Epilogue
Falling for my Husband
Okay, first things first. I'm banning everyone from using the word 'shipper' from now on. No one will say shipper cause my mind refuses to read it anything other than stripper. And stop calling David a stripper. What's wrong with you people? Everytime I think about him now, I imagine this huge bodyguard in a black suit ripping off his jacket and twirling around a pole on some sexy song. Thanks for the image guys. *stares at you blankly with a hand on her waist*
Also, many of you want a story on Maahi and Rohan but I won't be writing it. I had decided this long before and I'm sticking to my decision. And yes, I was sipping chocolate shake on my date with Lucifer in hell when I leaded you guys on with the bonus chapter. *evil laughter* I. Regret. Nothing. *evil laughter intensifies*
And the epilogue is finally here :)
PS- Aditya, Kriti and Raj are the children from the orphanage and they will be mentioned in the epilogue so go read chapter 34 if you have any confusion.
P. P. S. - We won the South Asian Awards. Yayy!
Happy reading meanwhile I'mma go cry somewhere cause oh my god, it's the epilogue!
10 years later-
Kiara's POV
"Oreo?"
"Oreo!?"
"Oreo? Where are you?" I yelled louder, looking around desperately.
Dammit.
Arjun was going to kill me.
I've lost Oreo for the second time this week.
"OREO!"
Where was he?
I had only stepped away for a minute to answer a call and when I came back, Oreo was gone.
I placed a hand on my forehead, my eager eyes roaming around the lawn in search of the familiar brown colour. Just as I was about to lose all hope, my eyes spotted the teddy bear lying on the grass near a tree and I sighed in relief.
"Oh, thank god. You're here." I rushed there and picked up the teddy bear, brushing away the dirt from its fur.
Anvi would have thrown a fit if she had found out her precious Oreo was missing.
As if on cue, I heard her loud giggles and whirled around to see Arjun walking with our 5-year-old daughter in his arms. My lips curved in a soft smile as I looked at them. Anvi had a wide grin on her face as she rambled on about something, her pigtails swinging with every step Arjun took. My dear husband, on the other hand, looked one second away from murdering someone.
Okay, who pissed off the Hulk again?
It was definitely not Anvi because he can never get angry on her. All it takes is a wobbling lower lip and a tiny tear drop trailing down her cheek and he's ready to do anything to make her smile again.
.
.
.
Yes, she learnt it from me.
And I've never been prouder.
Arjun came to a stop in front of me and I cocked a questioning brow at the displeased scowl etched on his face.
"Momma!" Anvi squealed, making grabbing hands at me and I took her from her raging dragon father.
"Hey, baby." I cooed, tapping her chin and she nestled her head in the crook of my neck giggling. I patted her back and her little arms wound around my neck, making me melt in a puddle.
Kids are so freaking cute sometimes, oh god.
"What happened?" My question was directed at Arjun but it was Anvi who answered me.
She perked up at the question and awarded me with her biggest toothy smile. "I got married, momma!"
Okay, what?
I faced Arjun with a confused smile. He stared back at me with a can-you-believe-it look, gesturing towards our daughter who seemed to be ecstatic on getting hitched. "That happened."
Oh, this is gonna be interesting.
"Is that so?" I looked at Anvi with an amused grin, tickling her. "And whom did you marry?"
She squealed with laughter. "Aarav."
If possible, Arjun's face turned sourer and I bit my lip to stop the loud laugh that was ready to escape me.
So, this is what got him all riled up.
Aarav was Anushka and Sid's son, a couple months older than our Anvi.
"Good choice." I nodded in appreciation and Arjun whipped his head to me, horrified. Just to mess with him a bit more, I turned to Anvi and smiled cheekily, "I approve. You have my blessing for this marriage."
Arjun's face turned pale. "No, wh- Stop encouraging her!"
"But why, daddy?" Anvi pouted. "Aarav is a good husband."
Arjun's jaw dropped open, his eyes widening to the point where they were ready to roll out of his sockets and I couldn't hold it anymore as I cackled like a hyena. After a couple of horrifying moments, he managed to morph his shocked features in a stern look, the one he rarely used with her. "Aarav is not your husband, Miss Singhania."
"I'm Mrs. Oberoi now." Anvi announced proudly and Arjun choked on air.
He looked one step away from a cardiac arrest. "No, you're not! You're a Singhania. And you will be a Singhania until you're 50. No more discussions."
"Okay, calm down." I placed a hand on his shoulder. If I hadn't interrupted, the angry forehead vein would've burst by now.
"Did you hear what she said?" His strained voice and panicked expression only made me want to laugh more.
Control.
"Yes. And she's five. They are kids and they were only playing. Talking about kids," I glanced around questioningly. "where is our son-in-law?"
The glare I received from my human glacier was cold enough to reverse global warming.
Arjun closed his eyes for a moment, taking in a deep breath. "I swear to God, princess, if you say that once again..."
He was cut off by Anvi. "Uncle Sid!" She squealed in joy as Sid made his way towards us.
"There's my favorite girl in the world." Sid exclaimed and extended his arms towards her but Arjun beat him to it as he took Anvi from me before Sid could react.
Wounding a protective arm around her, he pointed the other at Sid threateningly. "You! Keep your son away from my daughter."
Sid stopped in his tracks. "What hap-" His eyes widened, "Fuck. Oh god, don't tell me Aarav taught another bad word to Anvi? Shit, shit, shit. Anushka is going to kill me. Where the fuck does he learn these words from? God fucking dammit, what the hell."
I resisted the urge to face-palm and glanced at the sky for help.
This man is soon going to be a father of two kids.
Crossing arms over my chest, I looked at the rambling idiot and smiled sweetly. "Take a guess, Mr. Oberoi."
His face paled as realization dawned upon him. "Fuck-"
I clamped a hand on his mouth and hissed lowly. "Stop cursing. There are kids here."
His terrified gaze flickered to Anvi who blinked at us with innocent, curious eyes while Arjun had the side of her head pressed against his chest and his free hand covering her other ear so that she couldn't hear the curses flying out of Sid's mouth.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" Arjun exclaimed angrily.
"Arjun!" I admonished.
"Fuck-Sh- Oh god."
I face-palmed.
Who thought it was a good idea for us to have children?
Almost everyone around me had a colourful vocabulary and had kids. It was a difficult task to keep our language in check around them.
"Aarav didn't teach another bad word to her, calm down." I told Sid, lowering my hand.
"Then what got his knickers in a twist?" He tilted his head towards my pissed-off husband who was still glaring at him.
"Your son eloped with my daughter!" Arjun snapped.
Oh god.
What am I gonna do with this man?
"What he means to say is that they were playing." I stepped in to explain and stared blankly at Arjun. "Like other children do."
"Oh. Oh. OH." Sid's face broke in a Cheshire Cat grin. "I am so proud of Aarav. I guess the trait of annoying Arjun runs in our family a- Wait a second!" His head whipped to Arjun, "Is my son still alive or did you kill him already?"
"He has gone to work, uncle Sid. I'm going to make lunch for him." Anvi announced like a dutiful wife.
Arjun's face seemed to have stuck between disbelief and horror as he listened to his daughter talk about how she was going to make chocolate cake for her new husband.
"Sure! You do that, sweetheart." Sid smiled and clapped his hands together. "Meanwhile, I will go and make sure my son did not die by the hands of his father-in-law. Hopefully, I won't find him buried six feet under the ground."
He walked away, muttering how he needed to train Aarav to run faster in case Arjun finally had enough of him.
"Mommy, where's Oreo?" Anvi looked around eagerly and I handed her the teddy bear, chuckling softly. She was extremely possessive of her belongings.
Her eyes twinkled as she hugged Oreo with a happy sigh. Mrs. Singhania had gifted her this bear a year back and Anvi had taken an immediate liking to it, so much that she carried it around almost everywhere.
"I'm hungry." Anvi announced all of a sudden, her lips forming an adorable pout.
Arjun brushed away a few strands of hair falling on her forehead. "And what does my little princess want to eat?"
She threw her hands in air. "Chocs!"
She couldn't say 'chocolates' yet, so she liked to call them 'chocs'. To Arjun's horror, Anvi had inherited her love for chocolates from me.
"Of course." Arjun chuckled as his soft gaze slid to me. "Like mother, like daughter."
I stuck out my tongue at him and his smile widened, my own silly smile mirroring his.
"Whipped!" Anvi quipped and both Arjun and I snapped our heads to her.
What did she just say?
"Anvi!" I gawked at her, horrified. "Who taught you that word?"
She looked at us innocently. "Aunt Maahi! She said I have to say 'whipped' when mommy and daddy smile at each other like this.
I-
Two hours. I leave Anvi with Maahi for two hours and that's what she teaches her.
I knew letting Maahi and Rohan babysit Anvi was a bad idea.
Arjun coughed lightly, trying to hide his laugh but I saw right through it.
"This isn't funny, Arjun." I snapped.
"Oh, but it is." He winked.
"Daddy, put me down." Anvi tried to wriggle out of his hold and he gently set her down.
"Oh no." She gasped as she looked at her imaginary watch on her wrist, "Aarav will be home soon. I need to make cake for him."
"Wha-" Before Arjun could say anything, she skipped away excitedly and almost ran into Ritu who had just entered the estate. Ritu caught her in time as Anvi looked up and said something. Ritu smiled and both of them walked away hand-in-hand, probably to the kitchen.
Arjun looked back at me, his jaw clenched tight. "We need to do something."
"About what?"
"My new son-in-law!"
I laughed loudly and walked closer to him. Snaking my hands around his neck, I raised on my tip-toes and kissed his jaw. "Calm down."
His jaw tightened and I waited for another moment. My lips curved in a victory smile when he exhaled a frustrated breath and his hands came to rest on my waist, his shoulders slightly relaxing. It made me giddy and extremely proud that I still had such an effect on him.
By now, his whole company knew I was the only one who could calm him down when he was angry. Every once in a while, I would receive calls from his terrified employees, asking me to come over to handle a very pissed-off Arjun.
Holding his hand, I dragged Arjun to the picnic mat we had laid in the front yard. He sat down and rested his back against a tree. I was going to sit beside him when he held my hand and pulled me down, settling me between his legs, my back touching his chest.
"I need you closer." He muttered against my neck, his arm wounding around my midriff. His lips skimmed over my skin and my heart started beating faster.
Anvi was right. I am whipped.
I relaxed against him as my eyes took in the huge mansion in front of me that Arjun had gifted me on my 25th birthday.
When he had handed me the keys to our house attached with a miniature Thor key ring, I had mistaken the key ring as my gift. I had jumped in joy and squealed at how cute mini Thor looked with his big blue eyes. Only when I had glanced at my shell-shocked husband and the are-you-fucking-kidding-me look on his face, did I realize something was wrong. He proceeded to tell me, with the same I'm-one-step-away-from-disowning-you expression, that the key was the gift and I almost had a heart attack, thinking he was gifting me some expensive car. He clarified that it wasn't a car and I had relaxed only for a second when he dropped another bombshell, giving me a bigger heart attack and told me that it was a mansion instead. A freaking mansion!
He just went and bought a mansion for my birthday!
When he took me for a tour of the place, I was awestruck by its beauty and we had immediately shifted here.
I leaned into Arjun, resting my head against his shoulder. "Remember when we found out I was pregnant?"
He let out a breath, a slight chuckle escaping him. "That was quite a revelation."
I laughed. "Right?"
I still remembered that day very well. It was a chaotic mess.
.
.
.
"You okay, princess? Do you need something?"
I shook my head and wounded an arm around Arjun's elbow. I was feeling a bit light-headed but didn't want to stress him out more than he already was. The weird hospital smell was making me a little nauseated and I resisted the urge to gag. I wanted to be out of here as soon as possible.
I had fainted yesterday morning and Arjun had immediately taken me to the hospital. Although, I had gained consciousness soon after, the doctor insisted on some tests to make sure nothing was wrong. The reports were supposed to come today but the doctor wasn't here yet.
Arjun turned to look back at the receptionist of the hospital, a deadly glare replacing his concerned expression.
"We've been waiting for the past fifteen minutes!" He banged his hand on the reception desk. "Where is the doctor!?"
The receptionist jumped in fear, struggling to come up with a proper explanation. "I-I don't know, sir. I called her but she didn't pick up the call."
Arjun leaned forward, his threatening glare effectively scaring the poor girl behind the desk. "Now, listen to me carefully. If she's not here within the next five minutes, I will shut down this entire hospital within the blink of an eye. I don't care what you're going to do but I want the doctor here before I lose my temper. Got it?"
And they say romance is dead.
Ladies, find someone who threatens people for you.
If he isn't ready to go to extreme measures just to show his concern for you, he isn't the one.
Just as I was busy admiring how hot he looked when he was angry, the receptionist's trembling voice snapped me from my trance.
"I only work here, sir."
And then I remembered I needed to intervene before he actually got someone fired. As hot as it would have been to see him all authoritative like that, I didn't want people to lose jobs because of me.
"Arjun." I placed a hand on his bicep to calm him down but he was busy throwing daggers at the poor girl who looked ready to cry. "Relax. It's not her fault. The doctor might be busy because of some important reason."
He raked a frustrated hand through his hair and blew an exasperated breath. I squeezed his hand lightly and some of the tension left his body.
Just then, a car screeched to a stop in front of the entrance and Dr. Shalini Chaudhary finally arrived. She was on a call so she didn't notice us and went straight to her cabin.
"She's here!" The receptionist nearly cried out in happiness and looked at us. "You can go to her cabin now."
"Fucking finally." Arjun muttered and put a hand on my back to escort me to the doctor's cabin.
"I'm sorry for my husband's behavior. He's a bit of a control freak." I passed an apologetic smile to the receptionist but judging by the look on her face, she was going to be scarred for life.
We entered the room where Dr. Shalini was seated behind her desk.
"Ah, Mr. And Mrs. Singhania." She exclaimed. "Please take a seat."
We sat in front of her as she shuffled through some papers.
"What do the reports say?" Arjun asked straight-forwardly.
Dr. Shalini eyed him with pursed lips. "Patience is a virtue, Mr. Singhania."
"And I lack those virtues. Now, tell me what's in the reports."
I face-palmed.
Dr. Shalini sighed and went through the reports, her face brightening in a small smile as she looked at me. "Congratulations, Mrs. Singhania. You're pregnant."
Silence.
Five seconds.
Ten seconds.
Twenty seconds.
And then-
"She's WHAT?"
"I'm WHAT NOW?"
Arjun and I yelled at the same time as my heart leaped out of my chest.
We stared at her like she had grown horns.
Had my ears stopped working?
"No." I gasped, my hand flying to my gaping mouth and leaned forward to get a better look at her face to see if she was lying. "What do you mean I'm pregnant?"
Arjun snatched the report from her hands and read it himself.
"Fuck." He stood up from his chair abruptly, pacing back and forth in the confined space. "This can't be happening. What did we do? Oh god."
I glanced at the result to confirm myself and colour drained from my face as I stared at the word 'positive'.
"Oh no, no, no, no." I gripped my hair.
"This is bad." Arjun muttered to himself. "This is bad."
"What are we going to do?" I shrieked.
"Is... everything okay?" Dr. Shalini seemed utterly bewildered as her eyes darted between the two of us.
Was she being serious?
"Of course not!"
"Do we look okay to you?" I snapped.
"Look at us." Arjun gestured wildly between us. "We are a mess."
"We can't even take care of ourselves properly. What makes you think it's a good idea for us to have a baby?" I cried out.
Arjun stepped forward and pointed at me. "She still cries when there's no chocolate left at home."
I gestured towards him. "He watches documentaries of psychopaths and serial killers for fun."
"She can't even walk straight on a plain ground. How will she walk around with a baby in her hands?"
"He threatens people when he wants to get something done. How do you think he will handle a child throwing a tantrum?" I threw my hands in air and tried to mimic Arjun the best I could. " 'Drink the damn milk or I will abandon you in a forest.'?"
Dr. Shalini seemed to be at a loss of words as she tried to think of something to say to us. "I... I don't think it would be that ...bad?"
"That bad?" Arjun seethed as he pinned her with his murderous glare. "My wife is crazy! Do you know what happens if she becomes a mom? Our kid will go around calling Chris Hemsworth his real dad."
"And what if our child inherits Arjun's anger issues? Can you imagine a 2-year-old kid glaring at adults because they refuse to give him more chocolates?" I put my head in my hands and then glared at Arjun. "This is your fault."
"My fault?" He gave me an incredulous look in return. "Who asked you to wear the black dress that day?"
"Who gifted it to me in the first place?"
"You were the one who wanted to do it in the par-"
"Because you were seducing me-"
"I wasn't the one dancing like th-"
"And I wasn't the one grinding-"
Dr. Shalini looked scared now as she scooted her chair a little away from us. "Do... Do y-you need some time alone?"
"NO!" We snapped at her at the same time.
Arjun looked back at me and my eyes widened.
"HA!" I stood up in a sudden movement, pointing at him accusingly. "See! You're doing that again."
His brows furrowed in confusion. "Doing what?"
"Looking at me like you want to eat me up."
His jaw hit the floor and he regarded me like I was insane. "I'm angry at you!" He howled in frustration.
"Exactly!"
"You know what? We're going home. We'll discuss it there."
"Fine!"
"Fine!"
And we stormed out of the cabin, hand-in-hand, leaving a terrified doctor behind.
.
.
.
Looking back now, I would say we handled things pretty nicely. Granted we did give the doctor and receptionist PTSD.
The truth was that it took us some time to get in terms with this new revelation. Obviously, we wanted kids but the pregnancy was unexpected. That's what scared me. The moment we reached home, I had started stuffing my mouth with ice cream, seconds away from a nervous breakdown. Arjun seemed to be having a panic attack of his own, sitting beside me in complete silence and staring at nothing in particular. Halfway through my ice-cream, he had snatched the tub from my hand and started eating, still staring into space. I just stood up and brought another XL tub and we both spent the next hour eating ice cream in silence.
Five minutes later, Arjun scared the shit out of me when he ripped the ice-cream tub out of my hands, asking me frantically if it was healthy for me or the baby the amount of ice-cream I just had. We panicked again and I called mom and Mrs. Singhania who rushed to our place and knocked some sense into us. They were the ones who got us calm and collected and we went back to the hospital to listen to what else Dr. Shalini had to say.
The next nine months were hard- morning sickness, intensified midnight cravings, random mood swings and what not. But Arjun never lost his temper with me. He was so patient and understanding that I had to confirm it was indeed me who was pregnant and not him.
When I had asked him how he managed to keep up with me, he had rolled his eyes and replied with- 'We've been married for six years. I'm already used to your mood swings. It can't get any worse than that.'
And I swear to God whoever says delivering a child isn't that painful, I'd whack them with Thor's hammer in the face. It was probably the most difficult time of my life (other than the one time our families caught Arjun and I making out) -
.
.
.
"OH MY GOD!" I screamed, clutching my belly as another contraction hit me. "ARJUN!"
Doctors and nurses rushed around me but I couldn't focus on anything except the excruciating pain that felt like I was dying.
"I'm here, princess, I-"
"I'm sorry sir I can't let you in-"
"GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY WAY, SHE'S MY WIFE."
A crash sounded in the room followed by a scared shriek that sounded very much like the stupid anesthesiologist. Either Arjun had killed him or pushed him aside to get to me. I really hoped it was the former because he was getting on my nerves.
A hand touched my forehead and I opened my eyes to see Arjun looking at me with wide, concerned eyes. "I'm here, baby."
"Thank g- FUCK." I held his other hand tightly and took in deep breaths. "Oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god."
Panic flashed across Arjun's face and he cupped my jaw as gently as he could, his thumb wiping the stray tear rolling down my cheek.
"Hey, hey." The soft baritone of his voice soothed my nerves and I found myself calming down a little. "Look at me."
I did as he asked and he gave me an encouraging smile, pressing his lips to my forehead. "You're doing so good, princess."
He pushed my hair back, his anxious eyes taking in my exhausted state.
I could see that he was nervous, probably even more than me but he was trying to hold it together for my sake.
"It. Hurts." I gritted in pain.
Arjun snapped his head towards the doctor. "Well? What are you waiting for? Make her stop hurting!"
Dr. Shalini stopped what she was doing and stared at him. After three-very-long seconds, she realized he was being serious. She cleared her throat. "The contractions will stop after the baby comes out, Mr. Singhania."
"Then take the baby out!"
She blinked. "That's.. not how it works a-...you know what? We'll try our best. You just..try to keep Mrs. Singhania calm."
Arjun turned back to me and wiped the sweat from my forehead, my hand still clutching his in a tight grip.
"I went to office for an hour and you managed to get yourself in trouble." He chuckled softly, trying to distract me.
"I just.. squealed a little loudly when Chris came on screen. It's-" I exhaled heavily. "not my fault my water broke at that time."
"Of course, it's Chris's fault." Arjun nodded seriously, running his hand through my hair.
I tried to glare at him but my facial muscles were too tired to do anything other than open my mouth to scream.
"Wait," My brows furrowed as I realized something, "where is Sid? I thought you were coming with him?"
"I was. Well, I was driving and I accidentally crossed a yellow light in haste. A traffic policeman stopped us and we got out of the car but I didn't have time for that because you were here. So, I pushed Sid towards the officer when he was distracted and ran here to you."
I completely forgot about my pain for a moment as I gaped at him. "You did WHAT?"
"Don't look at me like that. I wasn't going to miss the birth of my child over a speeding ticket."
"... And Sid?" I managed to ask after a complete minute of silence. Shocked silence from me, indifferent silence from him.
"He'll manage." Arjun shrugged non-chalantly.
"But-" Another contraction hit me like a wave of endless pain and I shut my eyes tightly, barely suppressing a scream.
"Come on, Mrs. Singhania." The anesthesiologist said from my other side, his voice almost bored. "It's not that hard. You just have to push. Be a little more tolerant."
My eyes flew open as I let out a deafening scream. "AAAAARRRGGHHHHH." Grabbing his shirt roughly, I yanked him closer and yelled in his face. "YOU TRY PUSHING A FUCKING HUMAN OUT OF YOUR BODY IF IT'S SO EASY, BITCH."
He took a startled step back, his face shocked at my outburst. Before I could pick the sharp scalpel from the tray beside me and stab him in the gut, Arjun held my arm.
I turned to face him, ready to argue with him to leave me so that I could murder that idiot but one look at my husband's passive face and I closed my mouth.
He was staring at the anesthesiologist, his face devoid of any emotions.
Arjun looked calm.
Too calm.
Uh-oh.
Without a word, he took out his phone and dialled a number. "Peyush? I have a job for you." His eyes were trained on the anesthesiologist's name tag. "I'll text you the details."
He cut the call and glared at the anesthesiologist. "Step back."
The anesthesiologist decided it was the last day of his life as he had the audacity to look affronted. He opened his mouth to say something but Dr. Shalini held his hand immediately, vigorously shaking her head. He shut his mouth and Arjun pinned him with his steely gaze until he stepped back.
Satisfied between the distance between the idiot and us, my lovely devil looked back at me, his face softening in concern. "How are you feeling, princess? Do you need anything?"
"We are not doing this ever again!" I gritted.
Arjun looked like a deer caught in headlights. "Sex?" He gulped.
"Wha- NO. The baby!"
"Oh, right. Okay, okay." Relief flooded in his eyes and he brushed away the few tendrils that were scattered on my face.
"It's time." Dr. Shalini announced as she wore gloves and the pain returned stronger than ever.
"Arjun." I was sobbing now. "It hurts so much."
"Hey, hey, hey." He cradled my face in his hands and touched his forehead to mine. "Come on, princess. You've got this. Look at me."
My tear-filled eyes met his anxious ones.
"You killed a cockroach last night, didn't you? All on your own. That was so brave of you. You're so strong. You can do this. I know you can." He wiped my tears and kissed my cheek. "I love you so much."
My eyes shut close.
I was so tired.
I couldn't do this. I didn't have any energy left.
"And I'll buy you as many chocolates as you want."
My left eye slowly fluttered open. And then the right one.
"Chocolates?"
Arjun smiled softly. "Loads of them."
"Okay." I whispered. "For chocolates."
And after 1 hour 15 minutes of painful labor, our little bundle of joy- Anvi Singhania was born.
I had nearly died of exhaustion and was about to pass out when I remembered the important task at hand. I leaned on my elbow, looking at Dr. Shalini wrapping Anvi in a blanket.
"Please tell me she has dimples." I whispered weakly.
Dr. Shalini chuckled. "We can't tell that now."
"Okay, but I'm returning her to the hospital if she doesn't have dimples." I slumped back on the bed and closed my eyes.
"She's joking, right?" I heard a nurse whisper.
"I don't know." Another whisper answered her. "She seems crazy enough to do that."
"She's joking." It was Arjun who spoke this time. I opened my eyes and was greeted with his handsome face as he rubbed his thumb on the back of my hand. He paused and took a good look at my face. "Well, only ninety percent but yes."
"Mr. Singhania, will you like to hold the baby?" Dr. Shalini asked and he whipped his head to her, his eyes turning round as saucers as he gazed at Anvi.
He was frozen in his place and I gave him a weak nudge forward. He snapped his head to me, uncertainty written on his face.
I had never seen him this nervous before.
I smiled at him and nodded.
Ever so slowly, he walked towards Dr. Shalini and she handed him Anvi. Sucking in a sharp breath, he held her carefully as if she was a precious jewel. His eyes widened in awe as he gazed at our daughter, the soft expression on his face melting my heart.
"I'm gonna drop her." Arjun whispered, his voice frantic. "Kiara, I'm gonna drop her."
"You won't." I chuckled, although it hurt to do anything other than breathe.
A nurse took Anvi from him for some basic check-ups while Arjun came to me and cupped my cheek. "You okay, baby?"
"We're not doing this again." I rasped.
"Okay." He chuckled and pecked my lips. "Never again."
.
.
.
We ended up doing it again.
And the result was sleeping soundly in his stroller beside us. Our 1 year old son, Kabir Singhania.
This time it was Arjun's fault.
And this time Dr. Shalini was ready with rather big earmuffs when she broke the news to us.
Despite our insecurities and fears, Arjun and I did a pretty good job as parents with only a few slips here and there. Like the one time when Arjun took Anvi to shopping and ended up buying the whole shop because she couldn't decide if she wanted the yellow toy or the blue toy. Or the other time when I fed her chocolate cake for dinner because Ritu wasn't home and I had almost burnt the kitchen trying to make something for her.
We got a lot more careful though. Instead of baby-proofing the house, we had to Kia-proof the whole mansion to minimize the chances of me falling or tripping.
And Arjun, Dear Lord! He's so good with kids that I literally melt every single time he interacts with them.
I never thought he could get any hotter than he already was but the first time he held Anvi while he was shirtless and rocked her in his arms, I practically combusted into flames.
I turned my head to face Arjun and kissed his cheek. "Thank you for being such a great dad to our kids."
His surprised gaze slid to me but it soon turned into smugness as he gave me a cocky smirk in return. "I'm great at everything."
Chuckling, I shook my head.
He was stating facts. Arjun Singhania was, indeed, great at everything.
*cough* Everything. *cough*
"You, on the other hand..." He trailed off and I gasped, nudging my elbow at his side. He let out a small laugh and pressed a butterfly kiss on my neck. "You know I'm kidding. You're the best thing that ever happened to me. I wouldn't have had any of this without you."
His arms came around me and my heart soared in my chest as he buried his face in the crook of my neck, my lips pulling in a hopelessly-in-love-with-the-Hulk smile.
"Daddy!"
We immediately sprang apart.
The last time Anvi had caught us making out, she had started crying, thinking that Arjun was trying to eat me like in the zombie movie she had watched before. We had a hard time trying to calm her and make her understand that daddy was not going to eat mommy.
At least not in the way she thought.
Anvi waddled towards us with her tiny legs and at the same time Kabir started crying, waking up from his nap. I picked him up from his stroller and laid his head on my shoulder, patting his back lightly.
"Careful!" Arjun said loudly as Anvi increased her speed, her hands full with chocolates.
Thankfully, she isn't as clumsy as-
And she tripped.
On plain ground.
-me.
I spoke too soon.
Arjun was beside her in a blink. He helped Anvi stand up and brushed the dirt from her dress, checking for any injury. I expected her to be crying but she was giggling. "Silly me."
"So silly." He chuckled and after making sure she wasn't hurt, carried her in his arms.
"Ritu aunty gave me chocs!" She showed us her hands as Arjun sat beside me, settling her in his lap.
"Wow. So many chocolates." He exclaimed softly and took a tissue, wiping the chocolate smudged on her cheek.
Anvi grinned and almost thrusted her hands in Kabir's face. "Kabir! Look!"
I adjusted him in my arms so he was sitting in my lap, facing Anvi. He babbled some gibberish in response and either Anvi was very good at baby language or they had decoded their own new language as she nodded seriously at whatever he said.
"Did you talk to Rohan? When is he coming back?" I asked Arjun while our daughter was busy explaining our son how she was going to get a dolphin as her pet so they can ride on it to Narnia.
"He said he will be done with the work by Friday. And since Maahi is already done with hers, they will be here by Saturday."
When Rohan had returned to India all those years back, Maahi was furious with him. It had taken him one hell of a time to convince her but she had finally relented and decided to give him a chance. And now they were happily in love and engaged. I was so happy that it worked out for them.
Maahi was a travel-blogger so they were often travelling to different countries and right now, they were in France for a deal that Rohan needed to finalize.
"Saumya and Nandini will be here by Saturday too. Did you talk to the planner?"
It was our eleventh wedding anniversary next week and we were holding a small get-together for friends and family.
Gosh, I feel old.
"Yes. Everything is finalized. You need not worry." Arjun said. "Oh, and mom called this morning. She said she won't be able to make it because her friend's daughter's wedding is taking longer than expected."
"Why does my mom talk to you more than she ever did with me?" I narrowed my eyes at him and punched his arm lightly. "Stop stealing my parents. They love you more than me."
"Well, who doesn't?" He raised a brow, his lips spreading in a cocky smile.
I rolled my eyes at his smug response. No matter how grumpy I sounded, I couldn't be happier about the bond he and mom shared. He had also gotten close to Mrs. Singhania over time and although she couldn't take his mom's place, he respected her. And that was enough for the both of them.
"And we're inviting Tushar too." I said.
Arjun groaned. "Not that little shit."
Gasping aloud, I shifted my wide eyes to Anvi but she was busy telling Kabir about her plans for the weekend.
Thank god she didn't hear that.
I looked back at Arjun blankly. "You know it wasn't his fault."
He cocked a brow and I sighed.
"Come on. He's dating Aditya." I tried a different tactic. "How will he feel if we invite Aditya and not him?"
His face still remained passive. "Does it look like I care?"
My husband is impossible sometimes.
I'm a professor at the same college Tushar and Aditya study in. Tushar, having no idea who I was, tried to get my number because of a dare and Mr. Look-at-her-one-more-time-and-I'll-punch-you was royally pissed.
.
.
.
Checking my watch for the third time in the past five minutes, I waited for Arjun to grace me with his presence. We had to attend a business party this evening and I wanted to rest for some time before dealing with those fake gossiping hyenas.
"Excuse me?"
I turned around to look at a boy standing there with a cocky expression.
"Yes?"
"Damn! You're gorgeous."
I blinked. "I'm sorry?"
"Hi, I'm Tushar. I couldn't help but notice a beautiful girl like you standing all on your own."
I crossed arms over my chest, an amused smile curving my lips as I noticed the i-card hanging around his neck. He was a student.
"Do you know who I am?" I raised a brow.
"An angel from heaven?" He asked hopefully.
It took everything in me to not burst out laughing at his pathetic attempt of flirting.
Kids these days.
"I'm a professor." I told him. "And way older than you."
"Very Bollywood-y, don't you think?" He smiled cheekily. "You're a professor, I'm a student. All that's left is some people with violins behind me playing a romantic song."
I was going to politely decline him when I spotted Aditya making his way towards us. His eyes caught mine and he smiled.
"Hey, Kiara." He called out and I waved at him. Aditya was pursuing his masters degree in the same college. He wanted to start his own business and was currently interning with Arjun's company, too.
Aditya widened his eyes in horror when he noticed Tushar beside me. He speed-walked towards us and held Tushar's elbow, pulling him back frantically. His voice was hysterical when he whisper-yelled in his ear. "Abort! Abort! Mission abort! Abort the fucking mission."
Tushar rolled his eyes and shrugged out of his hold. "Chill. I've got it covered. I'm gonna win that dare." He turned towards me with a confident expression. "So, can I have your number?"
Aditya slapped a hand over his face and closed his eyes in regret, shaking his head.
I had a hard time trying to hide my grin. "I'm already married."
"There. She said she's married." Aditya immediately interrupted, looking around cautiously as if Arjun would pop out of nowhere. "Let's leave."
Tushar regarded him weirdly. "Why are you acting as if her husband is gonna come here and beat us up?"
"Because I'm sure he actually will-" Aditya said but was cut off by his friend.
"Come on, let the pretty lady answer for herself. I'm sure your husband won't mind." Tushar winked at me.
"And I'm pretty sure he definitely would." A new voice interrupted us as a hard chest pressed against my back and a hand came to rest on my waist.
I watched in amusement as colour drained from Tushar's face.
"S-sir?"
"Do you know him?" I turned to glance at my husband who was now trying to bury Tushar under the ground with his eyes.
"He's an intern in our company, working with Aditya." Arjun replied, not moving his gaze from the petrified guy in front of us.
"I see." I nodded.
Arjun's jaw ticked, the vein on his forehead quite prominent, "Were you flirting with my wife, Tushar?"
"Wife!?" He squeaked.
"That's what I've been trying to tell you." Aditya smiled nervously as he clamped a forceful hand on Tushar's shoulder. "Kiara is Arjun's wife." He stressed on each word.
Tushar paled even further.
"Arjun," Aditya started cautiously. "It was a dare. Tushar was supposed to talk to a girl for five minutes."
"And did that include asking for her number too?" Arjun raised a brow.
"I- well... you see.. uh" Tushar gulped.
"Stop scaring the poor kid." I whispered to Arjun.
He looked at me incredulously. "In what aspect does he look like a kid to you?"
I rolled my eyes and faced Tushar and Aditya. "It's fine. I'm not upset or angry with you."
And before Arjun could say anything, they had run away from there like their lives depended on it.
.
.
.
Arjun still holds a grudge against him and it's quite funny watching him trying to be civil whenever Tushar and Aditya come over.
Who am I kidding?
I have to threaten him to be nice to Tushar, for Aditya's sake.
"He's coming to the party. And that's final." I announced.
"Do I get a say in this?"
"No."
"Great." Arjun muttered. "Why wou-"
"I can't believe you hit him." We looked in the direction of the feminine voice.
Kriti and Raj were strolling towards us, immersed in a heated conversation.
"Because he insulted you!" Raj fired back.
Kriti stopped in her tracks and turned to him, crossing arms over her chest. "You can't go around punching every guy who says anything bad about me."
Raj stepped forward, squaring his shoulders and looked her straight in the eyes. "I can. And I will."
I held Arjun's hand in excitement, barely suppressing my squeal at the scene playing out in front of me.
"Princess, you need to calm down before you scare them off with your banshee screaming." Arjun said quietly but I ignored him.
I couldn't seem to take my eyes off the lovebirds as Kriti blushed and casted her eyes down. She glanced around and since Arjun and I were hidden from her view, she leaned on her tip-toes to kiss Raj's cheek. I clamped a hand on my mouth, nearly dying of overloaded cuteness. I slumped against Arjun with a dreamy face and he patted my back, rolling his eyes at my antics.
It was Raj's turn to blush as Kriti turned around and speed-walked in our direction.
As soon as they came closer, I immediately whipped my head to Arjun, trying to act as if I wasn't fangirling over them a moment before.
"Hey!"
I looked up at the sight of them and pretended to be surprised. "Raj! Kriti! What a pleasant surprise! I didn't even notice you."
I could feel Arjun's stare boring holes at the side of my head, probably questioning my sanity but I refused to look at him.
"We're here to meet Anvi and Kabir." Kriti made a silly face at the children and they giggled in response.
Anvi ran towards Kriti and she picked her up, twirling her around meanwhile Raj came and took Kabir from me.
"Wait, where are you going?" I asked when they turned around to leave.
"To annoy David, of course." Raj answered in a duh tone.
"What?" Arjun frowned.
Kriti smiled evilly. "Sid said we are supposed to meet him in the garage in five minutes because we are going to prank David."
"Let's go!" Raj whooped and Anvi cheered with full enthusiasm although she had no idea why she was doing it. Even Kabir started clapping happily as they walked to the garage.
I stared at their retreating backs for a silent moment and then faced Arjun. "Do you think this is a good idea?"
"Definitely not. But it would be really fun to watch David punching Sid after the prank so I'm not going to stop them."
"Will you be okay with Sid dying while Anushka is pregnant?"
"She's the Vice President of Oberoi Industries. I think she can handle a minor inconvenience." He picked a juice bottle from my other side but accidentally knocked it over and the juice spilled over my shirt.
"Shit! I'm sorry." Arjun muttered, trying to wipe my shirt with a tissue. "You okay, princess?"
My mind immediately went to the day we first met and I smiled to myself.
"You ruined my favorite shirt!" I gasped in mock anger.
"Yeah, I'm-" He looked up and noticed my wide smile. Understanding dawned upon him and he cocked an amused brow. A smirk played on his lips, his eyes gleaming with mischief. "I did. So?"
I pursed my lips in a frown, fighting the urge to grin like an idiot.
"Well, now I want you to wash it for me." I said sternly.
"Fine." He wound an arm around my waist and pulled me flush against him, my breath hitching in my throat at our proximity. His gaze dropped to my lips as he asked. "So, are you gonna take it off on your own or do you want my help?"
Oh, my.
I encircled my arms around his neck. "Oh, I definitely need your help."
Giggling, I leaned forward and closed the distance between us.
It may not be perfect. It may not be normal. It may be a little (very) crazy, full of laughter and weirdness. But it's us.
And this was our story.
Kiara and Arjun's story.
Falling for my husband.
The end.
