Chapter 323
Pampered By Power: The True Heiress Returns
Chapter 323 As soon as Zane returned to his study and was about to sit down, his phone rang Glancing at the name flashing on the screen, he didnât need to think twice to know why Jeremy was calling it was befminely about what had happened that afternoon.
Zane hadnât expected Fabian to act so quickly. In just a short time, word had already reached the Murphy Family With a slight swipe of his finger, Zane answered the call without saying a word jeremyâs voice immediately came through the receiver. âZane, I nearly didnât live to see tomorrow because of you Yes, nearly, right?â Zane replied, his voice as cold and sharp as eVEL.
Jeremy was instantly annoyed. âZane, could you at least show a little sympathy? I got into this mess for your safe, after all âTell Mr. Murphy thereâs no need to worry about the western district property. Iâll take care of Fabian Zane said.
Jeremy was taken aback. âYou already know?â
âBut I didnât say a single word. Does Zane have some kind of mindâreading ability? Jeremy thought You think everyoneâs as stupid as you? Almost anyone could figure this out.â Zane said.
Jeremy felt insulted again. âHey, Iâm actually pretty smart, okay?â
âIf you were, you wouldnât have lost the land.â Zane countered.
âFabian is as sly as a fox. How was I supposed to outmaneuver him? Besides, werenât you the one who told me to use the western district land as bait to lure him out?â Jeremy argued.
His tone carried a hint of grievance, but Zaneâs expression remained unreadable as he responded in a deep voice. I never told you to set up the meeting so far away and then not discuss a single thing related to the land Jeremy, do you even know how to act?â
âAct?â Jeremy raised an eyebrow, clearly not understanding what Zane meant.
Zane elaborated. âIf you had made it look more convincing, Fabian wouldnât have had enough reason to pressure the Murphy Family.
âBesides, the Murphy Family values their reputation above all else. You know exactly what kind of temper your grandfather has.
Fabian played right into that and used it against you.â
Jeremy finally caught on.
He sighed, âZane, you and Fabian are way too calculating. Itâs only natural that I wouldnât think of these things. Compared to you two, Iâm just an innocent little lamb.
âAnd you? Youâre foxed, cunning foxes. A lamb could never outsmart a fox.â
âBut if I heard you right just now, you said youâd handle Fabian, didnât you?â Jeremyâs tone was casual. Even though he already knew the answer, he still wanted to hear Zane confirm it.
âYes, leave it to me,â Zane said.
Jeremy was overjoyed. âNo need for words of gratitude! Next time youâre at my garage, pick any car you like, itâs yours, no questions asked.â
1/3 Chapter 323 âYou really think I need another car? Zane said.
Jeremy thought about it and realized that Zane, of all people, didnât lack money. In fact, Zaneâs garage probably had even more cars than Jeremyâs So, gifting him a car was clearly a deadâend.
âZane, see if thereâs anything else I have that you might need. Feel free to say it,â Jeremy offered.
âIf you could talk less, that would be the greatest gift, Zane replied.
40 Jeremy rolled his eyes. Complaining that I talk too much? Fine, at a time like this, Iâd better not provoke Zane, he wondered.
âAlright, Iâll shut up,â Jeremy said.
âBye.â Zane hung up without hesitation. Jeremy stared at his phone screen as it returned to the home screen.
âWow, he really doesnât waste time, Jeremy grumbled to himself.
Early the next morning, when Elysia opened her door, she found Fabian already standing outside.
âFabian? When did you arrive?â Elysia asked, a hint of joy in her eyes.
âLast night. Alyce told me you were already asleep, so I didnât want to disturb you,â Fabian replied, his tone gentle. âCome on, Iâll drive you back to school.â
âAlright,â Elysia said.
As Elysia followed Fabian out of the door, she saw two cars parked outside. Zane was standing by one of the doors, his posture straight and firm.
Elysia suddenly remembered that Zane had mentioned last night he would take her to school. The situation in front of her felt a bit awkward.
She glanced at Fabian beside her, her gaze shifting to Zane, and she couldnât help but feel that the atmosphere around them had suddenly become much tenser.
Just as Elysia was about to speak to ease the tension, Zaneâs voice cut in. âMr. Evans, had I known you would be the one picking up Elysia, I wouldnât have bothered coming.
âWell, since Iâm here, I have some business Iâd like to discuss with you. After we take Elysia to school, how about we find a quiet place to talk business?â
Fabianâs eyes gleamed with sharpness. âMr. Hartley, why would you think Iâd want to discuss business with you?â
âWeâre both businessmen, after all. Weâre in it for profit. And with your temperament, you wouldnât pass up an opportunity to make money, would you, Mr. Evans?â Zane said.
âZaneâs eyes held a smile, but there was no expression on Fabianâs face. Elysia couldnât shake the feeling that the tension between the two men was thickening by the second.
âFabian, Zane, Iâm going to be late for school,â Elysia said.
Only then did the two men pull back from their fierce stances.
No matter what, Elysia came first.

âIâll take Elysia to school first, and we can discuss this later, Fabian said.
He looked at Elysia, his tone much softer than it had been with Zane. âElysia, get in the car.â
âAlright.â Elysia blinked her large eyes, doing her best to appear as innocent and harmless as possible.
She quickly glanced at Zane but said nothing, merely offering him a brief look.
Just as the two of them were about to close the door of the business car, a hand suddenly stopped it. âMr. Evans, would you mind giving me a ride?â Zane asked.
âI do mind, Fabian replied flatly.
âWell then, Mr. Evans, if you could be patient with me for just a moment, after the business talk, Iâm sure you wonât find me so troublesome,â Zane said.
Before Fabian could respond, Zane climbed into the car and sat in the back seats behind them.
Fabian glanced at Zane through the rearview mirror. Though his face didnât show it, he was extremely displeased.
When we were kids, I never saw him this shameless. Not only is he trying to win over my sister, but now heâs hitching a ride too, Fabian thought.
Joel, also caught off guard by Zaneâs unexpected action, wasnât sure if he was supposed to drive or not.
He cautiously glanced at Fabian. âMr. Evans, should I start driving?â
âYes.â Fabian nodded.
Joelâs tense nerves finally relaxed.
He stepped on the gas, and the car smoothly drove out of Arcanum House. Zaneâs assistant, Barry, was still standing in front of the Maybach, watching the business car drive away while glancing at the car keys in his hand.
Earlier, when Zane handed him the keys, Barry thought he was just preparing to get kicked out. He never expected Zane to actually get a ride.
âMr. Hartley really knows how to work things. Iâm impressed,â Barry thought.
The car pulled up in front of Milton School. Elysia stepped out, looking at Fabian and then at Zane. âOh well, Fabian, Zane, you two talk things over,â she said, offering a slight smile.
