Chapter One
The Hot Head's Girl
(Elena's POV)
Rain lashed against the windshield of my father's navy blue car as he drove down a deserted one land highway.
I peered through my door window, it was pitch black outside with not even one star in the sky but there was a small glow of the moon and small square orange lights lining the road to see by.
Dad, Mum and I were driving home from visiting my aunt Athena.
See my family carried a secret, we were witches.
It all started with my grandmother Esther;Â she was a witch. She had one sister Elise and a brother Evan, she was the youngest out of them. The three of them were forced into servitude but one day Carlisle had saved Esther and helped her escape with her siblings. Because of his kindness, they all decided to stay by him until a sense of debt was repaid.
Eventually Grams and her family went separate ways for a short period of time and lived in London where my grandmother met my grandfather Colin who happened to be a hybrid. They met, fell in love and traveled the world together.
Gram's brother decided to stay in London where his family still lives to this day. He married a beautiful woman himself and had four children.
Esther and Colin got married and settled down in Forks and built the family home. Everyone called it the Lovelace Gardens because it was the most beautiful place in Forks, just the gardens alone were breathtaking.
It was about ten acres, with it's own forest backyard and set in the middle of Forks and La Push. When the treaty happened my Grandmother chose to stay neutral and so our house was known as common ground.
Gram's sister Elise came to visit and had a whirl of a romance with Yaha Uta, the two grew attracted to each other at first sight. She was an imprintee and married into the tribe. On the day after their wedding night, the tribe was attacked by a cold woman. Elise watched the love of her life die in front of her eyes. It sent her on a spiraling path, she helped take down the woman alongside the pack, Taha Aki and his first wife, his own imprintee. Together they saved the tribe and earned highest respect. Later Elise gave birth to their only daughter Eleanor, giving Elise a reason to keep living. Elise lived on the reservation for many years, as most witches can live longer than people expect, many generations went to her for advice. Once Eleanor was old enough, Elise finally took her last breath, some say her Yaha Uta was there to take her into eternal peace.
Eleanor was a kind woman and one of my favorite distant cousins, she was a business woman with a sharp tongue when she needed it but on the inside she was a total softy. She had two daughters and a son. One of the daughters stayed here married and had their own family, while the other two chose to venture out and make names for themselves else where.
Even though some of the family stayed and others left, we always got together at least once a year or stayed in contact. I have several cousins around the world that I talk too all the time.
My paternal side of the family is very confusing to outsiders.
Anyway as for my grandmother, she gave birth to my father David, He worked with Carlisle at the hospital.
He grew up here in Forks, he met my mother in kindergarten, so they knew each other for a long time and had one of those childhood sweetheart stories.
My mum was human, but she loved being part of this family and everyone loved her especially my grandma. My mother ran a small diner.
My father had two younger sisters Athena and Rowena, they were twins but so very different. My aunt Athena was very sweet and a wonderful woman just like her name, she lived in L.A with her husband and two twin daughters of her own Mariana and Holly and owned a shop.
My Aunt Rowena however was the complete opposite than Athena. she hated everyone who was not full blooded witch and was a very spiteful woman, she hated my mother and even tried to harm her with dark magic.
It was against the rules to use our magic to harm others, like our biggest law and Aunt Roe broke it. Because of that she and her son Kaine were kicked out of the coven.
She's considered the first Lovelace witch to go 'dark' as we called it. There are actually quite a few Lovelace's in the world. I'm not really sure how far it goes all I know is my grandparents lived for over nearly a thousand years until last year my Grams got sick and passed away. Grampa couldn't live without her and died of a literal broken heart.
Anyway we were having a wonderful time hanging out in L.A with my aunt Athena and her family. We went shopping, went to a spa and had a blast for the entire summer. Our other relatives were there too, we had a huge Lovelace clan reunion and I got to learn more about my family history and magic. I hated leaving, I wanted to stay longer my cousins and I were very close and it was nice having girls my age other than Quinn and Jazz to share the magic secret.
School was staring in two weeks so we had to come home.
"You okay?" Mom asked drawing my attention.
Outside the front windshield, the rain was coming down in torrents, the windshield wipers whipped back and forth over the window attempting to clear away the large droplets clinging to the glass.
"It's really coming down out there." Dad told her.
"How much further?" I asked yawning tiredly.
"We're almost home." Mom told me looking back.
"What's the hurry?" Dad asked.
"Jazz and Quinn wants to do a small bonfire calming ritual before school" I told him settling back, Dad nodded in understanding. "I also promised Alice we could have our annual back to school shopping spree, she's been driving Rose crazy and then thought I'd go down and spend time at the beach with Leah and the others."
"Well honey you've got two weeks to do all that stu-" Mom trailed off.
Suddenly Dad looked a little uneasy, I felt the car jolt as Dad slammed on the brakes. My eyes snapped over to him.
"Dad?"
"David what's wrong?"
Something black with red eyes flashed in front of the car. The sound of the car's screeching brakes and tires skidding on the wet pavement shattered the immense silence.
The car was sliding into a tree.
Dad gripped the wheel trying to get back control but it was too late.
A huge blow hit the car and it seemed like an immense weight flipped the car over. Everything seemed to go in slow motion.
Suddenly I was no longer in the car but laying on the road a few feet away, there was glass everywhere.
Slowly sitting up, there were small cuts on my hands. I smelled smoke and lifted my head, my entire body just froze for a minute. The car was flipped on it's top, on fire.
I could hear screaming.
"Mama! Daddy!" I yelled getting to my feet, I ignored the river of glass surrounding me and ran towards it when I was thrown back as the fire exploded.
I fell to the ground. Tears streamed down my face looking around trying to find a way to help them, when a flash of something passed the corner of my eye.
Spotting two creatures, with red and fangs, there was another figure with them that had a black hood on so I couldn't see their face.
Their heads whipped around spotting me, I covered my mouth quickly and stared them down.
I knew what they were.....vampires...bad ones.
They came towards me, I continued staring at them and the car. I was torn between leaving my parents and teleporting out.
They stopped short hearing growling coming from one side of the road and a rustling noise from the other.
Carlisle and his family came from one side and the pack on the other.
I looked at them feeling relieved. When they saw the car on fire, Carlisle's eyes turned from the gentle ones he usually had to the want to kill.
Thinking everything was going to be okay, my parents screams suddenly stopped, my head turned and stared at it in shock.
The trio turned and ran off, Carlisle and the wolf pack chased after them.
Edward, Jasper and Emmett worked on trying to put out the fire.
Esme, Alice and Rosalie all came to my side, Esme kneeled down beside me and wrapped her arms around me.
That snapped me from my trance, I looked at her, at the car and then back to her and just broke down.
"Shh Ellie, it's okay." I heard her say calmly. "Everything's going to be okay."
Hearing that I laid my head on her shoulder and just buried it.
The last thing I heard was sirens before everything went dark.
