Book 4: Chapter 41: Patch 7.0:
The True Endgame
Thanks to the chest from the dungeon and the chest from the roaming boss, transporting materials to and from The Shoebill is far easier than it was earlier with the logs. There is at least one hundred percent fewer exploding wagons, too.
âYo, Shogun,â Rao says once they're all back on The Shoebill. âYou up for goinâ for a fly?â
Shogun yips and wags his tail.
âIs that like the flying fox version of asking a dog if they want to go on a walk?â Fenrir asks.
Rock walks up to Fenrir and starts wagging her tail and staring up at him since she heard the word âwalk.â
âBasically,â Rao says as he gets onto Shogunâs back. âWeâre gonna go fly around and look for where other towns might be.â
âGot it,â Fenrir says. âWe didnât see anything coming up along the coast, so youâll probably have to look either farther inland if you look south or just go up along the coast some more.â
âAight. Catch you all later. Weâll come back to where weâre setting up shop,â Rao says before signaling Shogun to take off.
Shogun and Rock nuzzle their heads together for a few seconds before Shogun lifts up into the air with his wings.
Rock whines as soon as sheâs deprived of Shogunâs presence.
âItâs alright. Iâm still here for you,â Fenrir tells Rock, petting her on the top of her head.
Fortunately for Fenrirâs pride, Rock cheers up, wags her tail, and licks his hand to thank him.
He would have been crushed if he couldnât cheer her up.
âHopefully that dumb teacher doesnât try and pull a catgirl by never cominâ back on,â Tabitha says.
âSheâll be back. Probably,â Serra says.
âWhat happened to make her leave all of a sudden anyways?â
âFenny sexually harassed her.â
Tabitha glares up at Fenrir and says, âOi.â
âI â I swear I didnât do anything.â
âUnfortunately, he did not do too much,â Nell says. âHe only groped her breasts and kissed her.â
âOi,â Tabitha repeats herself, her glare more intense than before.
âIt was their plan!â Fenrir explains. âThey blindfolded me and tricked me into thinking I was kissing Nell, and then when the blindfold came loose, it was Aza and they ran away!â
âYa really think Iâm goinâ to buy that you fell for one of that princessâs delusional plans?â
âI â I did!â
âSo, you actually trusted that she wanted to blindfold ya just to kiss ya, and that nothinâ else was goinâ to happen?â
âY-yeah. I swear. That⦠probably makes me sound really stupid now that I think about it, but I trusted her.â
âAnd the gropinâ part?â
Fenrir looks away and scratches his cheek. âWe-well⦠I â I figured itâd be okay.â
âYa know, if I send ya flyinâ right now, there wonât be any fox to go and pick ya up if we keep sailinâ down the river. Youâll be left to run back the rest of the way yourself.â
âPlease no.â
Tabitha lets out a loud, exaggerated sigh before shrugging and saying, âYa better hope ya didnât traumatize her to never come back on. Iâll be needinâ her magic for my rocket tower.â
âYou⦠youâre really serious about that, arenât you?â
âAm I ever not serious?â
âFair enough. Also, you,â Fenrir says, looking at Serra, âdonât go saying Iâm sexually harassing people when youâre the one who set me up.â
âSexual harasser Fenny,â Serra says.
Oleander sniffles and wipes false tears from his eyes. âWhere did I go wrong raising you, Fenny?â he asks.
âShouldnât you be proud if you raised me to be like this?â Fenrir asks Oleander.
âHmm. Thatâs a good point! Yep. Iâm proud of you, Fenny, my boy.â
âThatâs just weird.â
âYou want weird? Then come to daddy,â Oleander says, biting his lower lip and giving Fenrir a lustful gaze.
Fenrir grabs Serraâs shoulders to hide behind her again.
âBut I wanna watch this,â Serra says.
âIt would be a rather delightful show,â Nell agrees, nodding her head.
âI⦠I donât know how to feel about this, but⦠maybe,â Cassiel says.
âCan you all stop shipping me with Olly? Weâre both taken, and Iâm taken with all of you,â Fenrir says.
âHeâs right! I might like to tease my Fenny, but my Cor is the only one really getting anything from me!â Oleander says, wrapping his arms around Corwin and nuzzling his face against Corwinâs abdomen.
âO-Olly, please, you do not need to grab me so crudely in front of the others,â Corwin says.
Nell and Serra take a peek behind Corwin to see where exactly Oleander is grabbing. Serra nods and gives a thumbs-up to Oleander while Nell blushes and nods her head.
âYou know you like it,â Oleander teases.
âThat â that may not be incorrect, but still,â Corwin whines as he wiggles around within Oleanderâs grasp.
Fenrir helps out Corwin by grabbing both Serra and Nell by the backs of their clothes, pulling them away so that they can no longer watch Oleanderâs own sexual harassment of his boyfriend.
âAm I the only one not obsessed with those things on this boat?â Tabitha asks.
âProbably,â Fenrir answers. âThis is what happens when you join a crew full of lovers.â
âIn my defense, those two boys were the only ones datinâ when I joined.â
âReally?â
âYeah. I mean, it was pretty obvious you, shortie, and blondie all liked each other when I joined, but none of ya were datinâ yet. I had no idea ya planned on addinâ the princess here to your little harem, either. Then there was the cat and Red. Now thereâs the teacher. Anybody who joins this crew apparently either falls for ya or is tryinâ to get his own harem.â
âYouâre⦠youâre not wrong.â
âAm I ever?â
âI⦠canât think of a single time youâve ever been wrong.â
Tabitha smiles a smug smile and crosses her arms over her chest. âCourse ya canât.â
âYouâll be wrong eventually. And, when you are wrong, Iâm going to make sure to never forget it. Iâll never let you forget it, either,â Fenrir declares, officially challenging the short engineer.
âHave fun beinâ wrong again,â Tabitha says.
âFen, I donât think you can win this one,â Cassiel says.
âNope. Now itâs a challenge. Iâm going to make her wrong one way or another,â Fenrir says. âWatch. Tabs, close your eyes.â
Tabitha smiles and closes her eyes.
âNow, without opening your eyes, how many fingers am I holding up?â Fenrir asks.
âNone,â Tabitha answers.
âShit. Okay, how about now?â
âTen.â
âH-how? Now?â
âThree.â
âI give up. Youâre a hacker and Iâm reporting you.â
Tabitha opens her eyes and grins.
Fenrir looks at his girlfriends. None of them are around Tabitha, so they couldnât have been giving her any hints. Though⦠maybe she can somehow see through her eyelids?
âLetâs try again,â Fenrir says.
âWhatever ya want, dog boy,â Tabitha says and shuts her eyes.
Fenrir moves behind Tabitha, checks her out to make sure sheâs not cheating at all, and holds up seven fingers.
âHow about now?â he asks.
âFiâjust kidding. Seven,â Tabitha answers.
âSeriously, how are you doing it?â
âGirls have eyes on the backs of their heads.â
âI thought that only applied to moms?â
âI feel like a mom around here when Iâm the only one not chasinâ tail. Ya need to learn whatâs really worth chasinâ. Like coin!â
âBut seriously, are you psychic? Do you have some magical abilities youâre not telling us about?â
âNope.â
âThen how could you tell exactly how many fingers I was holding up every single time?â
âLucky guessinâ, dog boy. I figured yaâd try to trick me with none at first, then ya went from none to all, then I figured yaâd go for an odd number like three or seven so that was fifty-fifty chance, and then I knew ya would try it again but the other number. Youâre more predictable than ya might think ya are.â
âAm⦠am I predictable?â Fenrir asks, sounding deflated as he turns around to look at his girlfriends.
âW-well, you are not unpredictable, my hero,â Nell says.
âOlly?â
âYeah, youâre kinda predictable when it comes to anything other than griefing,â Oleander says.
Fenrir had no idea that he was so predictable. Doesnât that make him boring? Is he a boring person?
Heâs going to have to try and become more unpredictable, especially for his girlfriends.
âYouâre thinking you want to be more unpredictable, arenât you?â Cassiel asks.
Fenrir goes pale. âI â I really am that predictable, arenât I?â he asks.
âItâs okay,â Serra says. âIt makes it easier to bully you.â
âThough, a bit of unpredictability could be nice, such as if you suddenly go on a feral rampage as we try to sleep!â Nell says.
âDonât worry about it,â Tabitha says, patting Fenrir on his back. âYaâve been predictable this entire time. I doubt theyâd still be with ya if that was a problem.â
âSheâs right,â Cassiel says. âYou donât need to be unpredictable.â
His girlfriends may be saying that, but it doesnât mean that Fenrir isnât going to try his best to become less predictable.
âYouâre still thinking you want to try and become less predictable, arenât you?â Cassiel asks.
Fenrir walks over to The Shoebillâs railing and climbs up onto it.
