Chapter 358
Wooing My Ex-Wife
Nico lunged forward without thinking about the consequences and held the serum securely in his arms.
He ended up knocking his back on the armrest, rolled around, and crashed onto the ground.
The wounds on his body bled profusely, staining his shirt red. At the same time, his face had turned pale due to the pain, and he coughed out blood on the spot.
However, the Super Antiviral was still held safely in his arms.
When Nico lunged forward, the two troops of soldiers brought by Cedrick noticed that Kylieâs guards were about to shoot him.
Cedrickâs men quickly killed all the guards before they could pull their triggers.
Evidently, the tables had turned, and Charles and Kylie were at a disadvantage because they were all on their own.
Charles couldnât be bothered, nevertheless. He glared at Nico and dashed toward him before sending a powerful kick in his abdomen.
Nico trembled and curled up into a ball. After coughing out another mouthful of blood, he passed out on the spot.
Before Charles could deliver another kick, he was apprehended by the soldiers from Erihal.
The Chanaean soldiers, on the other hand, quickly rushed toward Nico and surrounded him.
Although Nico was unconscious, he was still gripping the serum tightly as if he was determined to prioritize his mission over his own life.
The soldiers from Chanaea were Nicoâs subordinates, so they were all eager to have a go at Charles.
Cedrick calmly ordered his man to bring Nico out of there because there was a miniature emergency room in his private plane.
Seeing that Nico was being brought away along with the Super Antiviral, Charles realized he had lost his last bargaining chip.
He laughed wildly, despite having both his hands in handcuffs. His laughter was so loud that it filled the entire cathedral.
Meanwhile, neither of the troops dared to lay their fingers on Kylie.
Since her movements werenât restricted, she tried her best to pull Charles away from Cedrickâs men.
Obviously, her efforts were futile. She whipped out a dagger and pressed it against her own neck.
While glaring at Cedrick and Gwendolyn, she thundered, âHurting the princess is a heinous crime! If you dare to lay another finger on Charlie, Iâll make sure none of you leave Erihal!â
Cedrick kept mum in response.
Kylieâs threat to commit suicide put both parties in a stalemate.
Needless to say, the cathedral plunged into silence at once.
The situation only changed when Gerhardt arrived with his men, and he told Kylie to stop what she was doing.
âLower your weapon, Kylie! Stop fighting this. Cedrick came with an international arrest warrant and has already gotten a clearance from the king. You canât stop him from bringing Vidar away!â
âWhat?â Kylie was in disbelief, her eyes filled with tears. âHow could this be? They canât take Charlie away! I wonât allow that!â
Gerhardt approached her and took her dagger away.
In desperation, Kylie gripped the hem of his clothes and humbled herself for the first time. âHelp me, Gerhardt! Help Charlie! If they bring Charlie away, theyâll torture him! Help me kill all of them!â
While she was crying and distracted, Gerhardt heaved a sigh and struck the back of her head to knock her out.
Kylie fainted there and then.
Gerhardt carried her in his arms and exited the cathedral without looking back. He didnât even spare Charles a glance as if he no longer cared about Charlesâ survival.
With Kylie gone, so did Charlesâ last chance of surviving.
Cedrickâs expression turned grim when he recalled Charles kicking Nico. âWhat do you have to say for yourself?â
Charles looked devastated when he laughed sadistically and shouted, âYou have everyone helping you! I have nothing left to say!â
Cedrick ordered his men coldly, âPut him in handcuffs and legcuffs. Weâre bringing him back to Chanaea.â
âWait.â Gwendolyn, who had been keeping quiet the entire time, piped up.
Cedrick took off his black coat and put it over her shoulders. In a gentle tone, he asked, âWhatâs the matter, Gwenny?â
Gwendolyn glanced at Charles. âCeddy, what are you going to do to him after this?â
Cedrick answered instantaneously, âIâm sending him to a secret jail to torture him. Heâll live an insufferable life.â
Cedrickâs voice was stern, and his gaze was vicious when he said those words.
Charles laughed even louder upon hearing that. âI told you, Gwen. Cedrick hates me as much as I hate him. Weâll never be able to reconcile.â
Cedrick didnât deny that statement because that was the truth.
While Charles was laughing like a maniac, Gwendolyn uttered, âCeddy, I donât think imprisoning him is a good idea. His existence will cause more issues in the future.â
Cedrick frowned and tried to read Gwendolynâs expression. âWhat do you mean?â
Gwendolyn pursed her lips and smiled. She wrapped her arm around his waist and grabbed his pistol.
âI want to kill him myself!â
âGwennyââ Cedrick shouted but caved in when he met her gaze. âAll right. Go ahead and do whatever you want to do.â
Gwendolyn loaded the pistol, lifted it, and aimed it at Charles.
Seeing that, everyone backed away from Charles at once.
Charles, on the other hand, straightened his body. When he looked at Gwendolyn, a ripple of emotion appeared in his eyes.
He pointed at his heart and said, âGwen, shoot here.â
âOr here,â he added after moving his finger toward his forehead. âCome on, show me your marksmanship one last time.â
Gwendolyn suddenly felt an inexplicable sense of bitterness. âCharles, you taught me how to shoot a decade ago. Did you ever think I would kill you ten years later?â
Charles looked at her affectionately and flashed a faint smile. âIâm incredibly honored to die in your hands. If I were given a chance to do everything all over again, I would still love you as hard as I have for the past ten years. Letâs get on with it.â
Charles stood there without moving a muscle.
Gwendolynâs fingers trembled slightly as she stared at him with teary eyes. Charles wronged everyone but me. However, he has committed such heinous crimes. If he returns to Chanaea, heâll be tortured endlessly, and his life will be a living hell. Ceddy has suffered a lot and escaped death repeatedly because of Charles. I canât possibly ask Ceddy to let Charles go. I should just grant Charles an easy way out to repay him for taking the bullet for me.
With that in mind, Gwendolyn pulled the trigger.
Bang!
A gunshot rang out.
The moment she pulled the trigger, Gwendolyn saw the relieved look in Charlesâ eyes, and she suddenly understood something. I know why Charles hid the Super Antiviral in the church and why he decided to reveal it. If he were to keep it hidden, we wouldnât be able to find it in time, and Ceddy could die. Charles did it to give me his blessing! Charles knew that Ceddy would still go after him even if he were to give the antidote willingly. He provoked Ceddy intentionally so that Ceddy would kill him!
By the time Gwendolyn figured that out, it was too late.
The bullet had already pierced Charlesâ heart, and blood was gushing out, painting his white shirt red.
âG-Gwenâ¦â Charles called out with all the energy he had left.
Before he collapsed to the ground, he saw Gwendolynâs eyes brimming with tears. Well, sheâs feeling sad because of me for once. Perhaps thatâs all I can ask for.
