Chapter 446
Wooing My Ex-Wife
The slap was not too hard, and it carried with it a hint of affection.
Gwendolynâs eyes crinkled as she looked at him. âExcuse me? Just exactly whoâs the one getting tortured? Didnât you promise me four hundred and fifty-nine push-ups? Are you going to go back on your word?â She smacked his butt again. âCome on. You made a promise.â
Cedrick got into the perfect push-up form again by straightening his tired and trembling arms.
âThree hundred and fifty-seven. Carry on.â Gwendolynâs voice sounded behind him.
Realization finally dawned on Cedrick. She knew the number all along and was playing with me on purpose. Hmph! What a bad woman.
He shook his head helplessly. Well, thereâs nothing I can do about it. Sheâs the wife I put so much effort into getting back. Iâve got to dote on her no matter what.
âThree hundred and fifty-eight.â
That morning, the sound of Cedrick counting the number of push-ups came from the room.
Zoey would occasionally cast the tightly shut door a suspicious glance whenever she passed it by.
Nonetheless, she knew it was inappropriate to ask about the coupleâs private matters.
Over in the bedroom, Cedrick could be heard forcing the words out breathlessly. âFour hundred⦠and fifty-nineâ¦â
As if he had accomplished a mission, Cedrick let out a sigh and slumped weakly to the ground.
I donât want to do push-ups again for the rest of my life.
Gwendolyn got up and spotted a darker patch on his black pants.
She chuckled in amusement. âCeddy, you mustâve sweated a lot. Even your buttâs wet.â
Cedrick touched the wet spot, only to see a red stain on his fingers.
He turned around in bewilderment and noticed Gwendolynâs pale complexion.
âGwenny, itâs your b-bloodâ¦â
The smile on Gwendolynâs face vanished as she stared at his fingers unblinkingly. She rubbed her belly and quickly realized something.
No wonder my waist felt so sore. Itâs the periodâs fault.
She had not had her period ever since she became pregnant, so much so that she had forgotten the existence of periods.
An embarrassed laugh escaped her throat. âSorry for dirtying your pants, Ceddy. But it looks like you wonât be able to have fun for another six days or so. You should accept your fate.â
Cedrick had no intentions of complaining. He got to his feet despite feeling drained from the push-ups and carried her to the bathroom. They showered together and changed into a clean set of pajamas.
Five minutes later, Gwendolynâs belly was beginning to ache.
When did it come? Would the sex have any effect on it?
The period pain awakened every nerve in her body.
Cedrick helped her to the bed and tucked her in.
Soon, pain and drowsiness got the better of her.
She curled up into a ball, her brows furrowed and her eyes shut tightly as she endured the discomfort that made her dizzy.
Cedrick had made her a cup of chamomile tea. He blew on it and brought the cup to her lips.
Still, the pain was not relieved.
Cedrick sat by the bed, feeling anxious and helpless at the same time. If only I could help her bear the pain.
âGwenny, why donât you take some painkillers?â
Despite feeling dizzy, Gwendolyn shook her head without hesitation upon hearing his suggestion. âIâm still breastfeeding. The babies need me. I canât simply take medicines or itâll affect them.â
âBut you canât keep enduring it like that.â
Gwendolyn responded weakly, âItâs okay. Iâll only have to bear with it for a while. Iâll be fine after a napâ¦â
Cedrick let out a sigh. He could not bear to see her suffer, but there was nothing he could do when she insisted on not taking painkillers.
He looked up on the internet for solutions. After reading the suggestions given by the netizens, he quickly brought her a warm water bottle.
He gently massaged her belly while warming it with the warm water bottle. He never stopped, even when his fingers were tired.
The pain made Gwendolyn extremely dizzy, but through her half-closed eyelids, she could see him using different hands to massage her belly. Whenever a hand was tired, he would switch it with the other and relax the sore wrist before continuing the same process.
Cedrick was obviously exhausted, and Gwendolyn felt bad about it. âCeddy, you can stop massaging.
Iâll be fine after getting some sleep.â
However, Cedrick did not stop. âItâs okay. You can sleep while I massage your belly.â
Okay, then.
Gwendolyn was too tired to convince him otherwise. Her eyes could barely open.
Cedrick was getting better at it. In fact, she felt that her pain seemed to have been alleviated. She soon drifted off to sleep.
Cedrick, on the other hand, did not stop there. He crawled under the covers beside her and massaged her sore waist.
It was not long before he, too, fell asleep.
Occasionally, Gwendolyn would move in her sleep, but it did not wake Cedrick. Still, his hands did not stop.
Just like that, the two slept until noon.
In Fairlake, Inez had been avoiding Kieran ever since he interrupted her last date.
Even though the two lived under the same roof, they woke up and left the house at different times.
They never met each other, not once.
Madelyn, who was watching the scene, could not help feeling anxious. However, she did not dare to take action because of Kieranâs identity. She did not dare to mess with him.
After lunch, Kieran finally returned to the hotel to take his phone and wallet.
As soon as he turned on his phone, messages flooded in.
They were all from Treyton. Kieran read them according to the timestamp.
Treyton: Kieran, how did it go? Did you manage to get in?
Treyton: Where are you? Why arenât you answering your phone? Donât tell me you left it behind for real.
Treyton: Youâre supposed to pretend! PRETEND! You could have just said you left your phone and wallet behind even if you had them. Whoâd dare to pat you down? Oh my goodness. You canât really be so dense, can you?
Treyton: Whatâs your progress, Kieran? Have you won her over yet?
Treyton: Iâd be lost for words if you couldnât even win her over after pulling all that. Maybe you should just become a monk, or you can give your whole life to the medical research center.
Kieran could sense his brotherâs sarcasm as he reached the end of the messages.
With a cold look, he typed a few words and hit the send button.
It read: Are you asking for a beating? Iâll give it to you when I go back.
Surprisingly, Treyton responded instantly: Sorry, Kieran.
The sincere apology made Kieran feel much better. I shall spare his legs for now. I still need his advice on how to pursue Inez.
Kieran recalled the incident that happened at the restaurant two days ago and briefly recounted it to Treyton.
Treyton gasped when he finished reading the text. He typed: You could still handle that even after getting drugged? Thatâs impressive. Is there something wrong with you? Letâs get you examined when you get back.
Kieranâs expression darkened instantly when he read the text.
Sensing his brotherâs anger through the phone, Treyton quickly typed: Hehe. My brotherâs a real gentleman.
Alas, that did not make Kieran feel any better. The fact that he got drugged was not the point. The point was that Inez had been ignoring him, and he had no solutions.
After a short discussion, Treyton had an idea. He texted: Kieran, since Ms. Inez is ignoring you, perhaps you should approach this matter through another person.
Kieran: Who?
Treyton: Percy Campbell.
The two words on the screen stunned Kieran, and he hurriedly hit the call button to hear Treyton out.
It took five minutes for Kieran to listen to Treytonâs plan, and he was confident with it.
He picked up his phone and wallet and headed straight for the Mossey residence to carry out the plan.
