Fabian settled down on the sofa, still unaware of Edward’s intentions. Quinita continued to hold Elysia’s hand tightly, scared that if she relaxed even a little, her daughter might vanish again.

“Evelyn, where have you been all this time? I couldn’t find you anywhere.” Quinita asked.

Elysia smiled faintly in response. “I was playing hide and seek with you.”

“Hide and seek?”

“Yes, you sought while I hid. I must have gotten too carried away and ended up hiding for too long. I’m sorry for making you worry,” Elysia replied.

Quinita believed her daughter’s playful lie and gently ruffled Elysia’s hair, looking at her with affection. “Evelyn, no need to apologize. If you enjoy playing hide and seek, I’ll join you next time. Just don’t hide for so long. I miss you dearly.”

“Okay, next time I’ll come out sooner so you won’t have to search for too long,” Elysia promised.

As they talked, the others averted their eyes, feeling introspective. Despite the ostensibly joyful and relaxed atmosphere, a heaviness lingered among them.
