Book 4: Chapter 72: Patch 13.0: Operation: Operation
The True Endgame
Later that day, the girls have gathered and are ready for their night together.
âItâs still suspicious,â Tabitha says as she checks all around The Shoebill to make sure that there are no stowaways. Not even Shogun is around from what she can see. âFor all of them to be missinâ on our night⦠somethinâ isnât right.â
âIâm â Iâm sorry,â Azalabulia whimpers.
âIt ainât your fault. That dog just played ya is all,â Tabitha says. âShouldnât have trusted him around ya. To think heâd go after his newest girlfriend for information! This is why we need a girlsâ night â to get away from men like him.â
âCould we not have simply chosen a new night since they know about this one?â Nell asks.
âEh, there isnât a reason to. Itâs not like we couldnât just kick them off if they were trying to hide anywhere. Can ya feel him around anywhere with that stalker ability of yours?â
âIt â it is not a âstalker ability.â It is a gift given to me byââ
âYeah, yeah, giant serpent gift. So, can ya feel him?â
âNo,â Nell answers with a pout and turned head.
âHuh. Think he mightâve woke somewhere?â
âIt is possible. I can never sense him whenever he is not immersed.â
âToo bad we canât get trackers like that on the rest of them. We need to chip them.â
âIf anybody could create such a device, it would be you, Tabitha.â
âSo, how much longer are we going to stand around looking for them?â Cassiel asks.
âYeah, boring,â Serra agrees.
âAlright, alright, weâll get the show on the road!â Tabitha declares. âWait, thereâs somebody we havenât interrogated yet.â
âWho would that be?â Nell asks.
Tabitha looks over at Rock.
Rock notices sheâs being stared at by everybody, rolls onto her side, and looks away.
âYouâre not going to get anything out of her if youâre not Fenny or Shogun,â Cassiel says.
âRock is loyal,â Serra says, nodding.
âToo loyal,â Tabitha says. âMaybe we should⦠nah, Iâd feel bad not includinâ her. Alright, Rock, ya can stay with us for girlsâ night.â
Rock wags her tail a single time to express just how excited she is. She isnât the only one lacking excitement, either. Azalabulia may not be around her new boyfriend, but sheâs sticking to herself even more than usual. Serra and Cassiel just look and sound as if theyâre going with the flow rather than actually being excited about this and enjoying themselves. Nell is hopeful and eager but is nowhere near as abundantly excited as Tabitha is.
With the ship clear of all men, the fluffy sheeps secured inside of their temporary pen, and all girls onboard, Tabitha takes the helm and sets sail from the dock.
âWhat are going to do?â Serra asks Cassiel.
âIâm⦠not sure. Girl stuff?â Cassiel answers.
âLike what?â
âLike⦠stuff girls do when theyâre together without any men? I guess?â
âOh. So weâre going to do lewd things to each other? Iâm okay wiââ
âThatâs not what I meant.â
Serra sighs and pouts.
âI have no idea,â Cassiel says before joining in on the sighing. âAll weâve done is worry about guy-proofing the night, and we didnât really plan anything to do other than⦠talking, I guess.â
âThereâs not even any food,â Serra says.
âOr drinks.â
âOr games.â
âMaybe we can,â Cassiel looks to the side of the ship before sighing, ânever mind. The fishing rods are gone.â
âIâm bored.â
âShhh. Tabs is excited about this, so letâs try to have fun.â
âDick is fun.â
Cassiel sighs one more time before placing her face into her palm.
Nell, having seen the looks of boredom, walks over to them with her hands behind her back.
âHiding something?â Cassiel asks Nell.
Serraâs eyes light up at the thought of potentially having something to do.
âIt would not be a girlsâ night without these!â Nell says, bringing her hands out from behind her back to show the girls what sheâs holding.
All she has is a box with hair ties and clips, some makeup, and other âgirlâ items that the girls already spend more than enough time with back in reality.
âWhether itâs in real life or in-game, you really like this stuff, donât you?â Cassiel asks.
Serra goes back to sighing.
âOf course!â Nell answers. âWe are ladies. It is only natural for us to be interested in such,â she notices how unimpressed the others look, ââ¦things. A-are you not interested?â
âItâs fine,â Cassiel says. âI was expecting as much.â
âNeither of you look too interested in any of this.â
âI just donât really see how a girlsâ night is necessary at all, I guess. Maybe Iâm just used to mainly hanging out with guys before this game, so⦠yeah, I just think itâs kind of â I donât know, petty?â
âOh! Of course. While I do agree that the concept is silly, I thought it could be fun! Besides, Tabitha is going to let me do her hair and makeup however I want! She even said she would teach us about techniques to defend ourselves against sexual harassment, but⦠I believe that would simply make it worse as Serra would know the techniques and to expect them.â
Serra crosses her arms over her chests and nods, proud of herself.
âWe can⦠talk, about⦠things,â Azalabulia says.
âWhatever weâre going to do, letâs just try to have fun and enjoy it,â Cassiel says. âIâm sure we can have fun if we tell ourselves that we will.â
âYouâre the one who said it sounds like fun in the first place,â Serra says.
âYeah⦠I know, so thatâs why we just have to try and have fun.â
While Tabitha happily sails out to open waters where she believes they will be totally safe from any potential plans that the missing men might have, the rest of the girls on board, even Rock, find themselves struggling even more to stay motivated about having a fun time.
They arenât the only ones.
âI miss my girlfriends,â Fenrir says, lying back against the serpentâs scales.
Shogun barks as he thinks about cuddling up together with Rock.
âYou know weâre going to see them soon, right?â Oleander asks. âYou can handle being separated for a little bit, Fenny.â
âI donât know about that. The more time I spend with them, the harder it is to be away from them.â
âWhich is exactly why you need a guysâ night.â
âIsnât fishing and drinking on the back of a serpent way too dangerous?â Rao asks. âAnd Iâm not sure these seats are that sturdyâ¦â
âWe followed your instructions precisely, Rao,â Corwin says.
âWhatâd you expect when weâre supposed to follow your handwriting with a bunch of scrap materials?â Oleander asks.
âYeah, yeah. At least theyâre holding sturdy,â Rao says right before his seat tied around the serpentâs body loses one of its straps. âI uh⦠Iâm not a good swimmer, by the way.â
