Chapter 21

20.

North Star (ManxMan)

Living with Wren had to be the best days of my life. It had taken two days to haul all my things over to his house. We had invited Desmond over and we all had red wine as we pulled box after box from the truck Wren had rented.

It took a day to get my things sorted and arranged in the house. In our house. It was our house now. That same night we went out for celebration with Desmond who brought Nick along, the two of them holding hands but not addressing it, so Wren and I decided not to bring it up. Yet.

They were really cute.

Almost as cute as Wren and I were.

The days turned into weeks and Wren worked from 9-5, always taking me to and picking me up from work. It really pleased him to be able to do that. Ever since we started living together, it seemed like our sex life had reached new heights and Wren seemed like he was always horny. His sex drive was quite strong and don't even get me started about his stamina.

Week turned to months and it was almost time for him for the exhibit of new releases and when Wren and his company had sent out invites, giving the date, time and dress code, the news of it had immediately hit the news sites and blogs. The RSVPs came rolling in and Wren. . . he seemed happy about it and not stressed out a little bit.

He was excited about this but he wouldn't tell me about the main piece. I had seen the mock up on the other jewellery he made but I had not seen the main piece yet. He was very silent about it and I didn't want to snoop around and ruin it, it seemed like he really wanted to surprise me.

The shareholder's meeting for Walst. Wren and his siblings had been summoned to appear at the board meeting. He had asked me to tag along and I agreed. Wren had pulled on a black shirt buttoned up with matching black pants, waistcoat and a jacket. His hair was styled off his face, a custom made watch around his wrist, the gold cuff-links I had bought for him the other week, tucked into the wrist of his shirt.

I, on the other hand, pulled on a black shirt with thin white stripes, high-waisted black pants, sneakers. I had the necklace Wren had given me wrapped around my neck, the bracelet around my wrist. My hearing aids were on and covered by my hair, the front styled in a messy fringe.

For the occasion, Wren had brought in the company's driver who took us to the Walst twelve story building. Wren walked out first and made his way over to the side of my car and opened the doors for me. Once I was out and my hand was wrapped around my husband's arm, we walked into the building.

We were five minutes late. But what a way to make an appearance. The guard at the door pulled it open and we stepped in. Everyone turned to the door and I stood my ground, glaring at Wren's siblings, Mark and Lena. They looked so much like him but were nothing like my husband.

Everyone stared as Wren led me to a free seat, pulling back the chair for me and waiting till I was seated before falling into the seat beside me. I smiled at August who smiled back at me. Loving the look of surprise on Mark and Lena's face.

The meeting continues until August gets up and openly says. "I want Wren to take over this company." he went on to explain his belief in Wren, about Wren's jewelry company, their stocks, sales and how they had not once failed.

There was a poll where he asked everyone present to raise their hands if they wanted Wren as the president of the company. Wren reached out and placed his hand on my thigh while I placed my hand on his squeezing a little bit. We had a long talk about this already and came up with plans as well.

Out of the twenty eight people present, except me, twenty six people raised their hands. One could guess the two people who didn't.

Wren pressed a kiss to my cheek when he was called up to stand beside his father.

"Thank you," Wren starts. August was standing by his son's side and I smiled at the two of them. "I already have plans that will be shared with you all in an email later today. Despite taking the mantle as president of this company, I will only be in charge of designs and a handful of other things. I will begin a search for the right COO and Executive director that would fit in with my plans. I will not be merging this company with my brand, for your information. Walst won't fail and will definitely succeed underneath my tenure. Thank you again for choosing me." Wren said and the men and women in the boardroom all stood up and clapped.

I smiled brightly at him, standing on my feet and clapping along with the other people present. Mark and Lena were quiet and were glaring but no one was paying attention to them. They had missed out on two opportunities and that was their fault.

I watched Wren shake the hands of board members. Once he got closer to me, he pressed a kiss to my cheek and with one arm around my waist, he gently pulled me along as he talked to other board members.

"August. . ." I signed, giggling as he pulled me in for a hug. He also hugged Wren too, pressing a kiss to his cheek. The elderly man was smiling so brightly.

"You look happy." I signed and Wren immediately translated.

"I am happy. Thank you so much, son! I think I can die happily now." the elderly man said and I pouted, reaching out to gently smack the man's arm.

"Are you busy? Should we have lunch?" I signed and Wren told him.

"Let's go. I know just the right place." August said and I chuckled. He always seemed to know the right place. We've been having lunch three times a week and each time he always said he knew the right place to go.

With my hand wrapped around Wren's arm we walked to the door but were stopped by the siblings from hell.

"Don't think you've won." Mark said, glaring at Wren.

Ugh, what? How could they even turn this around and win? The deed was already done or were they sleeping when Wren signed the certificate things and held it up with his dad? The one photographer who took pictures?

"When dad dies we're going to contest this."

I took a deep breath and glared at the two of them, moving to stand in front of Wren. "Hey, tweedledee and tweedledum, can you back the fuck off and rest! You lost! You would have brought the company to the ground. If you don't want to be slapped, I suggest you step aside so we can leave or I'll have security throw you out."

Lena let out a gasp, still glaring at me.

This time Wren moved, hand slipping around my waist as he leveled his sibling with a glare of his own. "You can both talk to me, you can both talk about me but the next time you talk to Bailey, look at him or even breathe wrong in his direction, I will make it the last thing you will ever do." he said, his voice hard and he looked menacing. His siblings took a step back and I tried not to roll my eyes at them.

We ended up leaving and having lunch at an Italian restaurant with August.

The day of the exhibit sneaks up on me but Wren had it all prepared and planned out. Since he was not going to be home, he promised to wait for me at the door of the gallery where the exhibition was being held.

By seven, after being dressed and treated like royalty by a group of stylists, I was dressed in a black high-waisted fitted pants and a cobalt blue chiffon shirt with the two top buttons undone, my hair styled in a messy fringe, my hearing aid worn and switched on.

There was a driver waiting for me outside and once I got into the black SUV, I sent a message to Wren, telling him I was on my way. It took about thirty minutes to get to the gallery where the exhibition was going to happen and once the car pulled to a stop, my door was pulled open and standing there was my darling boyfriend. My husband.

There was a red carpet leading up to a white bungalow with long windows and beautiful plants and flowers. There was already security lining the doors and the edge of the red carpet.

"Darling. . ." Wren said, smiling widely as he held his hand out to me. He was dressed in a nicely fitted black tuxedo and a white inner-shirt with a matching black bow tie. I slipped my hand into his, smiling widely back to him. I could feel the familiar thrum in my veins, the tingles and it never fails to make me happy.

"Baby, you look breathtaking." Wren said as he raised my hand to his lips, pressing a kiss to my knuckle.

"You look gorgeous, Wrennie." I said, smiling at him, heat flooding to my cheeks as soon as he said those words. He always loves complimenting me. And I always loved when he did that.

"Come on, darling. There's so much I want to show you before the guests start arriving." Wren said, dropping my hand but intertwining our fingers together. We walked down the long stretch of the red carpet and into the gallery. At the center, a little to the left was something large but completely covered with a white cloth. Wren doesn't say anything about that but leads me over to the east wall and grabs a large velvet box.

"Wren. . . "

"So you know I have been working on these new designs." Wren said and I nodded. "They were inspired by you." he said as he pulled open the velvet box. Laying on a plush pillow was a silver necklace with a north star pendant with a pink diamond in the middle. It also had a matching silver bracelet with the North Star dangling off it like a charm.

"Oh my god, Wren. . ."

"I made this for you. Actually, this inspired me to make the whole collection that would be shown here today. It's custom made and the only one ever made by me. I engraved your name on it, over and over again until there was no space left. A special gift for my special boy." Wren said, looking so honest and open. This man. . . I could feel the tears burn in the sides of my eyes but I sniffed, pushing them back.

"Wren. . . "

"Do you like it?" he asked and I nodded, one hand reaching up to cover my mouth and nose as I fought back the tears. He always said the sweetest things, my Wren.

"Thank you, Wrennie." I replied. "Can you put them on for me?" I asked and he agreed. He slipped the necklace around my neck and wrapped the bracelet around my wrists.

"I'm sorry. . . I didn't get you anything." I said and Wren shook his head, reaching out to cup my cheeks and raise my head to look at him.

"You don't have to get me anything. I am thankful and happy that I have you in my life. You have given me so much more than anything I could ever make or give to you, Bailey. You showed me how to be me again, you taught me how to be happy, to smile, to laugh, to love, to want and to keep. . ."

"I love you, Wren."

"I love you too."

I raised my hand up, fingers brushing the necklace and the pendant. "Thank you. It really is beautiful."

"Only the best for you, my darling." Wren said, pressing a kiss to my forehead. "Want to see the rest of the exhibit?"

"You know I do."

Hand in hand, Wren leads me over to the first glass case showing off more jewelries. The exhibit ranged from simple necklaces to big showpieces with various colors of jewels and the prices on it made me almost have a heart attack. None of the other pieces had a pink diamond nor did they look like mine. Pearls, earrings, cufflinks, crowns, matching sets and then there was that piece that was completely covered by the white cloth.

"What is under there?"

And for the first time since I've met Wren, he got this nervous look on his face and he was wiping his palm against his trouser. "I. . . This piece took me a month and is most positively the most expensive piece here. I have thought about how to ask you over and over again but I just could not find the right words and I would rather drink bleach than use any of the suggestions I saw online. So I am just going to do this my way. . ." Wren said, letting go of my hand so he could sign at the same time. He reached out and tugged on the white cloth.

I watched the cloth fall away, revealing what was underneath. I let out a loud gasp, my eyes going so wide as I looked at it. Wren had used different jewels, white diamonds, red diamonds, blue diamonds, rubies, black opal. He had used an assortment of actual expensive jewels for an artwork. Not just any artwork. It was me.

I was staring at me. My black hair, my face, my lips. Even my hearing aid.

Wren had used an assortment of jewels to illustrate me.

"Oh my god. . ."

"Bailey. . ." Wren said and I turned to look at him, the tears that I had been trying to keep back instantly began to fall when I saw Wren on one knee, holding out a ring to me. In his hand, held between two fingers was a silver lace ring topped with a north star and a pink diamond, matching the rest of the jewelry Wren had given.

"Wren . . ."

"I love you, Bailey. I have loved you since the day that you spilled coffee over me. I want to spend the rest of my life making you happy. I want to spend the rest of my life with you next to me, as my partner, as my lover, as my husband, as the father of our kids when we have some. I want to grow old with you, I want to make you laugh and smile all the time. You are the love of my life and there is no one on earth that I would rather be with than you. You are the one for me, my home, my brightest star, you make me be a better man, my constant. I love the way you smile, the way you laugh, the way you lean into me, how you go on and on about the books you find interesting, how you care about your friend, how you care for me, how fiercely you love, how you're not afraid to go after what you want. I love you so much. Will you marry me, baby?"

I was openly crying now and so was Wren, my throat felt heavy like something was weighing it down but I licked my lips and said as loudly as I could.

"Yes! Yes!" I screamed, loud enough for me to even hear myself.

Wren slips on the ring and I just flung myself at him, the two of us falling to the ground, lips meeting each other as we kissed.

-

Later, when people were milling around and staring at the gorgeous pieces, Wren stayed standing at my side with a matching ring wrapped around his finger. Once Desmond walks in with Nick, he immediately spots the ring and runs right to me, the two of us screaming loudly.

The second most happiest day of my life.

-

The happiest day of my life was the day we stood in front of close friends and family. The day we exchanged vows and said I do.

The day we became husband, in name, in our hearts and legally.
