Chapter 262
A Crazy Night Novel
Chapter 262 Suspicious Transaction Christina felt Holly had no reason to lie. She wondered if the incident was really unrelated to the latter.
âMs. Steele, donât worry about getting taken revenge on. Normally, such an attempt to injure others is considered a criminal case, and the suspect wonât be allowed to leave once the case is filed.â The police officer thought Christina was afraid of suffering vengeance, prompting her to soften her stance.
Otherwise, why would a victim doubt if the perpetrator was actually guilty?
Christina immediately waved her hands, indicating he had misunderstood her. âIâm not concerned about that.â
The police officer nodded before pointing at the last blank space on the paper. âYou can leave after you sign here.â
After signing the paper, she thanked the police officer before turning around and leaving.
When the two exited the police station, Sebastian was already waiting for them at the entrance with the car. They got into the vehicle, and Sebastian drove off.
Christina sat in the backseat and appeared lost in thought as she recalled the events of the past month. Complicated emotions churned within her.
She couldnât shake off the feeling that things werenât as simple as they seemed. Holly firmly denies she hired someone to hurt me, and if sheâs really the mastermind, she would have no way to defend herself in the face of evidence. The only explanation is that she might not be the mastermind but just the slanderer in the cyberbullying and defamation incidents. In that case, does that mean someone else hired that man to harm me?
In the end, she figured she didnât need to trouble herself with the speculation because she believed the police would uncover the truth and provide her with an explanation.
Christinaâs mind buzzed, and the tingling pain of his wound intensified. She inhaled sharply in frustration.
Suddenly, someone placed a warm palm on her head and gently patted her. âWhatâs the matter? Does your wound hurt?â
Christina hummed coyly in agreement, rubbing Nathanielâs hand beside her right cheek. She was fond of the scent of his palm.
Leaning her body against him, she nestled into his arms. âWhere are we going?â
âWeâre going home,â he replied indifferently, allowing her to snuggle down in his embrace.
âMy head is injured, so I donât want to return to Sharbrook Manor. Letâs go back to Scenic Garden Manor.â She pouted. âBy the way, donât tell our elders about this to avoid distressing them.â
He caressed her cheeks and agreed, âOkay.â
Christina fell silent and shut her eyes, drifting off to sleep while breathing in Nathanielâs familiar perfume scent.
Meanwhile, inside the detention room, Hollyâs bank card transaction was being investigated. She had indeed used the card to pay the group of actors. The matter of hiring trolls to carry out cyberbullying was also confirmed.
The punishments for committing those two crimes wouldnât be too severe even if she were proven guilty. However, Holly didnât hire someone to harm Christina, so she would never admit the criminal charges.
The current evidence included the attackerâs confession and a suspicious payment from an international bank transfer.
The police couldnât ascertain if the person who made the international fund transfer was Holly, so they couldnât convict her yet.
Nevertheless, the evidence was not in her favor.
The Jenson family hired the best lawyer to defend her. When meeting with her father, Holly cried miserably. âDad, you must believe me. I didnât hire anyone to hurt Christina.â
âI know youâve been wronged, and I will definitely seek justice for you. I wonât allow you to be falsely accused.â Grief and anger filled Robert Jensonâs eyes. Although my daughter is willful, she isnât malicious enough to commit such a heinous act! Who dared to frame my daughter? Iâm going to find the person responsible for this and make them pay dearly!
When Christina opened her eyes again, they were already back at Scenic Garden Manor.
Nathaniel carried her into the house and stepped into the dimly lit bedroom. She immediately stretched her body after he placed her on the bed. âMy back hurts, having sat in the car for so long.â
âWhere does it hurt? Do you want me to massage it for you?â
Christina took up his offer with alacrity. She rolled over on the bed and drawled, âSure, but remember to be gentle because youâre too strong.â
Nathaniel wasnât adept at taking care of others. He lifted her shirt, revealing her smooth, flawless skin.
He casually rubbed her back in an untrained manner, causing Christina to giggle as it was itchy. âDonât just knead at random. You should start from the top and slowly work your way down.â
âLike this?â
Nathaniel pressed her back with his palms, following the contour of her figure. Subsequently, Christina finally quieted down as she thoroughly enjoyed his âservice.â
Perhaps due to the sedative effect of the anti-inflammatory medication, Christina grew drowsy and drifted off to sleep.
The morning sunlight flooded into the room through the glass window, heralding a new day with its warm glow.
When Christina opened her eyes, she could feel the wound on her head was recovering well, but it still hurt when she touched it with her hand.
She got up, freshened up, and changed into a pair of fresh clothes before exiting the room.
Raymond approached her with breakfast. A glass of milk and a bowl of oatmeal were placed on the tray. Normally, Nathaniel wouldnât go downstairs to have breakfast whenever he was busy.
âLet me bring it in.â Christina reached out to take the tray from Raymondâs hand.
âAll right. Should I bring up another serving?â he asked.
She replied, âThatâs not needed. Iâll go downstairs to have my breakfast later.â
With that, she entered the study while holding the tray of breakfast.
Christina widened her eyes at the sight of the pile of documents neatly arranged on the right corner of the polished desk and exclaimed, âNo way. You have so many documents to deal with?â
Sebastian, standing at one side, shrugged and chimed in resignation, âUsually, no matter how busy Mr. Hadley was, he would find time to check the documents and address some urgent issues. However, he spent all his time keeping you company recently. Thatâs why all the work has piled up.â
Christina carefully recalled her time in the hospital. Nathaniel did devote himself to taking care of me, not looking at his phone or answering any calls. There were so many times when the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes after the anesthesia wore off was his handsome face...
She felt warmth surging within her chest as those sweet memories flashed across her mind.
âYou must eat your breakfast regardless of how busy you are.â Christina took away the documents before Nathaniel and placed the tray in front of him. Then, she turned to look at Sebastian. âYou must be tired too, Sebastian. Go downstairs and have some breakfast.â
âOkay.â Sebastian cleared his throat and tactfully turned around to leave the room.
Christina picked up the glass of milk and held it close to Nathanielâs lips. There were sparkles in her eyes, giving her an adorable appearance.
He stretched out his slender arm to pull her into his embrace. Christina lost her balance and almost spilled the milk on him.
She finally steadied her arm with much difficulty. âHurry up and drink. Itâs bad for your stomach when the milk turns cold.â
âOkay.â Nathaniel received the glass and took a few sips of the milk.
âYou took care of me for the past few days, so itâs my turn to serve you today.â She lifted the bowl of oatmeal and fed him spoon by spoon.
While the two were enjoying their breakfast, a knock sounded at the door, followed by Madisonâs entry. As soon as she stepped into the room and saw Christina snuggling in Nathanielâs embrace, jealousy crept into her heart. âMrs. Hadley, howâs your injury?
Did they catch the culprit?â
Christina was slightly taken aback. She thought Sebastian had told Madison about what had happened to her. âItâs just a minor injury, and the police have caught the person who harmed me. Evil people get what they deserve, right?â
The expression on Madisonâs face stiffened. Then, she chuckled. âYouâre always right, Mrs. Hadley.â
