Monroe (2)
Maybe not the Luna
"It is not my fault that Alpha Baxter requested me to be the liaison to his pack," I defended myself to Sarah, the old liaison to the pack.
"I just find it very suspicious that he made that change after meeting you." Sarah was practically spitting on me in the coven hall. The leaders have done nothing so far to quiet her. The coven watched anxiously. "maybe you offered some benefit for him to request you."
"I resent what you are implying. The alpha requested me because I saved his best friend's tree, and we became friends during the clean-up from the battle. Maybe he just wanted to surround himself with friends."
"And you being young and pretty had nothing to do with this," she demanded
"I apologize, elders; I can not stand much more of these comments," I addressed the elders directly, ignoring her comment. They looked at each other, and then the communication leader stood
"I see many feelings about this new change, but the fact is that Alpha Baxter has requested Monroe Silverstone to be the liaison, so she shall be that. We will hear no more of these complaints." Everyone was dismissed, and now I had another mission to take on. Kicking Baxter's ass for putting me in that situation.
I stormed into the packhouse. Wolves were giving me the side-eye up to the alpha's office. With one knock, I opened the door, not waiting for permission. I would be dead if I were a wolf in Baxter's pack. Luckily, I was not.
"hey, Roe," Ethan waved from his seat on the couch, playing a videogame on his phone.
"don't you have anything better to do since you are now an elder of the grove?" I asked
"touche, I'll have you know I take my elder duties very seriously. I am confirming our alliance with the red meadow pack."
"that isn't the pack's name," I responded.
"give him a break. He doesn't know the name of his grove either," Baxter said from his desk. "How may I help you, Roe."
"Help me. You threw me under the bus, and now you want to help me," I scoffed.
"you are going to need to be more specific. I do a great deal of horrible things to people."
"smart ass," I laughed and took a seat on his desk,
"he is a horrible person. Why are we friends with him again" Ethan shifted in his seat to look at us
"Someone has, too," I sighed. There was a knock on the door, but this time, they waited for Baxter to say enter. Max and Darrel walked in
"Hey, Darrel," I waved from my position on the edge of the desk. He ran over and squeezed my life out before depositing me on the couch with him and Max.
"I just saved your life right there," he muttered to me, but due to wolf hearing, everyone knew what he said.
"My mate is indeed a hero because our alpha has quite the temper when people are near his desk," Max added.
"shut up, you too. I am not that bad now. If it were my beta, he would have murdered you." Baxter rose from his seat behind the desk, flopped on Ethan's couch, and landed on his legs.
"goddess, you lard, are you trying to crush me" Ethan shouted out
"Just because you are a stick..." Baxter responded
"would you all focus on the matter at hand," I said
"Right, sorry now, which bus did I throw you under, and was this a figurative bus or a literal one," Baxter asked, looking at me
"my, you are in a good mood today," I muttered
"that is because he is thinking there is a chance he is getting a new beta soon," Max said
"Baby, are you challenging for the position?" Darrel asked,
"No, there is a new wolf to the pack, and he is a solid fighter. We shouldn't get our hopes up since he needs to be tested against the more experienced fighters," Max explained
"Wait, wouldn't that mean that the current beta would take the gamma position," I asked "We are working on the details on that one," Baxter explained.
"So far, we think that this wolf... um... McCoy has a shot, and he might deal a good amount of damage to my beta, and then we can have people challenge him down until he is out of our hair."
"or he may challenge Alpha Baxter if he loses, and that is always a fight to the death, so Alpha Baxter kills the current beta, and all is calm in the pack ranks."
"Isn't there a danger that the wolf McCoy challenges the Alpha, and then he is dead, and now the ranks stay how they are," I asked.
"There is, but this wolf strikes me as a follower, so we are good. So now what did I do to you" Baxter asked
"right." I reached over and smacked his shoulder, "You made me the liaison to the pack, which displaced another witch who now has a grudge against me. She is telling the coven, I slept with you to get the position."
"I mean, if you don't want her to be telling lies, I can give you a go," he responded like the cocky bastard that he is.
"no, I am. expressing. my. displeasure. at. you. meddling. in. witch. business." I smacked him once for every word.
"you are so lucky my wolf finds your weak little slaps amusing, and if it bothers you, I can say I changed my mind. I just hated that old witch. She was so boring."
"don't bother. There is nothing that is going to stop them now."
"you could always hang out more with us and say you are working," Max offered
"Now that is something I can get behind," I responded before we moved on to a new conversation.
