Chapter 166
A Crazy Night Novel
Chapter 166 The Dessert As Linda wasnât a cultured lady in the first place, she couldnât compare herself to Julia, who came from an illustrious family.
The verbal sparring between the two ladies didnât come as a surprise to Felicia too.
She then turned her attention to Julia and said, âSince youâre aware of your difference in status, you should be more forgiving of others.â
Even though she sounded as if she was standing up for Linda, Felicia was clearly taking Juliaâs side.
As a woman herself, she empathized with the humiliation Julia had suffered all these years.
Lindaâs face lost all color in her rage. Felicia had never shown her any respect and would always favor Julia over her.
As tears of aggrievement welled up in her eyes, she informed Charlie, âIâm not feeling well. Please send me home.â
She couldnât care less about the words of those who didnât respect her.
All she needed to do was ensure that Charlieâs heart was hers.
While speaking, she leaned against Charlieâs shoulder and pretended to swoon.
However, Felicia responded with a look of disdain before getting up to leave.
As for Charlie, he pushed her aside with an awkward expression. âIf youâre not feeling well, Iâll get the driver to send you home.â
âArenât you coming with me?â Linda wondered if she had misheard.
All this while, Charlie would return to Jadeborough with me on the second day. Is he planning to this time?
way back with Julia âIt has always been a rush every year. I never get to spend time properly with my family.â When Charlie threw Julia a glance, his darkened expression brightened up a little. âIâm going inside first.â
Upon getting to his feet, he strode back into the house.
âCharlie...â Tears of exasperation almost gushed out of Lindaâs eyes.
With a frosty gaze, Julia relished in schadenfreude when she saw the dejection on Lindaâs face. âMen will leave you the more you want them. If you let them be, theyâll return when itâs time to do so.â
Linda didnât miss the sarcasm in Juliaâs words at all.
âOnce Charlie was out of sight, she dropped her civil facade and snapped, âHeâll return to my side regardless of whether I tell him to. Thatâs because he doesnât have any feelings for you at all!â
âItâs been a long time since I cared about him having feelings for me,â Julia sneered. âYou might have been able to rely on your looks to attract him in the past, but time has been unkind to you. Iâm afraid it will be difficult for you to hold onto him. One day, when you no longer mean anything to him, heâll return to my side. Iâll always be Mrs. Hadley to him, while youâre nothing but a piece of garbage he can easily be rid of!â
+3 Bonus That was the reason why Julia refused a divorce back then. She didnât see why she should give up her place to Linda.
She had wanted to let Linda waste away her youth, for it was too early to know who would be the last one laughing in the end.
Even without Julia pointing it out, the fact wasnât lost upon Linda. In front of the former, Linda would have to behave like a coward, someone who could never hold her head up high in public.
As Linda gave the calm Julia a piercing glare, she questioned her, âWhy do you insist on not letting Charlie go when you clearly donât love him? I canât believe how vicious you are.â.
If Julia had been willing to back out back then, she wouldnât have had to suffer a lifetime of ridicule.
âMe? Vicious? I definitely canât beat you in that department. For breaking up my family and causing my son to miss out on fatherly love, Iâm not going to let you off easily!â
Thereafter, Julia got to her feet as she exuded the authority of the lady of the house. After scowling in Lindaâs direction, she turned around elegantly and entered the house.
Lindaâs eyes burned with rage, as if they could sear Juliaâs silhouette to a crisp. âJulia, I beat you once in the past, and Iâll beat you again now!â
She figured that if she were to leave, she would only be giving Charlie and Julia the opportunity to rekindle their relationship.
With that thought in mind, she decided to stay.
Narrowing her eyes cunningly, she thought of an idea to finally capture Charlieâs heart once and for all.
Upon entering the kitchen, Linda brought out a bowl of dessert.
She encountered Christina on her way out and almost bumped into her.
âIâm sorry, Ms. Macall. Did I get it on you?â Christina asked in a concerned tone as she brought out a tissue to help Linda clean up.
With her bad mood worsened by Feliciaâs mockery of her gown, Linda vented her frustration on Christina by slapping the latterâs hand away.
âI canât believe how crafty you are. You gave my gown a flamboyant design so that Mrs. Hadley could embarrass me to my face.â
Christina froze as she was confused by the accusatory words. âIâve already told you about it. It was you who insisted on this design.â
Why is she blaming me now when I clearly highlighted the problem to her back then?
The mere thought of Christina taking Juliaâs side infuriated Linda.
âAm I the designer or are you? Why did you follow my instructions when you clearly know that they were wrong? Donât you have an opinion of your own?â
Christina suddenly felt as if a boulder was weighing down on her chest. The sense of suffocation it brought rendered her speechless.
As someone younger, it would be rude for her to talk back. All Christina could do was let out a sigh before walking off.
However, Linda grabbed her hand and gave her a look of displeasure. âDid I say that you could leave?â
She then placed the tray in Christinaâs hands and instructed, âTake this dessert to Charlieâs room.â
Throwing the dessert a glance, Christina didnât refuse. âOkay.â
As Christina went upstairs with the dessert, Linda watched on with an insidious smile.
Now that Charlie was angry, he might not accept the dessert from Linda. However, it was a different matter if Christina was the one who served it to him.
A while later, inside the room, Charlie was going through the documents on his desk with an empty dessert bowl placed in the corner.
Lindaâs eyes glistened smugly, as she had added something special into it.
After putting on leopard print pajamas, she sat in front of the mirror to put on makeup. While doing so, she watched Charlie discreetly.
Whatâs wrong? Why isnât Charlie reacting after consuming the dessert?
Feeling distracted, Linda quickly sprayed some perfume on herself before going over to his side.
âCharlie, why donât you stay in my room tonight?â
Amidst the scent of heavy perfume, Linda sat on Charlieâs lap and broke into an inviting smile.
Stung by the sudden onset of Lindaâs perfume, Charlie furrowed his brows and sneezed continuously.
âI had better not. It would upset Mom.â He cooked up a random excuse before pushing her away.
After that, he walked to the door, seemingly to avoid her. âIâm going back there to rest.â
His response surprised Linda.
Why isnât he reacting to it? Has the effects not kicked in yet?
Refusing to give up, Linda hugged Charlie from behind and began peppering his face with kisses.
âDarling, stay with me. You can go back later.â
Charlieâs face was soon covered with lipstick. In his annoyance, he pushed her aside and reprimanded her, âStop fooling around.â
