Chapter 7
My Wife Is A Masquerade Master
In Nevilleâs eyes, Madison seemed to be an irremovable irritant, and everything she did was to attract his attention.
It was all because she loved him so humbly that caused Neville to have the illusion that he was indispensable in her life.
Madison took a deep breath, trying to keep her tone calm. âNeville, I was unreasonable, always fixated on things I couldnât have. But now, Iâve come to my senses and just want a divorce, giving you back your freedom,â she said.
Neville seemed to interpret her words as complaints. His thin lips tightened. âMadison, have I been too nice lately, making you forget your place?â
Madison chuckled at his question. âIâm seriously discussing our divorce, and you think Iâm joking with you.â
Neville coldly glanced at her. âYou better put away your coy tricks. Even as a spectator, I find it tiresome Madison felt she and this arrogant man were on completely different wavelengths, unable to communicate. Irritated, she drank a glass of water in one go.
Neville looked at her and reminded her, âI just drank from thatâ¦â
Madison realized she had taken the wrong glass in her anger. âNeville would probably think I was playing another trick to seduce him, she thought.
Indeed, when she looked up, she saw mockery in Nevilleâs eyes.
âMadison, I offered you a name and wealth through our marriage, and you played the role of Mrs.
Preston. It was a transaction where both of us got what we needed. It was a fair trade. So, donât entertain any illusions,â Neville stated coldly.
Madisonâs patience had been worn thin within the confines of the Preston family. She glared at him with anger and retorted, âAnd what exactly do you think I wanted?â
Neville impatiently pulled at his collar and said, âLetting you be my wife is already my greatest concession. Donât harbor any illusions about winning my heart.
Madison almost exploded, but she restrained herself. âMr. Preston, how could you think that way?â
Neville sneered, âBack then, you were willing to marry into the Preston family at any cost, desiring its wealth and glory. Now, you ask for a divorce without wanting anything. Are you trying to make me feel pity for you?â
She didnât want anything for the divorce because she didnât want to disgust herself with what belonged to the Preston family. Besides, she was competent. Why would she need the Preston familyâs charity?
Since Neville misunderstood, Madison had to get something out of it.
Trying to suppress her anger, Madison said, âMr. Preston, I was wrong. I do want something now.â
Nevilleâs eyes showed certainty that he had seen through everything. He was contemplating whether to give Madison a way out as she said, âI want to get back the wedding gift Sapphire gave me Nevilleâs face instantly darkened.
Madison, sensing Nevilleâs reluctance to let go, said softly, âWhen I married into the Preston family, the Guzman family didnât provide me with anything. The wedding was treated as a mockery by the Prestons. They didnât even bother to prepare a gift for me, and I had to hastily make my own wedding dress overnight. The only gift I received was from Sapphire. She selflessly bestowed upon me her entire medicinal field as a wedding giftâ¦â.
Madisonâs voice quivered, overcome by the memories of her pitiful wedding. Everyone had treated her as a joke, with some even betting that she wouldnât last three days in the Preston family.
It was only Sapphire, her foster mother, who had wholeheartedly arranged everything for Madison, going so far as to contribute her sole possession as a wedding gift, hoping it would give Madison some confidence within the Preston family.
However, that medicinal field was a heritage of the Rhodes family for generations, and the Preston family obviously didnât value it. Over the years, the medicinal field had been lying idle.
Since Madison had left the Preston family, she would help Sapphire reclaim the property.
Neville felt a strange discomfort in his chest when he heard the suppressed tone in her throat.
Back then, he had a strong aversion to the wedding and didnât even attend, and he didnât realize that the Guzman family was so harsh to her.
But when he thought she was reluctant to part with the medicinal field, he felt displeased. âDream on!â
he coldly said.
Madison was speechless. The Preston family had no involvement in the herbal business, and the medicinal field was useless to them. Even so, he wouldnât let go.
Forget it. She would figure out another way later.
To avoid seeing him, Madison closed her eyes again.
She was used to her own bed; sleeping in a strange place never settled well with her. But now, feeling drowsy, Madison quickly fell into a deep sleep.
Neville, with a cold face, flipped through the documents. At this moment, a small head leaned on his shoulder.
He pursed his thin lips and covered her with a blanket, allowing her head to rest on his shoulder.
Sheâs such a hypocrite, he thought, asking for a divorce but still seeking comfort by leaning on my shoulder.
After the plane landed, the two walked towards the cabin door, one in front and one behind.
To avoid getting too close to him, Madison intentionally slowed down her pace.
Neville didnât look back, and the two walked as strangers.
Seeing Neville follow the airport staff out of the plane, Madison breathed a sigh of relief. However, Neville suddenly turned around and walked towards her with a cold expression.
Madisonâs nerves tightened. She raised an eyebrow and asked, âMr. Preston, is there anything else you want?â
calling b Neville frowned at her that way. âMadison, Iâll give you another three days to consider.â
Madison thought, âDoes he think there is still room for discussion in our marriage? Isnât the divorce a winâwin situation? He can dump me and marry his sweetheart. But how come he acts like itâs me forcing him to make a decision?â
Madison was about to explode, but facing Nevilleâs powerful aura, she calmly said, âAlright, Iâll consider it in these three days. Please donât disturb me, Mr. Preston.â
Given Nevilleâs methods, if he wanted to find her, it would be effortless. However, she was going abroad this time for business and didnât want this man to spoil her mood.
Nevilleâs eyes darkened a bit as he turned away.
After a while. Ross appeared at the airport. Seeing Madison, he leaned on her, saying, âMadison, Iâve been eagerly awaiting your arrival. Fliwip insists on meeting Elianna Atkins in person.
Elianna was Madisonâs name in the design world. She became the chief designer of Loveille with that title.
The Loveille fashion brand was named after the candy Neville gave her back then.
7 But from now on, she was going to infuse the brand with a new concept.
Not far away. Neville stared coldly at the two figures getting into the car.
Bernard asked nervously, âMr. Preston, should we invite Miss Guzman into the car?â
Neville sneered. âWhat right does she have?â
He wouldnât care about a woman who didnât uphold her dignity.
Bernard instructed the driver to start the car.
After the car drove for a while, Neville suddenly ordered the driver to stop.
Changing seats with the driver, Neville turned the car abruptly, heading straight for the flashy red Ferrari.
A screeching sound was heard.
