. He deserves a couple of kisses. Or maybe I should make him like a love coupon.

"Wren has actually told me a lot about you. He calls you his husband now. Before, he used to call you his boyfriend but now. . . I just wanted to see and meet you. You are as lovely as he says you are." the older man said and this time, I smiled at that. It felt incredible knowing Wren talks to people about me. It felt heavenly knowing he was now calling me his husband. It felt good knowing that he told his father about our relationship.

I picked up the tab, typing quickly across the screen.

"It is nice to meet you, Wren's dad. You're very sweet."

"Thank you." the man said and I nodded, still smiling softly at me. "I just wanted to meet you once. I am sorry for barging in. I'll go if I am disturbing." the man had said, Desmond's fingers moving quickly as he signed.

I didn't know what to do. I didn't feel comfortable talking to this older man about Wren when he was not here. It did not feel right. And it would be rude to send him away. A quick glance at the time on the tab showed I still had an hour until it was time for my lunch date with Wren.

"Can you give me a few seconds?" I typed onto the tablet and the older man nodded.

I pulled out my phone and immediately sent a text to Wren. He had told me earlier that he was going to be in a meeting but I could send texts.

To My husband: Your dad is here

I didn't even have the time to lock my phone or even place it down when Wren's reply started coming in.

From My Husband: For fuck sake

From My Husband: I'm on my way

From My Husband: Did he come alone?

From My Husband: Give me fifteen minutes

I sighed and shook my head at my husband's response.

To My Husband: Don't die. Stay within speed limit

From My Husband: Speed limits be damned

I chuckled at his response.

To My Husband: Love you too, Wrennie

I locked my phone when I heard a sound coming from in front of me. Oh. Yeah. We had company. We could not keep an older man standing so I moved away from the counter and walked over to the other side.

"Wren is on his way." I signed and Desmond translated.

The older man had an excited look on his face and it made me wonder when last he got to spend time with Wren. I led him towards the little lounge we had. It had two bean bags, two couches and then a small round table with three stylish wooden chairs on it. It was something new we added and it seemed like all of our customers liked it as well.

I took out my phone and typed. "Would you like something to drink?" I asked.

"Eh, no, thank you."

We took our seats and well, it got silent between us.

"So do you . . . Can you hear me?" he asked and I nodded. I reached my hands up and brushed my hair back, tucking it behind my ear so he could see my hearing aid. It was much smaller than the older one. The white tube tucked into my ear canal with the little receiver, tucked behind my ear.

"Oh. . ."

"May I ask how you met my son?" he asked, a small smile on his face.

My fingers flew across my screen as I typed out our cute little meet cute. I didn't really go into details because I did not know how much I wanted to trust him just yet. I watched August smile as he read over my words. He slides the phone over to me.

"I am happy he has found someone who cares about." he said and I smiled. "His brother and sister have always found a way to make him miserable and I had been too busy in the past to pay attention to him and that is one of my biggest regrets. Over the years, he became withdrawn, never reacted, always seemed bored or like he wasn't in the present. Always minded his business and once he was eighteen, he left home and never looked back."

My eyes went a little wide when Wren had told me about his horrible siblings but not that he had left the house at eighteen. He had been so young.

"You were the first thing, first person that ever got him to relax in the last six years. I also want to apologize to my children again. They had hired a private investigator and that was how they found out about you and your relationship with Wren."

My lips parted in shock and I was suddenly filled with anger. Fuck those two. They needed to be taught how to be decent human beings.

The lights flash red and I didn't even need to look behind me to know that Wren had just walked in. His father stood on his feet while I just waited. Waited until finally I heard sounds coming from behind me. When I stood up and turned, Wren walked up to us. He was in an actual three piece suit with a tie, black with a gold chain connecting his lapel to his breast pocket. His chestnut hair was styled off his face, the sides trimmed low. There was a tick in his jaw and he did not look happy. However, when he falls his eyes on me, he smiles in reflex, his hands reach out, slipping around my waist. When he comes close enough, he presses a kiss to my forehead.

"Hello, darling." he said and I smiled.

"Hey Wrennie." I said and August's lips part. It was the first time he was hearing my voice. Whenever I was with Wren, it just came out. Like I wanted him to hear me all the time.

"Father. . . "

"Son . . ."

I looked between them both and I could feel just how tense he was. I raised my fingers and signed at him. I knew Wren was following the movement. I held my breath, hoping that he would agree. It took a second but Wren took a step forward, letting go of my waist. He takes another and another until he is standing in front of his dad and pulling him in for a tight hug.
