Thirty - Nine Part 1

"This is an excellent place to be murdered."

The offhand comment was properly placed as they drive down a long, deserted dirt road flanked my ominous trees. Luca had fallen asleep and Sven was bored. "The city is much more dangerous than out here." He countered.

"Not particularly. You have more of a chance into running in Wild Beasts out here."

"That's just the stuff from movies. They don't exist outside our keep." Sven rolled his eyes.

"Oh but those movies are just classic." Grinned Tanner. "Unsuspecting vampires going for a hike in the mountains only to be confronted by the rabid, demented Beasts?"

"You know demonizing them does them help their treatment."

"You care?"

Sven pursed his lips. "I care about Luca."

"Weres are first and foremost animals. Enough said."

Sven sighed and looked around. "You can't deny it would be a bit creepy around here."

"I disagree. I can't a wild Beast. They're like our tamed ones but stupid." Tanner set a hand on Sven's knee. "This is something else though, hm?"

"What driving together?"

"Yes with a little one in back. I can't say I expected it."

Sven tucked his knee closer to his body and Tanner slid his hand away with a dejected sigh. "Me neither."

"You know I'm not made of stone." Tanner commented carefully.

Sven almost smiled. "Is this you saying your feelings are hurt?" Sven sucked on his teeth and felt oddly trapped by the conversation. He didn't like feeling guilted for his choices. "You don't trust me Tanner."

"That's not true." But it was--but only a bit. He would have trusted him if hadn't been so fucking secretive. "I mean c'mon Sven--you're hiding things."

"I'm not. But I shouldn't have to tell you everywhere I go--you don't tell me."

"I hardly go anywhere but work." Tanner retorted coldly. "And you've never asked."

"Because I respect your privacy and trust you." Sven wanted to pull his hair out but took a deep breath instead. "You know what? You said you wouldn't do this. I just want to have a nice calm day with no accusations. Is that possible?"

"You brought it up." Tanner countered. "Is he still asleep back there?"

"Yes. He looks like little doll."

The Farm was nestled far into the woods.

It was an ideal location--clean air coming from the mountains, organic feed grown on premise, plenty of space for them to wander... They drive through a wrought iron gate on a freshly paved path. The smell of fresh asphalt hung lightly in the air, seeping into the car. There was a sign posted with the Farm name and a warning that to watch for humans. It wasn't too long before they saw their very first one.

It was female by the look of the enlarged mammaries with wild looking black hair. She had her young protectively in her care as they caught sight of the car. The matured one held onto her youth protectively as they backed away.

Sven quickly roused Luca while glancing at Tanner. "Did you see--"

"I saw them. Did Luca?"

"Not quite." The little one rubbed his eyes and blinked wearily. "Look out the windows Luca, you might see one!"

"Luca take off?" He pulled on the strap and he nodded.

The speed limit was only 5 mph so Tanner nodded. Sven reached back to help him unbuckle and the little werewolf got on his knees to peer out the window. There were a lot of trees and lush undergrowth but humans didn't often hide. "Daddy they gone." Luca whined looking hopefully at his Daddy.

"They'll come back." He assured him. "But we'll definitely see them on the Farm. Just keep your eyes peeled."

Luca gaped at his Daddy in horror. "Daddy peel Luca's eyes?"

"No cupcake!" Tanner said quickly. He regretted his word choice--it did so a bit morbid. "Daddy just meant keep on looking."

"Luca's eyes safe?" He asked nervously.

"Very safe." Tanner confirmed with a nod. "Look!"

There was a small group of males. Young--probably in their early stages of development. They darted in front of the vehicle fearlessly, one shrieking in exhilaration. "Slow down." Sven tutted as Tanner expected.

"I'm going the speed limit Sven. Besides I had more than enough to time to stop if I needed too."

Luca watched them disappearing into the tree line with a brilliant sense of wonder. "Luca see them!" He told them excitedly. "Fen see? Daddy see?"

"I did. I don't know about Daddy." Sven mumbled earning him a smirk from Tanner.

"Next time we'll be enjoying road kill."

"Stop it!"

"Oh I'm teasing--which way?"

The road forked out. One way was dirt and looked narrow, the other was obviously still part of the road and paved. "Left obviously."

Tanner grinned and took the sharp turn. The road opened up to a small parking area. There was a van with a college crest on it parked in the far back and a few other vehicles. "Here?" Luca asked with a gleeful smile.

"That's right." He parked beside a filthy domestic car and blanched. "If there's one thing this country can't do, it's make a proper car."

"Hush. Let's go."

The compound smelled heavily of blood and humans. It was both exhilarating a bit sickening. The mash of senses wasn't the best. "Smell funny here." Luca whispered.

"I know. But you get used to it." Luca reached for Fen's hand and the prince's heart melted. "Fen keep Luca and Daddy safe."

Tanner chuckled a bit but was ultimately pleased by how well the two had taken to each other. There was small gathering by a large stone building. It was old with moss and ivy creeping up the sides. There was a gang of New Borns loudly discussing their 'research' trip. Tanner picked up that try we're majoring in Human Studies--what a waste of time!

The lead guide came out shortly afterward. She was pretty in an organic way wearing tacky khaki shorts with a polo shirt tucked in. Her hair was tied back and she had a silvery hued werewolf sitting beside her, gazing at the group in a calm manner. "Welcome," she spoke loudly over the clamor. Everyone silenced. "To Lange Farm."

A/N: I mean don't kill me. This is part 1 the second part should be updated soon. I'll update by tomorrow night if I can get 20 comments on what you think the Farm will be like 😆. If not I will still update within the next two or three days. Stay sassy my friends.
