Logan was about to ask her something when the roar of a motorcycle echoed from the yard. He jumped up and dashed outside, yelling, âElysia, youâre finally back. Is my bike okay?â
Elysia took off the helmet and tossed the keys to Logan. âDonât worry. Itâs all good. Thanks.â
Logan chuckled. âItâs nothing, as long as the bikeâs fine.
Emma came out too. She smiled warmly at Elysia and said, âYouâre back. I was just talking about you with Logan.â
Elysia frowned, âWhat were you saying about me?â.
âNothing, just some small talk,â Logan said with a flattering smile Emma shot a glance at Logan and continued, âElysia, Iâm not trying to lecture you, but this bike is a limited edition. Logan didnât want to lend it to you, so why did you take it?â
Elysia turned to Logan. âDid I take it?â
Logan grinned. âOf course not! Youâre my dear cousin. I willingly lent it to you.â
Emma pausedâLogan hadnât mentioned it this way before.
Elysia turned to Emma. âDid you hear that? Next time, get your facts straight before you talk. I canât promise how long my good mood will last.â
Elysia was referring to the motorcycle thing, but Emma understood the warning: she was being told not to spread rumors in school.
âBut I was telling truth, though I couldnât find the evidence. But doesnât mean it isnât there. Elysia, just wait. Sooner or later, youâll pay for everything youâve done, Emma thought to herself In the late afternoon at the Rosewood residenceâs garden, Logan eaned in with a mischievous grin. âElysia, you have no idea how Emma spilled all your stories to me. By the way, we definitely have the same temper. Little rascal, youâve got the same flair I had back in the day.â
Elysia glanced at Logan, who was only a few years older than her and frowned. âIf I remember correctly, youâre just four years older than me.â
âYou know that?â Logan exclaimed, surprised.
Elysia rolled her eyes. âI donât think little rascalâ really fits me.â
Logan clicked his tongue. âWell, if you donât like it, I wonât call you that. Anyway, Iâm older than youâ
Elysia was left speechless Logan continued, âEven though Emma is technically my cousin po, I just canât get close to her. Sheâs always crying about something, and I canât handle that. Youâre a lot more fun at least) can see a bit of myself in you. Is that the power of family 1/3 14:04 Tue, Jan 28 Chapter 15 ties?â
691 Elysia didnât respond. She wasnât sure about that. All she knew was that even though she shared blood with her parents, she could never compare to the adopted daughter they had raised for eighteen years.
âElysia, what are you thinking about? Why arenât you talking?â Logan asked.
Meanwhile, Emma hid behind a cluster of bushes and overheard their conversation. A cold light flickered in her eyes. âSo all these years, Logan has looked down on me. Iâve even made excuses for him, thinking he just wasnât an easy person to get close to.
âBut now, itâs clear: he simply doesnât want to be close to me. He treats Elysia completely differently. No matter how obedient and sensible I try to be, to him, Iâll always be just an outsider Early the next day, before Elysia woke up, Emma knocked on her bedroom door. âElysia, are you up?â
Elysia pulled the blanket over her ears. Why is she waking me up so early? Itâs only seven in the morning. Was she restless all night and looking for more pain? Oh man! If thatâs the case, her demands are pretty twisted!
Elysia didnât plan on responding, but Emma kept knocking on the door.
Bella, waking up from her sleep, noticed the knocking. Curious, she threw on a cloak and went to check it out.
As she opened the door, she found Emma knocking on Elysiaâs door. Confused, she walked over and asked, âEmma, whatâs going on?â
Emma smiled, âMom, Iâve planned an afternoon tea with some friends and wanted to invite Elysia. I thought itâd be nice to introduce her.â
âThat sounds great. Let her mingle with some wealthy socialites, and itâll help her improve her manners. You really thought this through. But isnât it a bit early to ask her for afternoon tea?â
âMom, I thought if she got up early to get ready and look nice, I could take some time to talk to her about manners. That way, she wouldnât come off as rude later. But it looks like she just wonât listen.â
Bella couldnât help but feel resentful. âEmma is trying so hard to organize everything for Elysia, yet Elysia is just acting indifferent, not even bothering to wake up when called. How could someone this rude be my daughter?
Just as Bella was about to knock on the door, it swung open.
âYouâre finally awake, Emma said.
Elysia rolled her eyes. With all the loud knocking this morning, who could sleep through that?â
Bella said, âGlad youâre up Emma wants to introduce you to some wealthy friends this afternoon. You should start getting ready and learn some manners so you donât embarrass yourself Introduce me to friends? Would Emina really be that thoughtful Elysia wasnât buying it. âThanks for the idea, but Iâm naturally charming and donât need any extra fuss. Save yourself the trouble.â
Emma was about to bite back when Elysia added, âAnd if you dont want me to embarrass the Rosewood family today, let me get some sleep. Otherwise, if I show up looking like a zombie, it on you for not letting me rest 14:04 Tue, Jan 28 Chapter 15 Emma retorted, âDonât put it that way. Tim just trying to help you make a good impression.â
Elysia knew Emma wasnât being sincere. She chuckled, âWell, if Dad blames me later, Iâll just tell him what really happened.â
When Elysia brought up Scott, Emma went quietâshe knew he favored Elysia.
Bella frowned, âElysia, Emma only wants the best for you.â
âIf she really wanted the best for me, sheâd stay away from me,â Elysia sneered.
âWhat do you mean by that? Am I bothering you?â Emmaâs tone sounded soft and hurt, like she was the victim.
âI never said that; itâs just what youâre thinkingâ Elysia glanced at the two. âIâm eager to go back to sleep, so feel free to do whatever you want.â She then shut the door directly.
Bella was so furious. This is outrageous!â
Just as she was about to knock again, Emma stopped her. âForget it, Mom: She just has that kind of temper. If we upset her. who knows what sheâll say about me next.â
Bella looked at Emma with concern, gently fixing the hair around her face. âEmma, you are so thoughtful.
The two of them walked downstairs, arm in arm, creating a cozy scene. The servants watched with a hint of jealousy while whispering with each other.
âThey seem very close, like a real mother and daughter.â
âAbsolutely! But Mrs. Rosewood and Elysia donât seem as close. They feel more like strangers.â
Emma overheard the servants whispering and felt quite proud.
