Gerard couldn’t help but let out a rueful smile. He had been concerned that Shevchenko would not be k een to invest in the factory’s construction after this incident, but he had not expected it to provoke such

Nathan declared, “She is certainly a paragon of virtue. Yet, she stands with her moral compass, not wit h me. She is a soldier, and her mission is to safeguard the nation!”

Wendy beamed, declaring, “No matter what, she is an admirable person. Even as an adversary, I still h ave respect for her.”

Nathan thought about it and felt that it was indeed not so simple for Jade to improve so quickly despite being so arrogant.

She had her own set of principles and a moral compass in her heart to distinguish between right and wr ong. Her unique charisma was the reason why she had so many people’s backing.

As Jade came to the realization that she had not given Nathan due credit, Nathan too was cognizant th at he had not given Jade her due respect.

They had a mutual understanding.

A few minutes later, Gussie emerged from the bathroom, her makeup freshly reapplied, yet her cheeks still flushed and puffy, giving her a sli ghtly disheveled appearance.

“My sincerest apologies for the delay,” Gussie said, bowing her head in contrition as she adjusted her d emeanor.

“Don’t strain your waist,” Nathan said, reaching out to help her up. “The wound hasn’t healed yet. Why

don’t you go back and put some ice on it? That should help reduce the swelling.”

Gussie gave a gentle sniffle and gratefully declared, “Thank you, Mr. Evans. The pain has subsided an d won’t impede my work”

Nathan couldn’t help but give her a comforting pat on the shoulder and declared, “The heavens have b estowed upon us a great man, one who must endure hardships, toil, and deprivation… Ms. Reagan, yo u are a great individual who will carry a heavy burden in the days to come!”

Gussie was highly entertained by Nathan’s words and couldn’t help but burst into laughter. What on ear th could she be held accountable for? She was so cruelly treated….

“I’m going in first,” Wendy declared, her nose wrinkling at the sour smell in the air. “You can follow, but

don’t be late!”

Having uttered her words, she spun on her heel and departed.

“Don’t be sad,” Nathan said with a smile. “I helped you vent your anger, and if you still haven’t, I’ll go fin d that foreign guy and give him a good beating, his molars will be flying out!”

“You’ve done an incredible job,” Gussie said, lifting her head with a grateful expression and an inexplicable emotion in her eyes. “I never imagined anyone could do this for me.”

Nathan nodded and assured, “You’re most welcome. As your superior, it’s my duty to protect you. I promise it wo again, no need to worry!”

Gussie extended her arms.

“I’m exhausted,” Gussie said, her face flushed and her teeth clenched, “I just want to hug you.”

Gussie and Nathan embraced beneath a tiny newspaper shelter in the downpour that day. It was a mom comfort. What made Gussie feel even more cherished was that this time, Nathan had no weapon pointe Nathan felt that Gussie was still as flexible as ever.

“Let’s hurry up,” said Nathan, “or else Ms. Wendy might get the wrong idea if we stay here too long.”

“It’s really not very proper. You, the secretary, and me, the boss.”

“It’s obvious what will transpire between the secretary and the boss.”

As he spoke, Nathan winked ambiguously.

“Get lost, old pervert!” Gussie only felt that the warmth in her heart had been destroyed by him, and she a bad mood.
