Chapter 440
Wooing My Ex-Wife
Percyâs expression froze, and he explained in a panic, âNo way! You and I are engaged. Why would I do something as unnecessary as that? Besides, the red wineâs prepared by the restaurant.â
Inez narrowed her eyes. âIt better be.â
She twirled the glass and was about to drink it when the door to the private room suddenly opened.
A warm, large hand snatched her wineglass away.
Perplexed, Inez raised her head and saw Kieran. âWhat are you doing here?â
Kieran placed the wineglass below his nose and sniffed while glancing at Percy.
Percy gulped and tried to act tough. âWho are you? Youâve barged into my private room! Please leave!â
He stood up and tried to snatch the glass from Kieran.
Kieran stepped back and coldly splashed the wine on Percyâs face without saying a word.
Percy ceased his movements. He pursed his lips as drops of red wine steamed down.
Upon registering what he had just done, he immediately spat the wine out and wiped his lips clean.
Inez rested her chin on one hand while holding back her laughter, staring at the two men as though she had nothing to do with what was going on.
Kieran was usually composed, but, at that moment, he was furious.
He hurled the wineglass at the wall, smashing it into pieces. âYouâre an animal! How dare you try to drug your fiancée!â
Percy was dumbfounded for a few seconds.
As he was shorter than Kieran, he had to lift his head to meet the latterâs eyes. He wiped his glasses clean and roared, âDo you have any proof to support your accusation? I can sue you for slander! Also, this is my territory! Iâm going to make you apologize to me and have the security guards throw you out!â
After he put his glasses back on, he called the manager on the phone.
âItâs Percy! Someoneâs causing trouble in my private room! Please bring security guards over, or Iâll file a complaint about you all!â Once he ended the call, he looked at Kieran arrogantly. âDonât think youâre hot stuff just because youâre handsome, punk. Since youâre a friend of Inez, Iâll request only an apology from you. I wonât even ask you to compensate for the smashed wineglass.â
Inez, who was sitting silently at the side, covered her mouth to hold back her laughter. Iâve known Kieran for over a year, and Iâve never seen anyone successfully make him apologize.
Casually, she tossed two peanuts into her mouth. Hmm, this goes well with watching a show.
Kieran glanced at her before hissing frigidly at Percy again, âYou have some nerve to act arrogantly even though you donât know who I am. When the manager arrives, youâre the one getting kicked out.â
Once again, Percy was stunned. Kieran was poised and possessed an intimidating, icy aura. He isnât a distinguished figure, is he?
Slightly afraid, he turned to Inez, who was still eating peanuts. âWho is he, Inez?â
After contemplating her answer briefly, she answered casually, âA doctor.â
âIs he really just a doctor?â
âMm-hmm.â
Percy arched a brow and asked, âWhatâs your relationship with him? Are you close to him?â
Inez paused.
Kieran also waited for her answer quietly.
As the men gazed at her, Inez spat coldly, âNot really. I met him a few times before, but thatâs about it.â
When Kieran heard that, his heart immediately sank, and his chest throbbed with pain.
Percy turned to Kieran and said arrogantly, âSo, youâre just framing me on purpose, huh? I was going to let this slide because of Inez, but looks like I donât need to because you asked for it! A man like you deserves to spend a few days in jail!â
Just as he ended his sentence, the manager hastily stepped into the private room with four security guards.
Pointing at Kieran, Percy ordered, âHeâs the one who barged into my room for no reason and broke a wine glass! He even accused me of drugging the wine! Call the police right now and throw him out!â
However, the manager ignored him and bowed to Kieran. âWhatâs going on, Mr. Kieran?â
âMr. Kieran? From which family?â Percy asked somewhat timidly.
âDo you know another Mr. Kieran? Heâs the second son of the Harris family in Salinsburgh!â The manager glared at Percy. âYou may not know about this, but the biggest shareholder of Yucca Delight is Mr. Asher, Mr. Kieranâs elder brother! How dare you try to chase Mr. Kieran away in the Harris familyâs territory!â
Percy looked at Kieran and then at Inez, unable to utter another word due to shock.
A few seconds of silence ensued before Kieran ordered, âThrow him out. He drugged the wine, so I want him handed over to the police. And donât allow him to dine in this restaurant again.â
âWill do, Mr. Kieran!â the manager replied.
It took a while before Percy realized he had offended an influential figure.
âPlease forgive me, Mr. Kieran! I was wrong! I shouldâve recognized who you are! I didnât drug the wine!
Please donât send me to jail and hold a grudge against Campbell Corporation!â he begged, approaching Kieran with tears.
Frowning with disdain, Kieran kicked Percy away. âTake him away now!â
âUnderstood!â The security guards promptly covered Percyâs mouth, muffling his crying voice.
Then, all four of the guards dragged Percy out of the room.
It wasnât until his obnoxious voice disappeared that the manager apologized to Kieran. âIâm sorry, Mr.
Kieran. I didnât expect Mr. Campbell to be someone like that. Weâll better screen our customers next time before allowing them to dine in our restaurant.â
Kieran nodded.
âSince the roomâs dirty and the food has been eaten, should I arrange a better private room for you and Ms. Inez?â the manager continued.
Just as Kieran was about to speak, Inez went first. âItâs fine. Iâm almost full.â
âIn that case, Iâll take my leave now. If you need anything, call me.â With an ingratiating smile, the manager left the room expeditiously and shut the door tight.
Following the managerâs departure, silence returned to the confined space.
Kieran sat next to Inezâs left, a spot not taken by Percy earlier.
As he watched her eat peanuts, he asked, âAre you satisfied with a fiancé like Percy?â
âWhat do you think?â answered Inez with a question.
Kieran sat properly while staring at her face. âYouâre dissatisfied with him. Otherwise, you wouldnât have kept quiet and watched him get taken away.â
With a touch of bitterness in her eyes, Inez scoffed, âMy dad wants me to marry someone who can lift Mossey Corporation to greater heights. I have no choice in the matter.â She picked up an empty wineglass and filled it with red wine. âEveryone in Fairlake knows I left this place in the past to pursue a man. Who else can I marry but Percy? Itâs not like youâre going to marry me. Why do you care so much?â
Dejectedly, she raised the glass and prepared to empty it.
However, Kieran snatched it away again.
