Chapter 278
Pampered By Power: The True Heiress Returns
Chapter 278 (+23)
When Elena spoke, Ava finally got it. Sheâd been so focused on keeping Elysia around that sheâd forgotten Elysia had already graduated from high school three years agoâand from a top school, too.
Harfard University was the kind of place most people only dreamed of, but Elysia had already graduated from there. There was no way she needed to go back to high school.
Ava had acted impulsively just now, not thinking things through. Thank goodness Elena had stopped her in time. If those words had slipped out, Elysia wouldâve been in a tough spot. As her friend, Ava couldnât force Elysiaâs decisions, especially at a time like this.
But the thought of them drifting apart made Ava feel a pang of sadness. She watched the fish darting around in the water, her eyes starting to mist up.
She thought to herself, âIf only we could be like the fish, free from worries and separations.
When Elysia found them, they were both leaning over the railing with gloomy expressions. Even Elena, who rarely showed much emotion, looked a bit down.
Elysia walked over slowly, and they looked up after theyâd heard her footsteps, trying to hide their sadness. âElysia, whatâs up?â
Ava asked.
âI just took Jack back to his room. I heard you guys were here, so I came to check on you. Whatâs going on? You donât seem too happy,â Elysia said.
Ava forced a smile and linked her arm with Elysiaâs. âWhat do you mean? Weâre fine. You must be mistaken.â
âReally?â Elysia raised an eyebrow, and Ava nodded quickly. But before Ava could say more, Elena chimed in, âElysia, I want to go home for a visit. Will you two come with me?â
Elysiaâs eyes softened as she met Elenaâs gaze. If Elena wanted to go home, theyâd all go together. She nodded. âSure, but first, I have someone I want you to meet.â
Ava perked up. âElysia, who is it?â
âA friend of mine. Come on,â Elysia said, leading the way. Sheâd planned to introduce them last night, but Phoebe had to leave early, so theyâd waited until today.
Seeing Elysia leave, Ava and Elena hurried after her. Ava wore a smile, curiosity written all over her face. âCould Elysiaâs friend be as goodâlooking as Holden?â she thought and couldnât help but grin. She had a thing for attractive people.
But when they reached the gazebo and Ava saw the girl waiting there, she was taken aback. She wondered, âWhere is the handsome person Iâve been imagining? Could this really be Elysiaâs friend? Sheâs pretty, sure, but Iâm more into guys.â
Ava was checking out Phoebe, and Phoebe was checking them out, too. Her gaze barely changed when she looked at Elena, but when she saw Ava, her brow furrowed immediately. âWhatâs her problem?â Phoebe thought to herself.
Their eyes locked in a silent showdown, and the air grew tense. Elysia glanced at Ava, then back at Phoebe. âHey, whatâs going on here?â
At her words, both girls snapped back to reality, turning away from each other and avoiding eye contact. Elysia was puzzled, thinking, âHave they met before? It doesnât make sense. Phoebe had never left Silverstream, so how could she have crossed paths with Ava?â
Elysia asked, âHave you two met before?â
Without thinking, they both replied in unison, âNo.â

Noticing Elysiaâs confusion, Phoebe crossed her arms and pouted, âWhy was she looking at me like that? Do I look bad or something?â
423 Ava quickly explained, âNo, no, youâre really beautiful. Itâs just that I thought Elysiaâs friend would be someone as attractive as Holden.â
âSo youâre saying Iâm not goodâlooking enough?â
âNo, thatâs not it. I just... Iâm more into guys,â Ava said, trying to clarify.
Phoebeâs interest was piqued. She pulled Ava into a chair and leaned closer. âI totally get where youâre coming from. I also like attractive people, especially guys. Elysiaâs brothers are all super handsome.â
As Phoebe mentioned the Evans brothers, her smile practically glowed. Ava watched her, thinking sheâd finally met someone who was even more obsessed with goodâlooking guys than she was.
Ava muttered in her mind, âI always thought I was too obsessed with pretty faces, but compared to Elysiaâs friend, Iâm only normal. But Ava didnât want to upset Phoebe, so she nodded in agreement.
Elysia watched the two in front of her. Just a second ago, theyâd looked like they were about to tear each other apart, but now they were chatting like longâlost sisters.
Their mood shift was so fast that it caught Elysia off guard. She hadnât even had time to think of a strategy, and they were already on the same side.
Elysia and Elena sat down on nearby chairs and listened as the two talked about the Evans brothers. The conversation was getting pretty intenseâand definitely not kidâfriendly.
Avaâs cheeks turned a little red. Elysia quickly cut in, âAlright, thatâs enough. If you keep going, the thankâyou gift you want might not happen.â
Phoebeâs smile dropped. She grabbed Elysiaâs arm and pouted, âElysia, you always keep your promises. You wouldnât deny me a thankâyou gift over something so small, would you?â
Phoebe gestured with her fingers, and Elysia gave her a sideways look but didnât reply. Instead, she said, âElena, Ava, this is Phoebe, my childhood friend.â
Phoebe quickly extended her hand with a gentle, innocent smile. But everyone knew it was an act. Her she talked about handsome guys earlier, and that image was still fresh in their minds.
eyes had lit up when After shaking hands, Phoebe leaned against Elysiaâs shoulder and continued in a sweet voice, âElysia, what thankâyou gift did you get for me?â
âI was thinking of lending you my brothers for a day, but after seeing how you acted earlier, Iâm afraid theyâd never come. back.
Letâs drop it,â Elysia said with a smirk.
