Chapter 408
Wooing My Ex-Wife
Lorelai burst into tears, not daring to look at the man on the bed.
However, Gwendolyn was pulling her hair, so she couldnât run away even if she wanted to.
Lorelai screamed as pain shot through her knees and scalp.
She was already on the verge of a breakdown.
âI didnât do anything wrong! I was just protecting myself.
This is all your fault, Gwendolyn! Youâre the one who caused all of this! Marcus deserved this! If he didnât insist on passing the right of inheritance to you and driving me into a corner, I wouldnât have given in to Evelynâs manipulation!â She had never gotten along with Gwendolyn.
Besides, the latter had once said she would chase Lorelai out of the Harris family the moment she got the inheritance rights.
Lorelai wouldnât have been able to live a peaceful life if that were to happen.
She had been spoiled and pampered in the Harris family for so many years.
Getting kicked out would have been the same as getting sentenced to death.
She didnât have any survival skills, which meant it was impossible for her to live the same way.
However, things would be different if Evelyn had gotten the inheritance rights.
She could even become the lady of the household in the future.
I did nothing wrong.
I was just trying to survive, thatâs all.
Gwendolyn was somewhat shocked to hear that.
She didnât expect Lorelai to not have an ounce of regret.
Fury burned within her, and Gwendolyn slapped Lorelai across her face.
Then, she pressed the latterâs head on the bed and forced her to look at Marcus.
âWhat did Dad do wrong? You were the one who schemed to sleep with him because you were after his money! You were also the one who forced Dad to take responsibility.
Has Dad ill-treated you in any way all these years? His feelings for you were true.
He once told me that after his death, I should provide you with a mansion and transfer five percent of Harris Groupâs shares to you so you could get the sharesâ dividends and continue living a carefree life.
Dad even told me to let you be if you ever thought about getting remarried! But what about you? This is how you repay him?â Lorelaiâs eyes widened as she stared at her unconscious husband.
âHow is this possible? H-Heâs already planned for my future?â Gwendolyn gave her a mocking look.
âLorelai, you must know that Iâm a vengeful person, and Iâd return the favor tenfold if anyone dared to offend me.
Even though I bicker with you all these years, Iâve never done anything to actually harm you.
Itâs all because Dad couldnât let go of his feelings for you!â âI⦠Iâ¦â Lorelai was shaking all over and couldnât get anything out of her mouth.
She had never loved Marcus and had only gotten married to him because she wanted to enjoy living the life of a rich lady in a wealthy household.
Lorelai assumed that Marcus was the same, that he viewed her as just a breath of fresh air because she was young.
Who would have thought Marcus actually loved her? He had even made preparations for her future so she could live the rest of her life comfortably.
Lorelai cried her heart out, seemingly overwhelmed by her guilt.
Gwendolyn glanced coldly at her.
Her voice was indifferent as she said, âYouâre idiotic and cruel.
Dad was the only one who could protect you in the Harris family.
You harmed him, and you know so many of Evelynâs secrets.
With her personality, sheâll definitely think of a way to get rid of you once everything settles down.
She dared to try and get me killed multiple times even though Iâm her half-sister.
That just shows how ruthless she is.
You, on the other hand, have nothing to do with her.
What makes you think sheâll actually protect you?â Upon hearing that, Lorelai held her breath and stopped crying.
She finally had a grasp of the situation.
I was wrong! Iâve made a horrible, horrible mistake! She got onto her knees and grabbed Gwendolynâs gown as she apologized sincerely, âIâm sorry, Gwendolyn.
I was wrong! I know how stupid it was of me now.
Please just give me another chance, all right?â Gwendolyn kicked her away and looked down at her contemptuously.
Her eyes were cold and emotionless.
âDo you think Dad would wake up just because I gave you another chance? Because of you, he ended up in a vegetative state and can never wake up anymore.
He doesnât have another chance in life now, so what gives you the right to beg me for forgiveness?â
Lorelai was tongue-tied for her question.
She was beside herself with regret and cried in despair.
Gwendolynâs face was cold as she continued, âYou have dug your own grave, Lorelai.
Get ready to spend the rest of your life in prison while you drown in your regrets!â She was brutal with her words.
Once she finished speaking, Gwendolyn sent a text to Nico, who was waiting outside the villa.
Soon, Nico and William came in and dragged Lorelai out, who was still wallowing in despair.
âHow do you plan to deal with her, Gwendolyn?â Nico asked.
Gwendolyn turned to look at the motionless Marcus on the bed and heaved a sigh.
âCharge her for attempted murder and send her to prison.
I want her to atone for her sins in there for the rest of her life, and I donât want to see her ever again.
Also, make sure you get her to sign a divorce agreement before sending her in.
â âOkay.
â With that, Lorelai was dragged out by Nico and William.
Gwendolyn took a deep breath.
She took a few steps forward but suddenly felt light-headed and fell to her side helplessly.
Instead of crashing into the ground, she landed in a warm embrace.
Cedrickâs heart ached for her.
âGwenny, your progesterone levels are already too high before this.
The doctor said you shouldnât be experiencing any extreme emotions.
Even if itâs not for the babies, you should still keep your emotions in check.
â Gwendolyn nodded weakly, too tired to talk anymore.
Cedrick picked her up bridal-style and tried to come up with a plan for her.
âMost of the things with the Harris family are dealt with already.
All thatâs left is Evelyn.
Why donât you let me handle her?â Gwendolyn shook her head to decline.
âSheâs the cause of everything.
Let me deal with her myself.
â âThen, let me hold you while you do that.
Just instruct Nico about whatever you plan to do.
What do you think?â âSure.
â Nico was an expert at beating someone up.
Most importantly, he was accurate and ruthless.
Naturally, they needed to put him to use.
Cedrick kissed her on her forehead gently and carried her downstairs.
Treyton had ordered someone to press Evelyn onto the ground in the living room.
The atmosphere in the room was tense, and Treyton and Kieran said nothing as they sat on the couch.
Cedrick stared straight ahead as he walked over with Gwendolyn in his arms.
He took a seat on the couch in the middle, then allowed the woman to sit on his legs and burrow into his chest.
Gwendolyn played with his tie lazily and directed her words at Evelyn when she spoke.
âI already know everything now.
What else do you have to say?â Even though Evelyn was on her knees, she still managed to keep her back straight.
She had a smile on her face and seemed unfazed about the situation.
âWell, I lost.
I have nothing to say.
Do whatever you want.
â Gwendolynâs lips curled into a smirk.
She sounded cruel as she said, âAll right.
Donât go back on your words.
Since you bear the Harris surname, weâll make sure you get punished the Harris way.
â Cedrick understood what she meant and immediately gave Nico a look.
Nico turned and went into the garden.
When he came back in, he had a few thin branches in his hands.
âGive her fifty strikes first.
Weâll start questioning her after that,â Gwendolyn said coldly.
âYes.
â Nico put the branches on the coffee table, picked one from the pile, and began hitting Evelyn.
Sharp sounds resonated in the air continuously, and the atmosphere in the once-silent living room became even more tense.
Nico exerted the same amount of force with each strike.
He was equally ruthless each time and didnât show any mercy just because Evelyn was a woman.
It looked as though he was an emotionless machine made to punish people.
He would change the branch each time it broke and continued to cane her.
Evelyn was wearing a strapless dress that exposed her back.
Her skin was tender, and excruciating pain stung her each time she was hit.
Her arms and back were soon covered in red lines, and some parts of her were bleeding because her skin had been cut open.
Evelyn was still kneeling on the floor as she endured the first few strikes, but she soon succumbed to Nicoâs ruthlessness and lay on the floor due to the uncontrollable pain.
She curled into a ball and used her arms to protect her head.
Gwendolyn watched from afar.
Evelyn was one tough cookie for she was shaking from the pain but she did not cry nor beg.
âNico, your skills seem to have deteriorated already.
Why donât I hear her cry? Are you being lenient to her?â Gwendolyn asked with a raised brow and cold smile.
